This AJIMOBI needs to be charged to court as impostor and for defamation ofgreat AWOLOWO character and heritage.

The breaking point....... Education should be free and properly funded.. Awolowo gave free textbooks, students learn in a conducive classroom with adequate furniture most of the leaders benefitted from Awo legacy but can they sincerly say they are giving 10percent of what they received to the students? Trust me if the government does not get things right these students will graduate and devour the children of the elites later in the future... It is just a matter of time
. You need to go round the city to see the level of damage done by the students who have been pushed to the wall.. They did not destroy Awolowo's image but touched the governor's image.. Thats a clear message.
why should it be free.?
will the teachers work for free?
will books be free?
are you ready to pay for free education? (tax, vote with sense)?

Check through the video footage with Tvc the young students stood their grounds to demand for what is right.. They stood and faced the security agents. They did not run but stood their grounds... I don't need to ask anyone in Syria or any other place, I am a Nigerian and not a Syrian...

Are you a good citizen by paying your tax ? Then i will agree with you.
You dare mention developed countries where tax has been mandatory for every citizens then you have the right to talk and protest if govt did wrong. Its all for their benefit cos education is losing value already in Nigeria. Check all over the world where they have good education standard ''IT IS NOT FREE''. You dare to ask a secondary school student ''what is your name'' but can not even understand you let alone of expressing himself in english. My brother, I am in cape town, south africa, education have no value in Nigeria anymore. please PPP is a welcome idea, but nigerians are very tough people to govern because most are educated illiterates. They pass through school but school doesn't pass through them. If the education system continue in this way, then i pity the future of the young ones.

enough for the wise!

Well you are in SA. I did not mention developed countries in my post.. I only made reference to how it was in the past.. Everyone saying PPP is a good idea like PPP is something new within the education sector. We have so many private schools around the city anyone who is interested in pp should go and establish a school and contribute his own quota to the system. Everyone is entitled to his own opinion.. I pay my tax which is deducted from source.. The students are also stakeholders and they have the right to state their grievances... Education remains a legacy which will forever have value even in Nigeria.... The Nnpc qualifying exams to select students to represent Oyo state was conducted recently and a student from a government community school in igboelerin Oyo state came top leading students from private schools and some other govt schools. So please saying education is of no value is an insult to hard working students and teachers who despite all the setbacks still work hard to achieve success.. If you feel otherwise Goodluck to you.

In the USA and other developed countries, education up till secondary school level is absolutely free if charge .

Do you know why you pay taxes at all ? You pay VAT on everything you buy, if you work you pay PAYE tax ...do we pay those taxes because we like government? Absolutely not. We pay them so that amenities and infrastructure would be provided. So free basic education is not a favour.

I live in the USA, education to secondary school level is absolutely free. Even for children of people that are neither citizens nor green card holders. Don't let the S.A guy tell you nonsense. In the USA sef at the end of every tax year, they return taxes collected from you in a lump sum. it is called Tax return. that is the money most people use to come and flex or buy land in Nigeria when they come home. At least you get $2,500 even if you are working part time.

And who says Nigerians do not pay taxes?

APC is an agent of destruction of all the legacies of our fathers.

APC's next destruction is to remove all subsidy on education.

Parents should brazen up for heavy payment of tuition for tertiary education of their wards in public universities.

Only the rich will be able to train their wards when they are done.

The signs are there. Buhari said only those who can afford higher education abroad should access forex through the parallel market.

we cannot pay for free education with just oyel money.do the math.
60 million in pry 25 million in sec and a million in uni.

NLC & TUC in Oyo state should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves for dragging secondary school children into this shameful behavior. Is NLC/TUC happy that teachers are owed salaries?

Would it not be better if the original owners of some of these schools take them back so that the Governor can adequately take care of the remaining public schools?

No wonder NLC/TUC have lost the honor and respect they once enjoyed from Nigerians. They have now resorted to teaching school children the act of vandalism and lawlessness.

NLC/TUC Oyo state chapter should clap for themselves when these students enter the Universities and become cultists and vagabonds.

The quality of education in Oyo state is shameful, the govt income can not cater for the kind of free education most people are clamouring for, I suggest Govt give out free and QUALITY education within primary schools, and not the kind of free education govt is currently offering in ramshackled classrooms and disoriented teachers.

IN Oyo state there are close to 650 secondary schools, if there are average of 40 teachers in each schools , and they earn average of N40,000 monthly. 650 * 40 *40,000 = over 1 billion naira monthly to pay salaries.

This calculation excludes primary school teachers and tertiary institution lecturers /members of stafff.

How realistic is govt paying over 1 billion naira as monthly wages to teachers in just secondary schools in the face of dwindling income? What then happens to subvention to schools to run and maintain these schools? Little wonder most of the schools are in decrepit state .

N.B = My estimate is quite conservative.

Anyone still believing in the Awolowo type of free education in 2016 is living in the past. Awolowo was quite intelligent, and the strategy of the past might not necessarily apply now. Free education electoral promise is a deceipt that guarantees sub standard education that can not make students compete in the environment. I can bet many secondary school graduates in Oyo public schools can not write better than some primary 5 common entrance applicants trained in private schools.

Govt should focus on primary education and make it truly free and qualitative. It is the basic building block.

Universal Basic Education is a right as enshrined in the UN charter and not a privilege.

Please show me a receipt where you paid tuition for a child from elementary to high school in government owned schoo in the USAl as I specified in my post.

As for tax, Nigerians do pay taxes especially PAYE taxes and VAT which is always factored into the cost of items and usually not listed seperately.

What will kill Nigeria is kleptomaniac, government officials pure and simple.

The problem is not just kleptomania, it is way beyond that. The income base of most states is quite weak, and the leaders are not creative to expand IGR partly because the structure of governance we practice is faulty and another because followers love deceit .

Nigerians overestimate income of the country and state, when it is compared to the population it becomes close to nothing.

South africa with 50 million population has over 25 trillion naira budget , compared to a 180 million population with 6 trillion naira budget.

Oyo state receives barely 1 billion naira mothly from FG in the last few months. I just gave a simple calculation where paying salaries of secondary school teachers will gulp the whole 1 billion naira. What then happens to building new secondary schools, renovating old ones, employing new secondary school teachers ? What about paying primary school teachers?, tertiary institutions nkor Other sectors nkor ? Abi health workers like doctors, nurses e.t.c no go collect pay? Govt would not build infrastructures? High population is a two edged sword, one edge is an advantage, the other edge is a disadvantage.

the VAT you are talking of is overrated. Do you know how much each states get from VAT.? Dont give Awolowo example to justify free education o, Many years back, University students were fed fat with meal tickets and there where one or at most 2 in rooms of HOR that now has 7 students +? While Govt needs was growing in geometric progression, its income was barely growing, or at best it was growing in arithmetic progression. Every govt worker wants increase in pay na. A teachers reward is no more in heaven, My late grandmother retired as a head mistress of a primary school, and she jocularly told me the pay then meant most landlords avoid renting out houses to teachers. The question for debate should be what can be done to generate tangible income across the states ?
