And what did your burukutu-clueless-ogogoro-ineffectual-buffon phd holder who study zoology has to do with governance/administration of a country? Nigeria would have been better if your Otueke brother limited his administration to zoo, the lion and other animals' habitat.

U are d first and only person that feels Barth nnaji did nothing as power minister. Too poor and myopic thought.
What's administrative about the position of a minister without in depth knowledge of d field?
Why has an engineer not bin appointed minister for health?
Is the minister of justice a medical doctor?
You guys think out of d brain
The Minister is a political position those who say it is administrative are half correct. It is political and In Japan France Germany and the UK none of the energy Ministers is a scientist. The issue is that countries work/function properly by developing their institutions, civil service and bureaucracies ,that is where the technocrats are required. The Job of a Minister is to act as a representative of the PEOPLE in a democracy. In theory the Minister understands better the voice of the electorate having either been elected or appointed by an elected person.
If I want to have a party I know what makes me happy even though I appoint an expert event planner ,I still give direction according to my wishes and tastes not hat the expert wants.

The job of a Minister is to represent the interests of voters. I m not a fan of Fashola personally but he is not disqualified by being a lawyer. I would criticize him more for his lack of political awareness just like Kachikwu saying he is not a magician. That is the sort of thing a non political Minister would say and Fashola too speaks like that.
The problem of Nigeria is not who is the Minister but who is in the ministry and as long as that is based on Federal Character and jingoism we can't make progress. No minister has powe to come in and weed out bad eggs without starting an ethnic war.
The penultimate Secretary for defence in the UK was a doctor. This is the Minister of defence for a nuclear power so what are we talking about?

Dude stop embarrassing yourself. The power ministers of France, England, China and Russia are not engineers, they didn't even study a science related course.
[/quote
Even If this Your assertion is true the guy you quoted is still right, in the sense that those countries are far more advanced than our country Nigéria.their power ministries practically runs its self ,having been built by great engineers in the past .So What they need now is Just some one to see to the day to day running of the ministries, unlike Nigéria.
What we need is a real technocrat from the Science or engineering sector.

The problem is not the Minister it is the Ministry.Under our system Ministers ,even the President does not have much power to change Ministries many of which need overhauling. We are hamstrung by law and constitution that means many unqualified people hold senior positions across Ministries. As far as poweris concerned.I do not believe government can or will solve that problem, in Nigeria just like with telecomms change will have to be private sector led

This isn't an issue of what certificate you have in engineering. The problem of power in Nigeria doesn't need a genius like you claim. If it was so, the former minister of power should have gotten it right. He was there and couldn't.

You need to understand that with so many vested interested. So, what it takes is someone that can coordinate and manage this vested egos.

Fashola ones said that a transmission line had to be build from one location to another but there was a telecom mask along the way and because they the ministry of power couldn't have an understanding with the telecom company, the transmission line was left for more than 2 years and nothing done to it.

But all he had to do was call the owner of the telecom company and they spoke like friends and it yielded the needed result. In 2 weeks, the telecom mask was move from there, and the transmission line continued, since it was actually easier to change the location of the telecom mask than changing the direction of the transmission line.

So, it not about science or engineering, it about making people to see reasons with you why they should allow pipelines to be and not blow them, or why they should allow transmission line pass through the farmland that their great grand father left for them and many more

grin telecom mask grin

Why are these meters on electric poles? Why not make this meter smart, in such a way that they can be monitored remotely so that the meters will be mounted on people's home?

The technology is there, is cheap and has been tested and proven. Besides, it will provide more jobs for the data processors that will be on those work station monitoring the system, those that pay, those connecting illegally etc. Besides, the meters are theirs, whatever investment they have put into it, in the course of 5 to 6 years, they will get it back.

What I see now is a short cut that will affect us years to come. Short cut or this quick has not really gotten us anywhere in this country. When Nigeria wanted electricity, instead of doing the right thing with underground wiring as is done in countries that are successful, they choose the cheap option of surface wiring with electric poles, despite the money they had and today, we are still suffering from that decision

The meters are on electric poles because of the corrupt nature of some people. They run cables under the ground and on the ceiling where about 80% of the loads would have been powered without routing them through the meter. So, they only pay for about 20% of their loads which the meter reads. They must have adopted this system now because of the privatisation as the the NEPA /PHCN technicians that used to make such arrangements for the people are now being affected because they don't want their take home to be affected. They have been cheating the FG since, making money for themselves exploring every crocked means available to them. But, now the DISCOS know that they have to make profit and pay the GENCOS for them to remain in business as it's no more business as usual.
Your suggestion is good but they can only be implemented in phases, so this is the early stage of it, the involved companies (GENCOS, DISCOS etc) have to be self financing and making profits, so that there'll be money to execute the other phases till it gets to the level you explained above or even better.
Corruption and indiscipline across boards and at all levels are the major reasons a lot of things don't work in this country, the intensity is just more pronounced in some levels, sections, areas etc than others. But we must just start from somewhere, keep on moving and never to stop.
That's why we must support the FG in dealing with and tackling corruption even if they are are not doing it to our satisfaction.
God Bless Nigeria.

The duties of a power minister requires a lot of technical background. Fashola is just the wrongest person for dat position. Administrative works isn't sufficient to qualify him as a power minister.
Fashola will learn microgrid, distributed generation, smart metering, power harmonics, voltage and frequency control etc.
Give Fashola d diagram of our centralised grid from Oshogbo control centre and u think he will understand ? Show him a line diagram or three phase diagram of 330kv network in Nigeria. Will he understand? What recommendations can he give to people with 20 years experience in d power sector ? Even when he hires a power consultant to assist him, will he understand the technicalities they give him ? We need to stop deceiving ourselves here.
Nnaji and the likes, some people say with engineering background didn't perform? They performed according to the resources made available to them.
The world's largest dam is in China with a capacity of 22,500MW amd a cost of about $28b to build which is more than the 2016 budget of the whole Nigeria if $1=N350
Power is really expensive i know. However, this Fashola led power sector have made power situation worse even before the bombings of pipelines.

My simple question is how can a country of over 180million find it difficult to get seasoned professionals in managing science oriented ministries. We don't need people that will be speaking English day in day out but practical professionals that will hit the ground running. Left to me the COREN, NIA, NSE, CORBON should all bury their heads in shame as they cannot protest and reject such appointment. Fashola might be a shadow of himself throughout the 4yrs as his position is overwhelming for his capacity.
the science oriented don't seem to understand the basics. you need to win election or join winning party.if they can't get this how can we trust them with pocket science. like my dad says, they can't ensure toilets flush in academic institutions yet they want to be given real responsibility
