I had nothing like monthly stipend from nowhere
struggled on my own and relied on gifts dat came in once in a while from relations till i graduated
the hustle continued and i was able to see my sef tru M.Sc.
Got a job on merit and now earn 6 digits
Currently a landlord @ 28 and the dream is to be naija's president some day.
People see me today and think i'm from a rich home, but the truth is i lost my old man wen i was 10 and d guy no even get one piece of land anywhere. . . That was all the inspiration i needed.

40k-60k was my pocket back in my University days and funny enough it still wasn't enough cos I attended Igbinedion University, Okada and things were damn expensive there.

As for me oooo........when I was in school then 20k for each semester plus brothers and sisters support in my 100level but fro. 200level I was on schorlarship till 500level but still collecting my 20k every semester

i graduated last year. however i was receiving 3k per week from my mother from my first year to third year. then from my fouth year to final year it was 4k per week.

I send my younger brother 7k-10k every month. He even notifies me when every month ends.
Thank God he's in his final year now.


Privilege I never had while I was an undergraduate

25-30k per month from part 1-4 then,

35-50 per month in part 5 (project things)

Nice thread. Does this mean if I decide to send a female student 20k every month,it would be fair? Considering most people receive 2k,3k,5k and so on.

In my 100l and 200l days, it was "ask and you shall receive" (Those were the good days of President Jonathan).

In 300l it became 5k per month. As at that time, I began to despise the idea of asking my parents for 5k allowance. So I won't ask until they send. And if they don't, I would suffer it. No wahala.

After my IT, (currently in 500l), I have been living like a graduate, I don't call my parents for anything, I paid my rents, and footing the bill for my final year project. I must say that it feels really good to have this sense of independence. I haven't been home since I left in February, and my parents would often call to ask why I am not asking for money...

During those conversation, I would be tempted to say "Mummy, I currently earn more than you on monthly basis" (she works in Osun and when they're lucky, they get paid half of their salary, which is about 75k or there about)... And with God blessings, I currently make about 60k per month, passively.


Moral: Develop a sense of independence as soon as you can, and stop asking your parents for allowance. They can only do so much in this bad economy.

as an undergraduate, i work and do business, my parents dont send me money, rather i send money to my younger ones from what i earn.

I don't receive any alert for my dad... Thanks to my egbon who send me 4k, from is little salary... And thanks to mummy for always supplying me with 200. Naira credit, every. week.... It has just been God all the way.

I didn't have the luxury of receiving monthly allowances but i had an aunt who would send me money occasionally, God bless her soul.
I still reverence her today and will forever do. I also had good friends in my hostel, i was practically living off them and they never complained.
Today God has blessed me, I remember back then when a friend was complaining about the 20k her parents sent to her and how little it was.
I was beyond shocked and just thought within myself that if only she knew my own situation she would have been more grateful
Those years are gone now but I retained those good friends. I am very grateful to God that today i have a Masters degree, considering the past.
I was once taunted for being the one with only one pair of slipper and i was identified by that.."the one wey dey wear one one slipper" but today I'm a far cry from that, thank You Jesus.
