@ Laeroy , I am not a sabi mama (na visiting levels for now), but I am on the slim side and currently on a weight gain mission too. I hv been chopping up seriously since I decided to start eating big big portions of food. It does not really matter what u eat incase u dont hv money for those special fattening foods mama Zaynie mentioned. Just eat it in big quantity! Try to eat such that ur tummy becomes big n potrudes sef! When u cant eat again, PLS STOP n then when ur tummy goes down in a few hours, find food to eat again! Just do this for like 2 days, U will see ur body filling out... I am a living testimony. My cheeks are fuller n my legs are less skinny now. Also see if u can get a liquid supplement called Wate On to help increase ur appetite n gv u fat/nutrients. And try to take afternun naps n sleep early at night. 2 Likes |

U need to reduce d stress especially if God bless wth u wth an attention seeking n beautiful baby. Also try to eat vegetables, fruits n follow ur baby 2 sleep( force am even if d sleep no gree enter, jst close ur eyes). jst look fresh dts all! U don't knw Hw many ppl r envying ur slim figure Abi na stature... 1 Like |

Hello Sabi mama's, I am a ftm, although I have followed the thread for a while and even commented once. My dd is 10weeks old and is on exclusive bm, I will resuming back to work in 2 weeks. I have been trying to introduce my dd to formula (NAN)for the past 2 days but she has consistently refused, my mum says the teats (Tommie tippee)of the feeding bottle is hard that is why she is rejecting it. Please I need advise on how best I can introduce formula to my dd before I resume, and if boiling the feeding bottle teats will make it soft as suggested by my mum. I am not so busty to even consider expressing for her because I have tried it in the past and nothing came out after using the pump for almost an hour. Pls Sabi mama's come to ma rescu o! |

Nickair: Tommie Tippie does feel hard to me and my mum also made the suggestion of boiling it to soften the teats but it didn't work. Dr Brown's is much softer however I don't know if the one they have in Nigeria is the same company as that of the U.S. How about brands like Mothercare and Chicco? Today we did our birthday shoot pictures! When the photographer showed me to review, I took one look at my fat face and decided on the spot that as from tomorrow, I was eating only air and water henceforth. I have gymed tire. I think I need Man-O'War. 5 Likes 1 Share |

hello supermoms Please I am a tad indecisive on which cereal to settle for (even though I know it hugely depends on the one baby likes) so please I would want those who have used the ones I will mention to give me their reviews about it. as it will help me in making my decision 1. Gerber oatmeal and banana cereals. 2. Cerelac (my mum-in-law was telling me its sugary and she doesn't really recommend it ) 3. nutrend (my husband took this as a baby and has been campaigning for it ) 4. I saw nutribom today at the supermarket. is it cool? Your reviews will help a great deal. thank you |

Laeroy: Why dont you try and get someone to help you with the house chores. In my opinion, apart from dishes and cooking. All the sweeping, dusting and mopping can be done once or twice a week. Also while the help is around doing the housework, if you have any starching/ spreading or packaging then they can help with that as well. Get a good footmat by the entrance doors and everyone should kindly remove their shoes by the mat to reduce sand and dirt from outside I assume you dont cook from scratch every day as well. If you dont already, Make a food timetable that you will try to follow most days this will give you a bit of structure so you can plan ahead and save time. If you make your main sauces, stews and soups during the weekend and pop into the freezer so on the day its to make the swallow/ rice or whatever and warm the soup. I find being organised foodwise saves me a lot of stress and time during the week. I try to simplify my cooking by a great deal and i always have a "lazy-oven-food-day" about once every 2 weeks when i just grab pre-prepared food and whack in the oven, set my timer, cross my legs and usually in an hour or so dinner is served. - no standing over a fire, stirring and turning..... 1 Like |

Momtozee, I believe you have the answer to your question, read all the food labels you can, compare notes if you want then settle on trying a particular brand ,flavor or cereal with your baby, if she goes for it then voila! At the time I started my baby on Gerber rice cereal first I introduced it by adding some to enfamil formular it was very well taken, I tried feeling same Gerber rice with a bowl and spoon and it was a no no. So it was with nutrend cerelac and no I ended up wasting my hard earned cash. I tried again at 12months and cerelac passed, so just follow ya little lady's lead. 1 Like |

