Indeed there is a "contextual" difference between Tattoos and Tribal marks/scarifications.. But in actual sense of what they both are, they are simply body arts.

The verse in the book of Leviticus which speaks towards tattoos was not specific in its context, but when you read the entire book of Leviticus, you get to understand what the whole book was all about

Below are the 76 rules and their punishments/atonement in the book of Leviticus...
