I would like to state my problem, I drive a BMW 3 series 2001-2002 model and when I purchased my car the air conditioning system was perfect but now I noticed when I use the system cold air comes out only from one vent at the centre while the other vent brings out warm air.
Also when I use it for a while the vent stops to produce this cold air and would require I turn off the system for a while and turn it back on.
I visited and a supposed expert and without any test highlighted in your write up just tried to fill in gas and concluded the compressor was bad, as it was not able to produce sufficient pressure.
I strongly disagreed with him, simply because it worked quite fine but after a while it shuts down.
So please what would you prescribe could be the fault.

you are low on refrigerant. your lines freeze over because of this and cooling stops. when your lines thaw, your AC picks up again. I have experienced this. find the source of the leak. use a refrigerant with dye and check for leaks with a UV light.
fix the leak, vacuum your system to remove moisture and refill you system with the appropriate amount of gas. if you don't know the quantity, you may use the low side pressure to guide you. stop adding gas as soon as the low side pressure gets to 30-35 psi. don't allow the high side pressure exceed 140 psi either. of course your car should be running with AC on to do do this refill.
you can use these instructions to guide ur AC technician. I did and my AC is chilling again.

Most of these 'Oga I will refill the gas' technicians are quacks and crooks.
