DEAFandDUMB: OMG! You just summarised my point, you know that right! However, in project management, project team members are supposed to disagree in order to agree! Seriously, the easy route is to just throw in the towel! But the 'peak is in us'..we can make some headways here. I honestly believe that 1 Like |

mikolo80: Though I am pressed to, I don't want to insult you... IGP (Tafa Balogun) is an employee of the FG.... He was not prosecuted while in office ... He first sacked by obasanjo (no more immunity) before he was arrested and charged to court and convicted... Same with Ibori... Ibori was inly arrested and jailed when he left office. Immunity clause says you cannot prosecute a serving political Official .. serving... And before court can convict him, he has to leave office first. Now tell mw who cannot read btw me and you? The other People you mentioned ... Farouk... Saraki... Even tinubu was charged to the CCT ... Was any of them ever convicted or jailed? Yes or No? If your answer in No, don't quote me again 3 Likes |

[quote author=lionshare post=46550948] Comparative Politics...Why is it that all pol sys dont perform the same way? Have you considered the factors inherent in each system? Besides, so you think USA, Germany, India, Canada e.t.c, did not consider fiscal federalism before opting for federalism. Do you know the only major country claiming to be a con-federal state is Switzerland yet it has a strong central govt?[/quote US operating rigid constitution which means it is codified in one document and amendment is very difficult not like ours which is very flexible, easy to amend. would you now say nigeria should operate rigid constitution to make the central powerful? it's also depend on the constitution. one country may combine different systems of government to perform very well while another may choose to operate only systems. There are some countries operating the same federal system while their legislature is unicameral meaning only one house chamber abinitio while Nigeria is operating bicameral. if one advocated nigeria should operate unicameral legislature because of the extra cost of running bicameral then Nigeria should be ready to accommodate delay in passing bill into laws. This is the reason comparative politics as a course is very important. You said Switzerland is operating con-federal but do you know that it may be operating con-federal system while it is operating the structures of unitary system? note: con-federal is a totally weak central government, federal shares some of it powers with the regional governments in only the residual list and true federalism is not totally weak because defence and foreign affairs functions are left for it to perform. 1 Like |

gevans: Hmmmmm..is secession really a helpful solution?if I give u Nigeria on a platter, how will u divide it?four regions wld be my guess..will u consider the mid-west problem(Edo and delta),even with pockets of Igbo communities e.g. Okwasshiukwu..even if u call them South-South,where they not extracted from the western region in 1962?also consider their proximity..now,let's go across the niger bridge, rivers,Abia, akwa ibom,IMO,anambra, how close are they?do u remember the creation of 12 states that further separated them in 1967?.. Now,away frm geography, what happens to family ties(inter-marriages)? Is it flag independence that matters or viability of the state?will weak states not depend on foreign powers(neocolonialism)? I'll stop here, for now. 4 Likes |

@DeafandDumb @Williams10 It's so bad the way northerners and easterners see themselves..the mutual distrust is visible to the blind! But like it has been pointed out, it's our cross Perhaps, one day gazing into the future like BankPHB that said cars will run on water, an Ibo man will gladly and wholeheartedly break kola for his Hausa brother! engrhorla: How old is Nigeria that it is too young to practice fiscal federalism? The last states creation was in 1996... 2016 makes it 20 years... How old is Nigeria that it is too young? Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Egypt all got independence around the same time with Nigeria ... Nigeria was better than them... Today, they are far ahead of Nigeria . How old is Nigeria again that it is too young to practice fiscal federalism? How many years old must Nigeria be before it can practice federalism? 4 Likes |

DEAFandDUMB: How best do I answer ur question but with illustration.Permit me to take u on a journey down memory lane;that's d historian in me. In Northern America(USA)we have a dichotomy;white and black distrust and overt malfeasance and bigotry. We had anemic laws upholding this bitterness and angst(dred scot, jim crow and so on)..even when Lincoln emancipated the slaves in 1863,the white folks still felt superior(ask a kkk). Now we had Dr.King frm d South and Malcom frm d North ..can u forget King's "I have a dream" speech? With is non-violent antics..today,has his dream not materialised(Obama)even amidst the hate and spitefulness..so my dear...I Henryking Voltaire,I HAVE A DREAM..one day this nation will rise above hate and ethnicity and reap the true meaning of democracy and federalism! 3 Likes |

