ochallo: you are sounding real funny!!..if you're getting married to an urhobo lady you'd pay #25 as bride price and given back #15 and you'd be told;"we aren't selling our daughter she's still our property"..its a must you bring her body to her father's house, her family compound. 1 Like |

ochallo:It is an insult to the Urhobo nation to adress them as noise makers, if your paternal side are noise makers then don't blame the Urhobo's for that. There is no where in Urhobo land were the husband is taxed or money is extorted from the husband, how can you extort money from your son inlaw, someone that paid her bride price. What are you extorting money from him for? The tradition is clear if the woman dies she is expected to be buried at her paternal home not his husband home but there are few cases where the wife have notified her family people that she be allowed to be buried at her husband place or the husband is able to persuade the wife family so that she be buried at her husband home town. The only time the husband will have problems with her wife people is when the bride price is not paid, and you can't blame anyone one because no body recognise you as an inlaw 2 Likes |

I don't know why you guys think making up stories to feel good and lying through your teeth can take you anywhere. Obasanjo never cried or said he won't marry again, in fact he's been married(Bola Obasanjo)since Stella's death. Jide Kosoko has a legally(Nikai)married wife(Alhaja)living with him while your Niger delta sister with no dowry paid lived by herself. dragonking2: |

Re: Henrietta Kosoko's Body Leaves For Abraka Village by teeobat: 9:38pm On Jun 10, 2016 |
Yes dear, it is in their culture, even if he paid dowry, that body will still be returned. Cos once the dowry is paid, a little change is given back to the man, that change signifies, that they only gave you wife, they didn't sell her off, so should anything happens to her, return her back to us. But on jide kosoko case, he won't be recognised as an in law, if he he had paid, he would have been accorded every respect as an in law, as the case maybe, unless he pays certain fines, he might not be allowed to see where she will be buried. darelar: |

I wasn't even going to comment on nairaland today, as I joined the millions mourning the woman in spirit, she was very likeable. Then I saw the nonsense post, I just couldn't allow lies like that to keep flooding nairaland. This is really nothing but if we allow small lies, big ones will seep through too. Google63: |
This is 21st century, change that culture [/quote We are Africans and we must act as such, we must try and maintain and sustain our culture despite the introduction of technology and modernisation. I do not see what should be changed there, the fact that we collect N120 as bride price or the fact that the money is too small, or would you rather prefer we collect millions like our brothers from the eastern part and have the lady buried at her husband's place. I am so sorry to disappoint you, we will not change it, try and deal with it . 1 Like |
What nonsense. My mum is from delta state, when she passed we buried her in our private residence, 6 hours from delta state despite the noise generated by the trouble makers called urhobo people. Do they think they are going to find it easy in that place, they may not be able to bury the body today self because the taxing might reck Jide kosoko . Jide should have simply paid them off from Lagos, than carry the body to abraka where he would have to pay through his noise. Anyway in his case , they said they were never traditionally married. Those saying the kids would come to her grave side don't know what they are saying. Your mother stays in your heart, in her pictures , not in some stupid grave. Even the one in our private residence , I can't remember the time I went to the grave side. [/quote Honestly you are ignorant, perhaps an illiterate. 1 Like |

mikkypel: In some cases - at the insistence of her immediate family (i.e children) or due to some other factors- the woman can be buried at her husband's place, else it is our culture and i don't see anything wrong about it. After all marriage is " till death do us part". @Ochallo, urhobos are not troublesome and everyone in Nigeria know these for a fact, we don't tax people for burying their loved ones, if you did not pay a bride price then you don't expect anyone to recognize you as an in-law or expect anyone to welcome you as such. |

Carlmax: No one is talking about bride price here, it is an heavenly and traditional bound right for u to pay your wife's dowry.. What I am agitating for is allow the husband bury his own better half anywhere he pleases, If we are to go by burying her where she came from sef.. Ordinarily you should take her body to heaven cuz she came from there... The husband owns her living and dead body.. Till death do them part means the husband can now remarry since death has parted them... I am still on my ground, this is 21st century, Some tribes are already changing their culture due to the effect it has on them all because of ignorance |

Re: Henrietta Kosoko's Body Leaves For Abraka Village by airsaylongcon: 7:02am On Jun 11, 2016 |
darelar: It is Urhobo culture that when a woman dies she is brought back to her father's house and buried in his village. The thinking is that she wasn't sold out but only given as a wife. This is the reason the actual dowry is very small and the family requests on the wedding rites are not as demanding. 1 Like |
