Fuel Scarcity Looms Over Varying Fuel Pump Price- Mega Filling Station Owners by maupe: 11:53pm On Jun 14, 2016
By Luka Binniyat
Owners of Mega Filling Station in
Nigeria, on Tuesday, threatened to shut
operations nationwide over alleged plans by the
management of Nigeria National Petroleum
Company, NNPC, to impose lower pump price of
fuel price on them.
At a briefing in Kaduna by the Mega Filling Station
Owners of Nigeria, AMFSON, its National
Secretary, Kenneth Nwachukwu, claimed the
Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Ibe
Kachikwu, who is also Minister of State for
Petroleum, had directed that all mega filling
stations sell fuel at varying rates of N130.00,
N135.00, N140.00 per litre, while their
competitors sell at N145 per litre.
According to him: “We are kicking against a
directive by the Minister of State for Petroleum
that we sell fuel for less than N145 per litre. We
are all marketers and we get supplies at the same
source and at the same price. Why should we be
made to sell at N130, N135 and N140 per litre
while others sell for N145 per litre? With this
pronouncement by the Minister, we foresee a
looming fuel scarcity because we may have to
shut operations nationwide.
''We also see fuel scarcity because some
unscrupulous marketers would rather get their
supplies and sell in the black market at N145
than take the fuel to their stations and this will
cause another crisis in the retail chain.''
“We have never seen this kind of policy. In fact it
will increase corruption which government is
fighting tooth and nail to stop. Some people are
already bribing their way at the depots and
officials there are selling to them at a price lower
than the official one. These people can afford to
sell at a price lower than N145. But we buy at
official price and as such cannot be forced sell
lower than N145.
“We cannot be in the river and allow soap to
enter our eyes. Take a look at Kaduna situation for
instance, how can someone in Sabon Tasha area
of Kaduna city be selling at a lower pump price,
and another person will be selling at a higher
price along the same Eastern Bypass, the same
vicinity, is there justice in this kind of supply and
distribution of NNPC products. We want to recall
that in the heat of recent past fuel crisis in the
country, we had a meeting with the Minister,
where we proffered solutions to fuel scarcity. We
gave him our support."

Kachikwu better leave them alone OOO. .So this is how they planned to make the market forces take over ... this will only cause more scarcity as every one will rather sell to smaller stations so they can make more profit

Our system simply isn't strong n mature enough for most of the textbook policies our leaders enforce. You don't persuade marketters to sell at lower rate, instead the marketters should be the ones seeking larger market share by enticing customers with lower prices. The marketters have decided to maintain maximum price to maximize profit. I call it the result of years of unionizing to fight off oppression

This government is mad. Me and another person buy same thing at the same price and not that they are giving them discount or subsidising for them o and you want them to sell cheaper. They invested to make money for crying out loud. So you want them to please the government or citizens in the expense of there investment abi?

This government is not serious at all. They will just wake up from sleep and make some silly rules and statements. It's better they allow them be and we buy steadily at 145 than causing scarcity again. We are getting use to the hardship already.

Change is a SCAM. Buhari has entered into a swarm of worms. It's only a matter of time before the whole system will rot and decay

Why can't they set the template so that all stations be it mega or non mega can sell at a regulated price. We are tired of bad news, let the leaders compose themselves for once and give us good news jare

it's all about profits, profits and more profits

there is dis nnpc mega station in gwarimpa that is close to a total filling station

the mega station sells at 140 while the total at 145

almost everything time, one would notice long queues in front of the mega station while the pump attendants in total would be standing der idle waiting for people to come in

what is 5 naira dat dey cannot sacrifice for Nigerians. after all they have being exploiting us since

Re: Fuel Scarcity Looms Over Varying Fuel Pump Price- Mega Filling Station Owners by Nobody: 7:56am On Jun 15, 2016
Government should quit fixing pump price and leave market forces to work the price out. We will continue to run round in circles if government still maintains its smothering hold on the oil industry. Fuel queues are an eyesore in an oil producing nation like ours...it is time to make it a forgotten sight.
Re: Fuel Scarcity Looms Over Varying Fuel Pump Price- Mega Filling Station Owners by lorbah001(m): 7:57am On Jun 15, 2016
Yeah, the govt can regulate pricing but I think they need be flexible

I thought they said that the new price modulation would checkmate such issues. Already we have received news of the effect of the price hike on our inflation rate. It has spiked, due to the price hike. Government needs to start analazing all parameters of a policy before implementing it

Let them return all subsidies, money or otherwise, to qualify for N145.

The truth is that Kachikwu is minister without portfolio. That's the cause of all these yoyo policies.
"You give somebody a goat and you hold the rope, how can he go forward with the goat?"
Don't ask me why, but those in the industry will know better, that the 'minister of petroleum' is dumbly controlling behind a mask, and Kachikwu is loudly taking the bashing. Systems don't work well like that. He should be empowered like Fashola and see consistency and professionalism in the industry.