Turning and turning in the widening gyre The falcon cannot hear the falconer; Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold; Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world, The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere The ceremony of innocence is drowned; The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity Surely some revelation is at hand; Surely the Second Coming is at hand. The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi Troubles my sight: somewhere in sands of the desert A shape with lion body and the head of a man, A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun, Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds. The darkness drops again; but now I know That twenty centuries of stony sleep Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle, And what rough beast, its hour come round at last, Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? could ipob be the beast? could the indignant birds be bokoharam, fulani herds men and NDA? could "the centre" be nigeria? could our junketeering president be the falcon who cant hear the falconer (advicers)? is the second coming a prophesy? |

The number of tribes in Kogi state itself is wahala Moreso, I said we are democratically too young! Our democracy is still 16years The major opposition party as at now has no National Party Chairman! Define restructuring. You can't. I can bet my life on it. You don't even know what it means. Even with dictionary. Describe true federalism. Same as above. We complained during slavery Complained during colonisation Complained during first republic Complained during military rule Complained second republic Complained from three states To 9 states To 19 states To 36 states Parliamentary to presidential Option a 4 to the nonsense we have now. Without complain epp? Now it's poor true federalism we want to blame. Japan and Singapore have no single resource. lionshare: How many tribes or ethnic groups are in Germany, Canada, USA, India or Switzerland ... Compared to Nigeria? We all read advantages and disadvantages of various systems of government in school nau. If there are few ethnic groups in a country, you may adopt unitary/central system of government ... Switzerland land mass is very small so federalism does not suit it. But in a country like Nigeria where you have over a hundred ethnic groups... Hausa, igbo, yoruna, bini, kanuri, urhobo, tiv, idoma, efik, ijaw, ijebu, fulani.... And you want to practice unitary system of government ... That country will never work... Because ... Even though they are jammed into one country, they will never work together. If one tribe want to do this, the other tribes will do all they can to frustrate them. IBB Frustrated Abiola... Abacha locked up obasanjo... Obasanjo frustrated Atiku... Boko haram frustrated GEJ... Buhari locked up Nnamdi Kanu... Niger Delta militants are frustrating Buhari... You see am? What steps have other states taken to improve their revenue? Every youth wants to go there. (soap, food additives etc) How does railways concern states planting food and cash crops. Is dangote using nepa? Yet states cannot build industrial estates ? Only oil is in exclusive legislative list? We sell oil 100 a barrel and oyinbo beer value 1000 dollars a barrel. engrhorla: Maturity is not a matter of age. There are young people who are wise and old people who are foolish. Technically speaking, young people are more skilled than old people ... The people who are running Nigeria ' s democracy are not 16 years old... Buhari has been in government since when? He was petroleum minister in 1976.. head of state in 1982 ... Ptdf chairman under Abacha... Though democracy is 16 yrs old... The people who run it are not kids... They are grand parents They have not changed since the last 16 years... If we give them another 16 or even 30 years, do u think they will change? Lost time can never be recovered ... Why are we wasting precious time on a system where everything is do or die affair and why should we devoted more precious time to the same faulty system? If your TV at home is not working ... Take it for repairs.... If it doesn't work properly after repairs, throw it away and buy new TV Who has time for nonsense? 3 Likes |

mikolo80: Dangote is not a state... Dangote is private investor... Capitalism... The same states that are broke and cannot pay salaries... You say states should build this and build that... That is .. socialism.. we had nepa, nitel, Nigerian airways, Nigerian rail... States have their own industries and corporations too... Where are all of them now? They are moribund because the states cannot manage them Dangote... All the industries in Malaysia ... They are privately owned.... They're not run by states... Is it states that built Dangote cement factories? Is it Lagos state government that is building dangote refinary? Why then are u saying states should waste money building industries and infrastructure they cannot optimally manage? I hope you studied government in secondary school...
