Good morning my nairaland friends. I just made a startling discovery about the Nigeria Police enlistment application. I am a qualified lawyer but I applied for general duties since I couldn't find my profession under specialist. During application, the thought came to me to click 'others' since I couldn't find 'lawyer' as one of the options, but I brushed the thought aside on the grounds that if lawyers were meant to apply under specialist there would have been a provision among the options for lawyers.
I also noticed during the screening on the day I was screened that I was the only lawyer around. I checked the list of those screened that day and I didn't see anyone with an LLB and BL which are the requisite qualifications for lawyers. All I could see were Bsc, HND, etc.
I must say at this point I am exasperated having discovered that those who applied under general duties will spend 18 months in the Academy while specialists will spend just 6 months. I can't imagine another 18 months in police academy having spent 7 years qualifying as a lawyer plus the 1 year NYSC. Besides, I'm already billed to get married early next year after my heartthrob finishes her NYSC.
Since I already have a thriving practice in one of the top law firms in Nigeria, it seems I will just abandon this quest for enlistment into the Nigeria Police. The only reason I applied is because from childhood and undergraduate days, I always had a strong passion for joining the Police and pursuing a fulfilling career therein. Even my family thinks I am crazy to have applied and my fiancee almost ended our relationship when I told her I applied and was shortlisted. It was only God's intervention through my elder sister that got her to change her mind. My elder sister also told her I've not been enlisted yet. I am sure she will be praying earnestly for me not to be enlisted.
Please guys, is there anything I can do to convert my application to application for specialist enlistment? Because if I can't, I go just kukuma abandon the whole idea. I can't go and spend another 18 months in the Academy, doing what?
Thanks guys. Pardon my long epistle, I'm sure only serious minded people will read it. 1 Like 1 Share |

Not everybody that applied under General duties are just BSC or HND. Some are specialised too but they chose to go ahead with it cos of their chances of being selected and enlisted. We have the case like such in the Nigeria Army too. The good news for you is that you might be selected to go under Special as some courses were on the look-out for during the first screening which I know a particular PPRO was asking for those with LLB too in some particular states e.g Oyo, Ondo etc so I believe it's not over yet! Finally, I want to advice you bro to always hustle first in things; women are good especially a good and awesome wife but I don't think knot following your passion and life path because of a woman is ideal enough! You're the man here not her! You need to make things happen for your family which I believe she may be part of in the nearest future. #mycent 10 Likes |

Thanks guys. Pardon my long epistle, I'm sure only serious minded people will read it. The honest truth is that, you can't be recruited as a specialist since your online submission wasn't captured under that category. As the sorting is gonna be done by computer for "Specialist" application, just as it was done for "general" category, computer will be unable to capture your application from the "general" category and shortlist you under specialist. #myhonestopinion# |

Osun asp that did on 6/6/2016 go and submit your docs asap. Thanks Thanks Boss. I am not allowing my girlfriend to be the deciding factor. Her insistence on my not joining wouldn't have changed my decision. It would have only hurt to let her go but I would still have moved on. The deciding factor here is that I can't imagine going to spend another 18 months in Police Academy after all the years I've spent in school. Besides, withdrawing at this time wouldn't in any way hurt me financially in future. Like I said, I am enjoying a thriving legal practice which is sustaining me very well and has the potential for more financial success. |

What are you scared of the 18 months thing, afterall the 18 months comes with a monthly salary , so it's not bad after all and what is 18 months spent in police academy compared to a long term career goal you stand to acheive. And by the way I don't think they spend up to 18 months anymore, I know someone who joined during the last recruiment, she spent almost a year (12months) at the police academy |
