Thanks a million......

I was advise to get a MPPT change controller when i went out to source for the panels & controller today. please whats the basic difference bw the PWM and MPPT controllers?
Re: How To Install Solar Panels & Inverter For Home-step By Step Guide by SolnergyPower: 7:50am On Apr 26, 2016
MPPT controllers offer a potential increase in charging efficiency up to 30% and they're more expensive than PWM.

PWM charge controllers have been around for ages and rely on old technology. They work to match the voltage of the panel to battery voltage and pulls down the panel output voltage in doing so.

As you make more power from your existing solar panels you generate more electricity which ultimately translates into savings for you. I recommend that you go for MPPT charge controllers instead of PWM even though they are a little expensive because you will be able to recover the difference in price in no time.

I made reference to you using the PWM because of less cost because your solar set up is also a bit small.

Nice one op, i want to believe that any inverter rating you buy is a function of rating of charge controller and battery connection. My question now is that how does one know or measure the charging rate from solar panel to the charge controller because most solar panel are rated in power. Please i need education about this. Thanks
Re: How To Install Solar Panels & Inverter For Home-step By Step Guide by SolnergyPower: 9:14am On Apr 27, 2016
This is the order. Solar Panels >>>Batteries>>>Inverter. So inverters do not depend on solar panels. Rather, batteries do.

Solar Panel Charge Calculation
Power = Current x Voltage. Energy = Power x Time. So your 12V battery of 150Ah needs 1800Wh of energy (12 x 150). So a 25W PV panel would need 72 hours at full output (1800Wh/25W).

For a more accurate answer, you need a lot more information.

The output of the panel at any moment will depend on:

(1) the voltage, (which will be determined by the battery, and will change as the battery charges)

(2) the ambient temperature, and

(3) the amount light hitting the panel. The amount of light hitting the panel will depend on panel tilt, orientation, overshading, weather, altitude, location, time of year, time of day.

SolnergyPower:
Question:

I suffer more than 12 hours power cut per day, Normal inverters could not get full charge with this severe power cuts,

I want to go for Solar inverter,

My load preference is 1 Fan, 3 CFL’s (compact fluorescent light, energy-saving light) and 1 LCD Tv.

Could you guide me on installing a Solar inverter set up at affordable cost?

Answer:

I Appreciate your interest on solar green energy. Hopefully it will be the future of power back up industry.

For a Limited budget, I could suggest you best possible and cost effective configuration.

I am 100% sure that SOLAR inverter is the only solution for growing power cut problems.

So sit back while I walk you through how to set up a small solar power for your home

Here are the materials we will need to do this set up.

a. Inverter (850VA-1KVA).......40-45k
b. One 200-250w Solar Panel.....40-60k
c. One 12V 100AH Deep Cycle Battery....30-40k (You may use two car batteries here but must be connected in parallel)
d. 12V Charge Controller....10-15k
e. Battery Stand, you may improvise this.

Total: Between 120k and 160k

Course Outline:
a. Mount your solar panel
b. Connect your charge controller
c. Connect Battery to Inverter
d. Connect Battery to Charge Controller
e. Load your house.

I will provide details shortly about this course.

Op you said car 2 car batteries connected in parallel can also be used. but my question is; how effective are these car batteries?. 2. which name of car battery is d best and how much does it cost?
Re: How To Install Solar Panels & Inverter For Home-step By Step Guide by SolnergyPower: 1:00pm On Apr 28, 2016
I only suggested car batteries to save cost. Deep cycle batteries are the best.

You may ask any car battery seller or driver or a mechanic for the best brand in the market.

This is an interesting thread.
Please I want to ask, is there no one standalone solution such as inverter + controller + battery ? As in one machine.

zinox technologies iPowerPlus inverters come inbuilt with mppt solar charge controllers but batteries come separately . you can find companies that have the full items for sale be it inverters batteries panels and lot.

Conversation in this tread is really useful, trust me.

@solnergypwer, please I have a similar question like the person that asked the last question.

I have a 2.4kVA Inverter, running on 2pcs 200AH batteries in series {24v}. Public power supply has really drop drastically in my area, so I now use my gen to charge my batteries almost all the time and as the last person said, I am also not smiling with this new development.

- Please, what Solar panel (Wattage) and Charge Controller rating do i need to effectivly charge my batteries.
- Using my 2.4kva inverter, I will also like to know if I can increase my 200AH batteries to 4pieces still in 24v series.

Thanks

What is the difference in using a 12/200ah Battery and a combination of 2v/500ah batteries. for an installation.
Re: How To Install Solar Panels & Inverter For Home-step By Step Guide by SolnergyPower: 10:13am On Nov 05, 2016
Solar Panels and Charge Controller for a 2.4KVA 24V Inverter.

1. Four pieces of 250W solar panels. If you can have the configuration of a voltage above 30V, it would be better.
2. 24V Solar Charge Controller.

If you want to expand your battery bank, connect the extra two batteries to get 24V and then connect them in PARALLEL to the first get.

PLEASE if you're adding the extra batteries on your own, also get a multimeter to test the voltages of your new connected batteries before adding them to the old connection. You may have to disconnect the batteries from the inverter first before adding the 2nd set.

When you're done, please test the batteries combination voltage before adding the inverter.

Please wrong connection of the batteries can damage your inverter and in extreme cases, you could get hurt if the batteries explode.

Please have an adult companion while you work.

I have a question please, I got this 1KVA Inverter without considering the output. I thought all Inverters can output up to 220V but I was wrong. So by the time the lnverter got to me I realized it can only output up to 120V meanwhile most of our devices here in Nigeria work from 200 volts though some stuff can still work within 110-120V. Now how can I make my Inverter output up to 220V for me? It's a Sunforce product that I got from Amazon.

rewind the coil or change the transformer from 110volt to 220v

Thanks for your response. Someone suggested I used a step up transformer externally and not touch the device's board to change the onboard transformer. What can you say about this?

Charge the inverter? I don't understand. Also, can a step down transformer raise the output to 220V?

Many thanks @SolEnergy...
pls I have a question. Is there anything wrong with getting two 300watts mono panel with a 30A PWM charge controller for a 3kva 12V inverter which uses 2 batteries connected in parallel. Also, would there be any difference for the same scenario, but for 4 batteries connected in parallel?

SolnergyPower:
Here is what you need.

1. PWM Solar charge controller (24v, 30 amp)

2. 2 x 250 watts Poly-crystalline solar panels. Mono-crystalline solar panels would have been better though more expensive.

250w solar panel is not enough to charge a 200ah adequately
let's do some mathematics
a battery is 12v 200ah= 2400wh
the battery can only give u 80% of it's life span which is 80% of 2400=1920wh
in Ibadan we've 4hours of good sun
so divide 1920/4= 480w
if u use 250w it will take close to 8hrs to charge a battery full

nothing is wrong with using 2 300watts mono panel but for the four batteries you will need more panels and also use mppt controller instead of pwm,
what spoils the battery most is inadequate charging so therefore you need more panels the more the better

and four batteries connected in parallel are u sure the charger in the inverter might be able to charge the battery in case you want to use electricity

behind the inverter there are two major outlet input and output
the input is what charges the inverter and u bring the wire from the mains of the house while the output is the one that supplies the house from the Inverter
Buh it better to call a tech to avoid you damaging the inverter
