Oga Megainvest ,

I have been doing some UCAP DD based on this article

http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/05/26/united-capital-gains-n1-5bn-from-sale-of-insurance-firm/

"The purchase consideration for the shares in United Metropolitan Nigeria Life amounted to N3.25 billion and the transaction closed on 10 May, 2016. United Capital realised a capital gain of N1.5 billion from the transaction"

If as at Dec 2015, the carrying value of Met Life was already N2.2b and they sell for N3.2b then the gain is supposed to be only N1bn not N1.5bn. (also note that this calculation does not involve the increase in carrying value as at Q1 2016 from associate share of profit)

Do you think their half year results will be then be as spectacular as the yoots are hoping?

(I dey fear a case of the more you look, the less you see)

You may be right. Let's wait for H1 result.

@ DeRuggedProf you are right.

The market is very unpredictable. Anything can happen overnight and the stock will change course right before your eyes. Unity movement is because TUC said they want to acquire 57% (or so) of the bank. Any news can hit the market tonight and another stock will take off just like that cheesy

Hi guys!

I've been trying to process my E-mandate form at GTB for a while now all to no avail. Shareholder's number is being requested and I've provided them with the number on the dividend warrant sent to me by the registrars. I've been to two branches with the same result. I'm being told that details of my account could not be found and I've confirmed my shareholder number with the registrars. Has anyone encountered such or has an idea of what this 'shareholder number' is?

Thanks.

If I'm right, you are processing your E-mandate with the bank. My experience with GT shows that some of their staff are not hands on with the processs yet, unfortunately, banks nationwide are mandated to process E-mandate through a portal but you can opt out. If you are having issues, I advice you fill your E-mandate form, get the banks to sign it and take it to the registrar. Your broker is another option but it MAY not be as fast. Goodluck

I also encountered the same issue. Although shareholder number was requested for and sent via mail. Upon upload, I was told the number is wrong.

Thank you! They have absolutely no clue. I suspect it might be CSCS number. Sadly the bank won't even sign it without providing this special number.

Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by zendi: 1:45pm On Jun 09, 2016
UCAP is still tied to the apron strings of its mother UBA in price movement.
If UBA laughs, UCAP laughs. If UBA weeps, UCAP weeps, regardless of its own specific fundamentals.
Could be because they're sitting close together on the alphabetical order pricelist, and traders are always glancing at what's happening to the mother when bidding for the baby.
This could explain why UCAP never advances much despite all the positive noise about it.

I have to disagree with you a little. The fact that you lost millions on it means that some others made millions on it. OANDO is one of the textbook examples for a JIJO (jump in jump out) stock- if it rises, it must come down, if it comes down, it must rise again. You must not invest money you need urgently on it so that if things goes south, you either quickly jump out and lick your wounds or just wait for it to rise back up. The good thing about oando and some other stock is that it is always very liquid. As a rule, I do not go near illiquid stocks. What is the point if I put for example 2M on a stock whose daily sales is usually not more that 200k? what happens if I need to jump out? Na my only stock dem go sell that day?
For medium term strategists, I think OANDO is a bad idea, but for the long term strategists, I think it is very undervalued. People in 5-10 years will not believe that this stock was just above 3 naira this year. I know most people here are JIJO strategists, but stocks like these are good for people with long throat who have a high risk appetite, but also patience if thing does not go well in the immediate-term. It also means you should have access to money you can afford to leave alone for some time.
Declaration of interest: I have got my fingers burnt big time on oando, but then I have also made good profits both real and imaginary. Bought massively at <4 and 5naira. Waiting to bail out soon and reenter.
