Errors In The N-power Model..........possible Adaptations by Eddygourdo(m): 9:11am On Jun 09, 2016 |
Its no longer news that we produce half baked graduates. Thus any program garnered towards reeducating our youths with useful skills aimed at entrepreneurship and self employment should be the norm. Thus I see the N-power program as a good initiative, still I disprove its model especially on tteaching. The NYSC scheme was remodelled a long time ago to be strictly teaching , yet the new scheme again intends to utilize same graduates as teachers again for a two year period. how exactly will teaching or the 23k stipend prepare our youths for life after finishing the program. I know there are plans in other niches like technology etc. I believe areas that can produce future self employment should be paramount instead of teaching. Why not place an intensive skill / entreprenurship training scheme in agriculture, small scale manaufacturing , technology, trades and craft etc such that on completion of a one year training in NYSC on teaching, a Two year skill acquistion/entrepreneurship program with the N-power. These graduate would be granted soft loans on graduation under a policy that enables them invest their learnt skills to start businesses for themselves. Must we give graduates 3years teaching experience to what purpose exactly? Diversification of the economy is paramount here and thus our graduates could be trained to establish SME's in all these areas after two years of intensive training on diverse areas of intrest. This would start creating employers of future labour. The you-win programme wasn't bad too, the idea of seconding graduates to firms at no cost for the firms to train them and thus make them either employable or better enterpreurs. All these can be encompassing but I stand against the massive teaching nonsense. It doesn't solve anything. If yyou need teachers in ur schools, then employ them directly and pay them like staffs and not 23k. Our youths need empowerment in self susteance and not ur 23k stipends or more useless teaching experiences. Thanks Eddygourdo 2 Likes |

There are so many weaknesses in your argument that one wonders whether you even understand the key objectives of the scheme. You have also ignored the improvement that it will likely bring to our educational sector and literacy level, which is one of the measures of development and HDI. There is also a scheme that ticks all the "YOU WIN" boxes. Get educated bro. 5 Likes |

This program is a good one. I can't complain, it goes beyond 23k and 'just teaching' . . . the advantages are countless. The N500b feeding program is the one that is out of place. |

DelGardo:now imagine this type of fellow, its ur type who will be tasked to teach students what you don't even know. What is the aim of the N power program. If at all its a youth empowerment scheme, in your cluelessness please relate how an extended 3year teaching for a nigerian graduate helps to better the life of such a fellow. Do you just type because u have Mb or is this how ur brain works ? 1 Like |

kkkp:and what is good about this program, what is good about a program that subsidizes the suffering of our youths by teaching and 23k. How does that prepare them for life after the program |

DelGardo:look at this short sighted phool. Post ur thrid class and watch me shame ur mediocrity. So two year jobs is thhe solution to the nigerian unemployment crisis? It hurts that clueless people never realise they are clueless. Shame |

Eddygourdo: For your own sake I will still keep it civil and pretend we are having a decent discussion. So you problem is the length of employment not the pay or the type etc? I have not seen anywhere in the document for this scheme where it was billed as the final solution to the employment crisis. Now I don't know where you got that from. The point is that you might have some valid views but you have not marshaled them well, making your post somewhat empty and lacking in merit. I have not said you are illiterate, just read the programme literature. How hard is that? 3 Likes |

DelGardo:mr man, dat u couldn't understand my post doesn't give u the right to speak to ur betters about reeducation. I clearly highlighted the flaw in the program. I highlighted that the program is laudable but there is no need for a teaching option. That produces no solution. I highlighted areas they should concentrate on to enable the graduates become self sustaining after the duration of the program. Yet you say my views are lacking in merit because ur shortsighted. You as a typical nigerian have considered a quick fix to the problem of unemployment. Isn't that the aim of the N power program ? Isn't it suppoised to be a youth empowerment program ? How does the teaching option solve that if the same program didn't do that after nysc? Are they supposed to establish schools after graduation ? Are they teacher trainees to be employed after the duration ? Or are we employing them for 2years so they could return to unemployment after the period ? For God sake wat is wrong with this nation that its people cannot think . A two year program on ICT alone may not be sufficeint imagine pairing dat with teaching. Why can't this be a means of diversification. Why can't they concentrate on areas that would produce entrepreneurs after the program rather than teaching. Why must they teach ? Has any economy growth indices been improved by the number of teachers ? We truly deserve our leaders. We don't know wat we want. Shame |

The best solution would have been to give loans of 1 Million to 3 million loans to graduates using their certificate as collateral, that's after a business plan have been shown ans defended... This people will pax tax in few years time This people will employ labour( the non and semi educated ones) And u will only need to fund the project for few years and then the programme will become self sustaining This my humble opinion, |

MIKOLOWISKA:exactly and in two years we will get some of our teeming graduates inloved in agriculture and other sectors necassary to develop and diversify our economy. We will create employers of labour. Yet they prefer a teaching option dat produce no career gain to the graduates. Yet some people do not see the flaw in that |

MIKOLOWISKA:You and the OP are so right. Teaching wont do anything long term for young graduate. Empowerment for me simply means training job ready skills and entrepreneurship for those who have the talent. The most worrisome is the creation of entitlement programmes like 5k for the poor. Its a slippery slope, soon other parties will be competing to out do APC then like joke entitlement program will consume the whole budget. Not to talk of the laziness welfare programs enthrone on the recepients. |

Eddygoudo (sounds like you are my pal from tekken) Back to topic, Not everyone has a desire or passion to teach. You can take a horse to the river, you can't force it to drink. I quite understand its a short term plan but (my personal view) I believe a lot of short term plans are better than this. Its time to engage all the Universities in Nigeria, all the pojects done since time immemorial for agriculture needs to be obtained and more research work needs to be done. They need to absorb youths in collaboration with experts in the private sector to develop all aspects of agriculture from crop to animal. Processing and preservation. Tractor assembly plants can be situated in the 6 regions, this will create more jobs, availability of tractor and enhance productivity. Did I mention recycling stations too? yes, very important. Nothing in this world is a waste. in a company in the UK where I once worked, they saved £400k/annually on recycling cartons. I laugh when I see people throw away cartons in the bin. They already partnered with Huawei to train graduates in the tech area which is a welcome development. This does not in any way stop people who intend to teach to go into it, it 1 Like |

DelGardo: You are the one that will go and get education, please ask yourself what next for them after the program they will be on the unemployment line again. Let me tell you good teachers are born, instead of this program improving the educational system in our country it will do the opposit. Do you know why our university graduates are not employable it is because of low standard of education in our institutions and you want them to come and teach our kids are you kid me. |
