Naira could still fall to as low as N700 to the dollar, but this in essence could help spur industrialisation and bring about the very much needed boost to local production, of course with the right policy frameworks.

The only downside is without basic infrastructures like power and good road network, the economic recovery could be much slower than it should be.

Hopefully government realises this and place greater emphasis on infrastructural development, rather than investing billions in the ridiculous search for oil in the Lake chad Basin.

But thinking of the bigger picture, I'd say the biggest risk would be the damage incurred in the transition period. The future however is potentiall very prosperous.

Whagt happened was just a paaanic reaction to wednesday announcement. The pprice will start going up by wednesday

lol... it will go up and even CBN said there will be a spike but after the spike there will be a crash because dollars will be surplus. you didn't even the masterpiece written by Fawehimi, a man with deeper knowledge of the dynamics of this thing and he also reiterated that there will be a spike and then crash.

Fuel prices is gradually crashing already and I saw a filling station selling their for 135 just yesterday.

Same thing will happen here just like it happened with the telecom.

lol...the dollars will rise to 400 on monday follow by a continous rise for 3 weeks whike cbn clears the debt at that high rate but after that, the dollars will collapse but still settle at the rate of 420 naira where it will remain for at least 1yr

your analysis of 420 to dollar does not hold water

I need expert analysis about this issue of forex. Why do the currency of each country differs. Why not have a single currency with the same value.
To me, this will solve the problem of having to change ones local currency before you can buy from abroad. Some countries are just playing superior to other countries simply because they rely on importation.
Expert in the house, please illuminate me on it.

Naira officially devalued.
IMF commendation has confirmed that.
Unfortunately, the Naira isn't available. Frightening times ahead.

Unfortunately, in order to create wealth, you need jobs. Jobs come from investments, usually from developed countries. Look at the evolution of China.

Yes, they will exploit your country but with the right policy environment, you will attract a lot of investments and employ millions of people.

I wonder why some people are applauding this gross incompetence on the part of the government and cbn. As far back as last year, some of us have advocated for the removal of oil subsidies and flexible exchange rate as the lesser devil and best option to our dwindling economy. But PMB and CBN stubbornly refused to listen to this simple economy solution and wasting billions of dollars in the past one year to support their foolishness and ego. It is rather ironic and sad that a lot of people who castigated us last year for daring to suggest solution that are contrary to PMB, S body language are now applauding the policies he co condemned a year ago. This is a lesson to all of us that you don, t play politics with everything. Facts and figures don, t lie. THERE WILL SURELY BE DIFFICULT TIMES AHEAD AND THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO TAKE MORE SURGICAL STEPS TO MANAGE THE ECONOMY IN COMING MONTHS. THIS IS THE TIME FOR PMB TO ADMIT THAT HE NEEDS TO APPOINT COMPETENT AND SINCERE PEOPLE TO MANAGE OUR ECONOMY. LET HIM CONCENTRATE ON HIS AREA OF STRENGTH...

Very unlikely, it will go as low as N700... There will be a low and then an appreciation... The economist predicted between 285- 360, CBN predicts as low as 250.... Either way, it will go down...

The government has already budgeted billions for infrastructural development in the 2016, the highest in our history...

If you're expecting the new open market policy to push up the naira against the dollar ,then you are on a long thing, the multinational corporations responsible for the rise wouldn't want to stop making their profit hence they'll device a way to induce scarcity

Is like you read my little economic mind, I have always said that some cabal ll never allow it work as stipulated atificial scarcity will be the order of the day beside, BC members will be the parallel market thou is a nice and laudable policy but implementation to take away the bad egg from the good ones will be the greatest challenges.

God bless nigeria

You people should please consider those of us doing annual 'adache' 'ajo' or contribution. Why is it that this economic jagajaga usually erupt whenever It is my turn to collect? Naira usually nose- dive with government policy when it is my turn. I am not an economist but remember lay men also have project to finance. It seems the exchange rate policies usually target the time of my collection of annual contribution. This is how this economic hullabaloo affects me. It is unfair.

Optimistic that it Naira would stabilize at 250 to a dollar?
That, to me, isn't cheery enough.
I'll only be happy when naira gets to be 150 to a dollar. That's the exchange rate I've always had in my subconsciousness!

That to me is dream but will have love it too but how realistic? One of the realisation to that dream is local production, increase in export of locally made product, reduction in imported goods, and above all govt polices both monetary police and fiscal policy the two must be interwoven
