A minister is a politician. Their job is more of policy making and supervision. A lawyer can be a President but cannot be a minister of power? Seriously? |

Once you continue to argue blindly you can learn from the past. Nigeria had ministers of power as technocrats . But no solution , dont you think something critical is wrong with system. That can only be put straight by an administrator. |

Re: Fashola Launches Kano Mass Meter Deployment by rottennaija(m): 8:53pm On Jun 13, 2016 |
Burshh: The reason why they are on poles is because they are not smart. Because of fear of people looping the meters, they put it on poles because when a meter is loop, it will simply not measure consumption but will supply. Smart prepared meters enables two way communication, and can detect tampering. |

The job is not an Engineers job to keep arguing that is just idiocy. The job of a Minister is to give political direction to a professional civil service at any rate the world of electricity generation is largely a business with the knowledge embedded in large commercial entities. A ministry is not that and so people need to ask themselves what is the function of the Ministry of power, not just the minister. Is the Ministry a store of Engineering knowhow? Is that what it is supposed to be.? When Britain, a nuclear power made Liam Fox ,A doctor Minister of defence were they sleeping? In developed countries politicians are professials and learn their trade moving from ministry to ministry before thinking of heading the government. Except for attorney general anyone can hold ANY portfolio |

vRendoh:What is the job of the Minister of health? Do we need a Minister of Health in Nigeria? Does it make any difference whether we have one or not? The Secretary for Health in the UK read Politics ,Economics and Philosophy. In serious countries political administration is learnt by apprenticeship. You leave university and start carrying the bag of a Minister as an intern ,you do that well and get posted to Education as a junior assistant and to Health and so on. Your job is to explain your manifesto on which you campaigned to civil servants to implement . The curent Health Minister in the UK was the Culture Secretary when they hosted the Olympics. It is funny people just pontificate ignorantly without a clue how government works |
Why are these meters on electric poles? Why not make this meter smart, in such a way that they can be monitored remotely so that the meters will be mounted on people's home? Well said. I have never seen electric meters meant for homes on poles in the open. Very soon, the meters will develop problems because of the elements. Then somebody will come up with a new idea and all the money spent is wasted. If we must use this technology, we must use the way it is used in other countries. 1 Like |

stilljigga:with respect you are contradicting yourself. What arre the duties of a power minister? what is so complex about a diagram of a centralized grid that a secondary school graduate cannot understand? In the parliamentary system of Government all Ministers are also elected as legislators . So what happens when someone with this so called technical background is not elected? In France they have a lawyer,in Germany a teacher,UK she read History and China that you talk about do not have an Engineer ,same in South Africa ,IN INDIA HE IS A LAWYER and ACCOUNTANT. In Brazil he is a businessman,ITALY they have a LAWYER, The most recent one in Spain just resigned his degree is in Business/economics In Russia he read Economics and Management. Your problem starts with your false assumption about "THE DUTIES OF A POWER MINISTER" . It is a political job required to provide political supervision. Anyone who did not waste time in university ,has a brain in his head and has been in government for 10 years can run any ministry. If Dangote was made Minister of power he would do well and he has no technical background Let us put it like this NAME THREE COUNTRIES THAT HAVE AN ENGINEER AS POWER MINISTER |
