The technology is there, is cheap and has been tested and proven. Besides, it will provide more jobs for the data processors that will be on those work station monitoring the system, those that pay,those connecting illegally etc. Besides, the meters are theirs, whatever investment they have put into it, in the course of 5 to 6 years, they will get it back.

What I see now is a short cut that will affect us years to come. Short cut or this quick has not really gotten us anywhere in this country. When Nigeria wanted electricity, instead of doing the right thing with underground wiring as is done in countries that are successful, they choose the cheap option of surface wiring with electric poles, despite the money they had and today, we are still suffering from that decision

The reason why they are on poles is because they are not smart. Because of fear of people looping the meters, they put it on poles because when a meter is loop, it will simply not measure consumption but will supply.

Smart prepared meters enables two way communication, and can detect tampering.

The job is not an Engineers job to keep arguing that is just idiocy. The job of a Minister is to give political direction to a professional civil service at any rate the world of electricity generation is largely a business with the knowledge embedded in large commercial entities. A ministry is not that and so people need to ask themselves what is the function of the Ministry of power,not just the minister. Is the Ministry a store of Engineering knowhow? What is the job of the Minister of health? Do we need a Minister of Health in Nigeria? Does it make any difference whether we have one or not?

The Secretary for Health in the UK read Politics ,Economics and Philosophy. In serious countries political administration is learnt by apprenticeship. You leave university and start carrying the bag of a Minister as an intern ,you do that well and get posted to Education as a junior assistant and to Health and so on. Your job is to explain your manifesto on which you campaigned to civil servants to implement . The curent Health Minister in the UK was the Culture Secretary when they hosted the Olympics.

I have never seen electric meters meant for homes on poles in the open.
Very soon, the meters will develop problems because of the elements.
Then somebody will come up with a new idea and all the money spent is wasted.

If we must use this technology, we must use the way it is used in other countries.

The duties of a power minister requires a lot of technical background. Fashola is just the wrongest person for dat position. Administrative works isn't sufficient to qualify him as a power minister.
Fashola will learn microgrid, distributed generation, smart metering, power harmonics, voltage and frequency control etc.
Give Fashola d diagram of our centralised grid from Oshogbo control centre and u think he will understand ? Show him a line diagram or three phase diagram of 330kv network in Nigeria. Will he understand? What recommendations can he give to people with 20 years experience in d power sector ? Even when he hires a power consultant to assist him, will he understand the technicalities they give him ? We need to stop deceiving ourselves here.
