Beloved nairalanders kindly help a brother with clarification on this. I intend applying to a university in Germany and they stated on their website to fill the application form online get it printed out and signed and send the certified documents to me( certification from the embassy) with other corresponding degree certificates and transcripts that I've acquired and send to them. I've heard of authentication at the ministry of education and legalisation at the foreign affairs ministry. I want know if its a protocol to observe that I will take my documents to the min of education for authentication thereafter to the ministry of foreign affairs before the embassy or I can take them directly to the embassy for certification or how is it done properly. pls this is urgent I intend setting out by Monday for these activities here in Abuja. Thanks all |

Just came to peep at this thread as it helped me alot when I was planning to come to the UK. Now im almost done with my studies and on my way home in about a month. The exchange rate has not been helpful but one of the best things I did was paying my rent (private accomo) 6 months ahead using form A. If you have a helpful account officer then whether private or school owned your accomodation while you are in school falls under form A. My gtb people refused to help so I transfered my funds to Fidelity and they did it for me. My case is unique as I am here with young children but once you are steadfast God will make a way. It took me a while to get a job as I was being picky (beacuse of child care I wanted a job I could do from home)...eventually I got one through the university that allows me work from my laptop...(an IT company so alot of things they do are done remotely). I have been very fortunate as I found someone through a friend who helped me househunt before I came to Exeter and I paid before I even got here...fortunate cus UI dont adbvise people to pay for what they have not seen but I thank God the person who helped was very picky and I got a lovely place. I live in a very white town but its been cool so far and no regrets. All the best for those making plans 2 Likes |

thababe: at the bolded will be very useful for students coming to UK this September. Students coming over should try and talk to your account officer, try and talk to as many banks as possible. Lastly, anything is possible for anyone who tries. cc: fizzle and others coming over. |

fizzile: according to the poster @thababe she claimed it was possible to actually use Form A to pay for private accommodation provided you have an account officer that is understanding. She suggested the idea due to the increasing forex so as to save cost for students. The advantages are (1) You can pay using form A for about 6 months provided your bank is wiling to help out (thababe did it according to her) (2) Official CBN rate (3) since you are paying for private accommodation, you are not really bound to any contract like school accommodation The downside (i) You need some one you really trust in UK to check the room for you (2) It is a dangerous means cos you could be swindled. I have always suggested for students to make sure they see rooms physically before paying (except school accommodation) any cash for private rooms (means they have to get to Uk first before paying), but because of this fluctuating forex, students should try and look for the best way to minimise cost. Hence, they can try out thababe's option. 1 Like |

OlowoB:Yeah that's so right. I will make a few consultations to see if its gonna be possible. But basically,is it possible for someone in the UK who still operates a Naira account, give out some pounds in exchange for some Naira at a cheaper rate outside the blackmarket rate? |

Sparkles07: Which Course are you going for in Kent? I have an offer from Kent, also from University of Birmingham, Leeds and Bath for Marketing related courses but yet to make up my mind on which to accept. |
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 3 by OlowoB(m): 8:39am On Jun 07, 2016 |
fizzile: Lol you are funny o, almost everyone in UK will be holding the pounds close to them. It will take a miracle for you to get the kind of offer you are looking for (anything is possible though). Even if you get cheaper, the difference may just be about 5 naira (I pray you get though cos it will make life easier for you) As for me, I can't even give anyone pounds for now, cos as at today transfer boss rate is 491 naira to a pound. I will be coming yo Naija in August and I am even thinking of bypassing these transfer guys here in uk and directly change my pounds to naira when I get down at Muritala so as to get a higher exchange rate |

OlowoB:Hahahahahaah...see sense...lololzzz..na una wey dey there go gain cos changing with these blackmarketers here will give you more yield. Why not sell some to me....winkzzz.. Meehhnnn its really difficult these days ooo.. uptil now my Form A hasn't been processed. The CBN still hasn't allocated forex for this month. Probably they are trying to finalize modalities on the flexible forex market. |

OlowoB: Brother when next you are changing money from pounds to naira in the uk my advice is that you should try azimo website. you'll get a good rate without paying any commission. just my 2cents (although your 'transfer boss' rate myt look higher' but when you do ur calculations considering the commission trust me u'll be able to decide for urself) |
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 3 by creamyworkz: 9:13pm On Jun 07, 2016 |
fizzile: Brother don't stress yourself your form A transaction will get to the school, its still your best bet no matter how long it takes. if i were you i'll be working on making arrangements to find banks that can do moneygram transfer and getting about 3people who can help you do the transfer in succession each month. (i know you'll want to work on getting here asap bt my brother my candid advice, forget about work totally until after ur first semester) all the best bro |

Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 3 by OlowoB(m): 1:26am On Jun 08, 2016 |
creamyworkz: Big brethren, I know azimo well, infact I am registered on the app. I have used them close to 7 times now in transferring money but I can tell you, there are better rates out there. As at this moment of typing, azimo's rate is 1 naira = £475.2 at 0 fee. While transferboss is 1 naira = 495 at a fee of about £15 for £500. You will agree with me that there is no way azimo's rate is better from the above explanation. And of course, the higher the money, the higher the difference. Also note that as at January, February this year, azimo was charging about £2.99 for every transaction ( I still used them this year), they only just stopped charging when they discovered there were far better rates from their competitors. The only thing I like about azimo is the safety and the money back guarantee they have. Asides that, there are better rates from other companies out there. Cheers. |

^^^^^^ I was just introduced to the transfer boss just this year. Though i still prefer azimo cos i have this peace of mind anytime i am using them. I feel their registration process (registering with your International passport) is very safe. Just cos of the extra cash i can get, thats why i am using transfer boss now. |
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 3 by creamyworkz: 1:43am On Jun 08, 2016 |
fizzile: Yea, for your maintainance fees. with the rate at which things are going the exchange rate keeps getting worse everyday the naira seems not to be showing any signs of coming back to wah we used to know. when i was about to leave i never imagined i would have to change 1pound for as high as 490naira. my max budget was 360-380naira. so i believe if you begin familiarizing urself with ur account officers and get to open accounts with the right banks you might save a few pounds |

Good morning. I'm in a giving back mood today. This forum has helped in my journeys to study abroad. Thank you, Nairaland. Tips for those coming to UK and intending to work part time, you must do the following: 1. Call the National insurance service and request NI application forms , fill said forms and get them back to NI ASAP. They might call you and ask why you need it. Keep it simple and straight. Without NI number, getting a job is nigh impossible, as employers need that number to deduct income tax and national insurance contributions. You don't pay income tax for your first £11,000, though. 2. Get a bank acc with Lloyds or Barclays. Their requirements are less stringent and they're international students friendly. To do so visit the website of the bank you desire and fill the form for opening a classic acc, then visit the bank the next day with your identity docs, including Uni introduction, and proof of address. Without NI number and bank acc, you can't get a job. I hope this helps someone. Shalom. 1 Like 1 Share |

^^^^ Spot on. Infact, the NI nos (the letter with the number) is also important as it can be used as proof of adress for opening bank account. On the other hand, since this is "the giving mood" according to the poster above, let me add this; If you are a guy (or you are a gal and don't mind doing security jobs) coming to the UK, please try and get a police character certificate (PCC) when coming along. This certificate will help you in easily applying for your SIA badge here in UK (security license). I think the PCC can be obtained at Police Headquarters, Obalende. I would not say more than this for now so as not to change the topic of discuss. 1 Like 2 Shares |