Nickair: I am not a fan of Tommy Tippee. Can you look for other shapes of teat? Sometimes, it might be the teat shape and not the texture. Also, you can try a different approach. Don't be around when your baby is being bottle fed. Leave it for your mum to do and don't give her breast no matter how hard she cries. If not, she will think that as long as she protests long enough, she will get what she wants. BM is sweeter than formula. 1 Like |

ahnie: GBAM!!!! I rest my case... All stand!!! Most of our doctors n nurses will tell us some stuffs during immunization but pratise d opposite in their various homes. I caught a nurse giving her new born Eva water 2 drink while she's usually d one dt will scream even d deaf will hear her dt EXCLUSIVE BREASTFEEDING WTHOUT WATER IS THE BEST! I made up my mind dt I must give my baby water to drink while exclusively breastfeeding her. U need 2 see my baby's skin sooo glowing n looking plumpy wen I took her 4 immunization. The matron asked me if she was on formula, I said no dt she's on breast milk n water only. She gave me d thumbs up finger. Imagine u as an adult, u r very thirsty n u get a bottle of coke or ice cream or even drink yoghurt, will it quench ur thirst? Then, som1 will tell me dt my breast milk contains water dt will quench my baby's thirst. I'm nt anti-critical exclusive ooo. I jst want 2 mk common sense( in Ben Bruce voice) 13 Likes |

sassyangel1: My mother's meeting-lady had a grandchild in the U.S. the girl listened to a lot of people who encouraged her to give her EBF baby water and she gave her baby a lot of water. When the child was admitted for Water Toxicity, she cried her eyes out and worse, Child Protection Services removed the child from the parents and kept the baby in foster care until they could hire a lawyer and prove that they were fit to be parents. All the people who advised water, nothing happened to their babies. To all the mothers reading this, because it worked for my child without no side effects doesn't mean it will work for your child. I know people who gave their babies honey and their children are perfectly fine. But a mother came here and stated that her baby died from Botulism Posioning from honey. Which is why doctors forbid Honey. They don't want you to be that one bad case. My siblings are Consultant Paeditricians and lecturers and practice. My mum has her own age-old wisdom but she still runs it by then first before she tells me. My mum believes in Gripe water and I have my newborn the organic version then decided to stop. Each child is different. I was given the go-ahead to allow my baby drink follow-up milk at 10 months (because she drank no formula) because they knew I would be anal about feeding her nutritiously (i gave her calcium-rich foods as substitutes). They judged my case according to me and what they knew of me and my child. When my baby was badly constipated, they asked me "I HOPE YOU ARE NOT GIVING HER ANY DRUGS?" Because another sibling is a pharmacist (worked here and in thr UK, plenty experience) and they didnt want her to prescribe for me. We sorted it out sans drugs. Does everyone has such luxury? Isn't it safer to play by the rules? The reason I don't like answering here and the reason my siblings refused to come help on this thread, is because they cannot see the mother and child. So they cannot intuitively understand them kind of person they are dealing with. Which is why we say a lot here "take your Baby to the hospital", the baby's doctor sees you and the child and can judge what is best. Please, every parent here should henceforth make the decision to give their child whatever they want. 24 Likes |

goldenruby: Trust your instincts. I have said no to a lot of things and they turned out to be the right answer. I have said yes I a lot of things and they turned out to be the right answer. At the end of the day, I and every mother here will not sit down with you and cry if anything happens. There was a mum I read her here asking about medicine, I asked my siblings to give me advise to pass onto her because she had gone twice to the hospital and not gotten good answers. The reason I ask people to search for old answers on this thread is so one can read what other people's doctors told them and make an informed decision based on several years of past and present posters, and not just listen to whoever is loudest on the thread at that particular time. Even Babycentre that they quote here, has different countries: on Babycentre.co.uk they are fine with giving cheese and eggs from 6 months. On Babycentre.com, they follow U.S. guidelines and give all EBF infants Vitamin D because their parents' diet is not rich in meats to pass enough through breastmilk (we in Naija eat meat with every meal so I stopped once I got back). Babycentre India gives food suggestions with spices. So the best answer for a Nigerian child is usually from a Nigerian doctor (who knows what Red Acalypha is, and understands that Agbo of today is not made the same careful way as Agbo of the past). Like Zaynie said, my pikin knows me and I know her. 7 Likes |
