There are people who disagree with the term "gender equality" and then go on to present their reasons in an intelligent way, but this one is just so shallow.

Why is gender in Nigeria always discussed within the context of marriage? Is that all there is to life?

“Relationships today are ending because women want to be men...”

Auntie, you're really one to talk about broken relationships. Were you not married three times before you married the Ooni? Typical Nigerian woman! Get married, put on a cloak of self - righteousness and judge others for the same things you used to do.

Please stick to being an appendage of a custodian of culture and tradition and leave public speaking alone.

It's the people that gave her microphone I blame sef. What was her qualification to give the speech? If I ran into this lady at the airport, I’d probably chat her up about the most recent Yoruba movies I saw on YouTube, definitely not world issues…

What next ? She’s going to share her opinion on climate change? Girl bye!

Ladies, if you pay your bills or the bills generally, have your own income source, mother your kids and still call him "lord" and treat him like the husband, you don't have to fight to be equal. You are already Superior.

This Edo ashewo better not bring gender inequality to the SW.

Yoruba women
1. Have been queens and ruling over kingdoms in the past

2. Get inheritance unlike their Ibo counterparts

3. Are deemed as equal opponents in politics

4. Are equally as educated as men in Yorubaland

5. Work hard just as men

6. Are equally as respected

You also need to grasp what she is really saying though. We are not equal granted, but we are equal partners. One cannot do without the other.
Has there been any doubts or different opinion to that?

You've never lived in Africa/Nigeria. I can tell. Women in Nigeria are often treated as slaves. A man could beat the living shiit outta a woman and nothing would happen. A man can decide tomorrow to tell his wife to leave his house for any reason imaginable and nothing would happen. Abi i lie?

Gender equality to me is anti-God & since it is anti-God it is very very satanic. God has made man to be the head, anything to the contrary is demonic & must be rejected in it's entirety. It is just a western propaganda to debase the order of creator.

Treated like pigs. Look at this olori that should talk and help the less privileged. No way. She should have kept quiet and focus on her african magic movie if she doesn't know what gender equality means.

true( except 3) but this is not the point.

Yoruba culture makes it clear that women and men have different roles. .. we are to complement eachother. .. what attention seeking women calling themselves feminists want is to compete with men

Yoruba culture is fair on women but you still see young rude girls say they can't cook...the man should go to the kitchen and cook, they can't sit back to nurse the children...they are tired; but expect a man who provides financial support regardless of their personal wealth, a man that protects them from harm.

any woman who can't cook gladly for her husband and children is no woman. .just as a man who can't provide for his wife and children is no man

A feminist is that full day housewife, a banker, a lawyer. A feminist is that woman that supports her man and vice versa, she is that virtuous woman. That is what I see as a feminist. we all have different roles. Just do it well.

Yea!yea!yea! Exactly What it is. Yhu said it all.
HaneefahRN:

That is all I can say. I'm tired of hearing such talks everyday. I have nothing against a man being the head in the home and family structure. And I respect the varying roles each gender plays in the family network.

But don't tell me I am below every, Tom, Dick and Harry cos they were born with di.cks and so gender equality is rubbish. Both gender should have equal opportunities in the Society. Be whatever you want to be, in a good way of course without being discriminated against.
She might see herself as inferior to men, but I don't

shame catch me for this woman.why would somebody want to be treated lesser than her fellow human? All these things men are using to brag, things they see as what makes them more superior to us.I don't see them as a big deal.Because some women are doing them with ease.what we want is for the law to give other women the opportunity to do so.Men we no dey drag head of the family with una,we just want our sisters to enjoy education like our brothers,we also want them to marry as adults not children just like our brothers. This is what we mean by gender equality, people should get this into their head and stop spewing thrash most especially those women who just say anything that enters their head in public just to get applauded by their fellow ignorant bigot
