The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has called on Niger-Delta militants to embrace dialogue as the blowing up of oil facilities is negatively affecting the nation’s economy.
According to a statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic media he the governor also accused Nigerian Agip Oil Company of being responsible for some of the conflicts in the area, stating that should Agip continue to act against the security of the state, the state government will revoke the certificate of occupancy of the oil company.
The governor also stated that the destruction of oil installations also damage the environment which will negatively impact host communities.
He spoke at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday when he received the Ogba, Ndoni, Egbema Local Area (ONELGA ) Youths Consultative Council (OYCC).
He said that should the oil production continue to drop, the nation will face crisis, hence the need for the restoration of peace through negotiation and dialogue.
He said : "If the oil production continues to drop, this country will be in crisis. Blowing up oil facilities also has negative effect on our environment. There is need for the dialogue to go on.
"I believe in one united Nigeria and it is in our interest to have peace for development ".
Governor Wike added that the Niger Delta State Governors should be involved in the the process for the award of pipeline contracts for the identification of clean groups without links to cultists.
He commended the OYCC for promoting peace in ONELGA, which is the highest oil producing local government in the country.
The governor assured the people of ONELGA that his administration will execute more development projects in the area. He added that the people also benefit from the the entrepreneurial loan scheme of his administration for small businesses.
Earlier, President of OYCC, Mr Kingsley Ogumike praised Governor Wike for executing developmental projects in the area and appointing indigenes of the area into key positions.

They appealed to the governor to always invest in the security of the local government area. He assured the governor of the support of the youths in the area.

Avengers' Condition for Peace: Leave Our Corrupt Brothers Alone

Corruption is ferociously fighting back. Will the President succumb?

Is this going to be another test for the President after the neo-liberals have pressed him hard to devalue the Naira though he still believes it is a fruitless measure?

If you were the President, what would you do: Succumb to the terrorists or fight them to finish?

Now, do not rush. Get your cards clear. Your condition would be as bad as being between the sea and the hard place.

If you would, on the one hand, succumb to their demands by, among other conditions, withdrawing your troops and letting their corrupt ex-officials enjoy their loot freely, then you can as well call it quits on your war on corruption and let my brother Dasuki and others to equally enjoy their loot freely. Finally, be prepared to declare a surrender and concede that corruption has won. Corruption will then walk the streets briskly with pomp and pageantry. You would have chosen to fight it another day at your own peril, as Machiavelli would put it. The entire premise for voting for you would then be completely eroded. You would become a ghost of your former self, empty and dejected.

If you would, on the other hand, stick to your guns, make your threats real and call the bluff of the terrorists, then prepare to run the country without a dime of oil proceeds. It will reach a point where Nigeria cannot export even a barrel of oil per day. If your citizens can endure the lean years of Joseph in the absence of any store - years without salary and a naira hovering somewhere around N1000/dollar - then, and only then, you may contemplate this option. The benefit, however, would be great: Our final cure from the cancer of dependence on oil and freedom from the corrupt cabal from the Niger Delta.

Put yourself in these thorny shoes of the President before you contribute to the debate.

My Governor, begging them is not enough without you diplomatically speaking to Buhari. Let him know that only a fool fights in his parlour. That Nigeria is likened to that proverbial Chinese man workshop and bulls are not needed. The activities of the militants in the Niger Delta is never of same economic effects with the disturbances of the whole north. Nigeria can fund her budget and still remains a top economy in Africa if there is less disturbance in the political Niger Delta states and Lagos with turmoil all over north same can not be said if it is in the reverse. It is not the hard work of the Niger Deltans that earn then this status but a free gift of nature.
Most rebels have come to realize that the best way to fight government might is through guerrilla warfare and the best military in the world can not defeat a ragtag guerrilla team of just 20 persons if they are sophistically coordinated let alone a glorify setting called Nigerian army of late where people join because of lack of job or by political appointments.
Saber rattling will not work. APC did a mistake by pitching the north against the south. If Jonathan as they claimed was corrupt and was not working, Saint Amaechi pitched against him would win him. People down the south may not be overly connected with the bombing of pipeline but by the singular reason of Jonathan's defeat are sympathetic to the cause of NDA. They may know who they are and if need be would harbor them because by commission or omission they believe they are paying back the disturbances in the north believed to have been sponsored against Jonathan's reign.
Buhari should be sensitive to these issues and apply the model of stooping to conquer. You cant kill a militant without shooting a gun. You cant shoot a gun without producing a flame. Oil and gas activities detest open flames. The oil and gas activities are done in a serene environment.
