Niger Delta Governors Want Corruption Charges Dropped Across The Region by ganisucks(f): 9:08pm On Jun 07, 2016
Governors of the South-South region who met
with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the State
House today called for a majority of the corruption
cases in the region to be dropped by the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC), SaharaReporters has learned.
The meeting was attended by Governors of Edo,
Ondo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abia, as
well as the Deputy Governor of Cross River.
Our source, who was at the meeting, said that
only the Governor of Edo State, Adams
Oshiomhole and the deputy Governor of Cross
River opposed the others, who singled out the
federal government’s anti-corruption initiative as
the reason why Niger Delta Avengers are blowing
up pipelines in the region.
Speaking one after the other, the governors
reportedly asked the Federal government to drop
charges against former militants accused of
corruption. They also want the EFCC to stop
investigating the campaign fund scam which has
so far revealed how former President Goodluck
Jonathan shared funds meant that were meant
for combating Boko Haram among his People’s
Democratic Party functionaries.
Our correspondents also learned that the Minister
of State for Petroleum Resources Dr. Ibe
Kachikwu, was curiously on the side of the South-
South governors who want corruption charges
and all forms of corruption investigations against
the Niger Delta politicians discontinued.
The Governor of Delta, Patrick Okota, reportedly
obtained a two-week ceasefire from the Niger
Delta Avengers before arriving at the meeting but
did not disclose it because he was uncomfortable
that the Vice President wasn’t disposed to the
idea. SaharaReporters learnt that through his
Deputy, Mr. Okowa had extensive meetings with
the Niger Delta Avengers, pointing out that it was
evident that he and other South South governors
knew who the militants were as he spoke at the
meeting.
The source further stated that if the terms
pushed by the South South Governors are fully
adopted by the Buhari regime, his anti-corruption
fight will die prematurely in all of the South South
states. He said that from the tone of the meeting,
it was clear that the Niger Delta Avengers and
their activities are being funded by politicians in
the region with the objective of halting Buhari’s
anti-corruption war.
A press statement issued at the end of the
meeting by the Vice-President’s office indicated
that the federal government was represented at
the meeting by the Minister of Defense, Rtd. Major
General Mohammed Dan Ali; Niger Delta Affairs
Minister, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani; and Dr.
Kachikwu.
Also in attendance were military service chiefs,
led by the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt.Gen. Gabriel
Olonisakin

shocked I have said it repeatedly that the ipob and Niger delta Avengers are a creation of those who are seriously angry that we Nigerians voted out Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
No right thinking patriotic Nigerian will want that status quo under GEJ to remain. I just pity those young men and women dying in the name of ipob and Avengers!!!

I said it but political novices whose stock in trade is only distributing insults around here like birthday biscuits took it out on me!!

Here's what I wrote coupla days ago regarding the renewed violence in the region when the story headline read "Jonathan is crucial to resolving the renewed ND militancy":

omenka:
Until we move away from oil, crooks would always use our dependence on it as leverage/tool to blackmail us into doing their bidding. An "ex-militant" once told the world that a meeting was held at the instance of Jonathan and a decision was taken as per what course of action to take in an even he loses at the polls. He lost and they initiated their plans.

If this report is anything to go by, the thief would definitely come with his demands which is likely to include letting Okpolo Eyes, Madam Headress, Dasuki, and FFK off the hook. The shitstorm that would come from taking such a decision would be one heavier than the presidency can handle.

This is just too darn bad.
I still insist, until we wean ourselves off oil, the fight against corruption would forever remain one helluva herculean, perhaps impossible, task to accomplish.

Smh.

Are these governors the mouthpiece of those (militants) who promise to send missile(s) to Aso Rock, National Assembly, Police Headquarters and some other government buildings?

If the whole country will burn, they can go ahead and set fire to it but the government will be crazy to fall into PDP and their disgruntled elements booby trap...

The powerful militant is Tompolo. The governors are low key hating on Bubu like their online crazies and some of them are in their positions because of Tompolo.

Tompolo installed both Okowa and Dickson, his cousin is the deputy governor of Delta, James Manager is in the Senate on his goodwill.... Tompolo has been made a government by the newly crowned colossal failure (copyright MEND June 2016)...

If this government should cave in to this blackmail then they can as well handover to IB and his band of bandits.

Unless Buhari makes peace with Tompolo,he should forget about achieving anything meaninful in d next 3 years. This is not a matter of staying online to rant on your phone.

About the state of emergency,Buhari cannot do that without 2/3 of the senate which he obviously can't get

By making peace you mean he should continue to perform the job Navy perform in sane countries? IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!!!

If I'm ranting on my phone, you are definitely hallucinating on yours!!!

2/3 of senate won't be needed when it becomes a matter of National Security... I won't spend time debating with you cos I've seen that you lots whose existence, self esteem and worth were all eroded since 1st of April 2015, are not capable of being realistic or rational!!!

This is a lie from the pit of hell! angry

Nothing of the sort ever happened.

Governors, who should be upholders of truth and justice will never make such preposterous demands.

Like, tf!!

It's funny how people who should have known better are arguing the toss, for what exactly? This must be a case of any port in a storm.

How these mediocre people ended up becoming "leaders" is a mystery. Makes one wonder the wanton corruption that must have been swept away in their various states.

It beats me how common sense eludes people with wealth and experience.

Defender of all evil and despicable act, wake up and smell the coffee, declaring a state of emergency in the SS region will be supported by all Polithievecians in power if it guarantees continual flow of funds...or you want them to have nothing to loot? That would also ensure that your unpaid job of defending thieves continue. So there's something in it for you.
