This is the normal speed I get from Mtn before they now reduced their price and it became slower. Normally I get 17mbps, but since the reduction in data price I've been getting like 8mbps. I just tested it this morning and I got 14mbps just like urs.

That app na just for advert. To get the real calculations, you'll have to download the paid version of that app.

The app works in calculating connection speed. U don't need a paid version. Moreover there are other speed test apps that give the same result.

SOME PEOPLE JUST THE TALK ANYHOW

grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

What you are seeing there my dear, is 14 Megabit and not Mega byte. There is a big difference between Megabyte(the one you used to subscribe) and Megabit (used for speed test)

Now get the calculation below:

8 bits = 1 Byte

8 bits * 1000 = 8 Kilobits (Kb) = 1000 Byte (B)

8Megabits (Mb) = 8000Kb (Kilobits), But,

1024 Bytes = 1 KB

1024 Kilobyte (KB) = 1 Megabyte (MB)

Thus, if

8 Megabit (Mb) = 1 Megabyte (MB), Then
14Megabits (Mb) = x Megabyte (MB)

X = (14 * 1)/8

X = 1.75Megabyte (MB)

So, the actually download speed you are having is 1.75MB or 14Mb.

The difference between these Byte and Bits is in the way it is written.

Bytes = B (capital letter - B)

Bits = b (small letter - b)

Eg.

Megabyte = MB

Megabits = Mb

It baffels me that people would come and be bragging that the have such a great download speed but still can't download a 10MB file in 2 seconds. Lol grin

I hope this helps. Don't get confused.

See how u are shooting urself. Yes we all know it is megabits, nobody said it was megabytes. Internet speer is measured in megabits per seconds, but u people always try to use download manager to test internet speed which is very wrong. U are only testing download speed and download speed depends on the bandwidth from the website u are downloading from. So let's say u are downloading file A from a website B with fast servers, ur download will be faster and u change download a 500mb worth of data in just 10 mins. But u can download the same file A from website C with weak servers and the download speed will be slow and u end up spending hours to download the file. So that is not the right way to measure internet speed.

Go online, check tech websites, whenever they wanna calculate internet speed they use mbps and not MB/s. Are u trying to say u know better than them? For a non 4g connection to be giving 16mbps it means it can download a file at 2MB/s at normal condition. However if the website u are downloading from has slow servers u might end up downloading at below 500KB/s. As at now only ntel can download files at speed as high as 5MB/s in Nigeria.

Internet browsing process is: sending data and receiving data. The speed at which the server responds is the download speed.

Correct me please.

Yes the speed at which the sever responds is download speed which is measured in Mbps. Using internet download manager to measure internet download speed is wrong as it depends on the sever which u are downloading from.

But what we all here are showing is not download managers but speed testers.

Yes speed test. My reply was for iveco who tried to claim speed test in mbps is not right. I'm sure he was expecting internet speed to be measured with download manager using MB/s.

guy you are also wrong whether you use Bps or bps its all the same.. its Just like using K/hr and M/hr or mM and cM and M all has the same magnitude in measurements. It all depends on the users choice/ understanding. e.g Americans standardize M/hr as dia official measure of speed while canada uses K/hr. people uses metric units of measurement while some in order to distinguish theirs from others uses imperial units. so it all from the individual understanding of the system. same magnitude different direction.
