18% Of Anambra Children Suffer From Malnutrition - NGO by MayorofLagos(m): 5:12am On Jun 20, 2016
Tony Okafor, Awka

At least 18 per cent of Anambra State children under the age of five suffer from stunted growth as a result of malnutrition, the Civil Society Scale-up Nutrition in Nigeria, Anambra State chapter, said on Friday in Awka, the state capital.

In a press briefing by the Local Working Group Coordinator of the NGO, Dr. Moses Ohamaeme, the organisation said a survey conducted in the South-East showed that Anambra State has the worst record in child malnutrition.

Ohamaeme said cases of malnutrition were severe among children with low milk consumption, whose mothers had limited knowledge of its importance.

He added that malnourished babies had a higher risk of dying in infancy and would likely face lifelong cognitive challenges, leading to poor academic performance and other chronic health problems.

He explained that malnutrition in children would manifest in the forms of waisting (low weight for height), stunting (low height for age), and underweight (low weight for age).

He said he wondered why this was so in Anambra State despite the abundant human and material resources available in the area.

There is no need to try argue over anything.
The poster of this news is trying hard to give a particular region/state a bad name. That is the subtle intent.
But 18% is not so bad, we know that there are regions/states outside the south east with higher percentage (maybe even up to 40-50%) of malnourished children.

What I see here is a lesson to other states with higher percentages of malnourished kids.
If Anambra has over the years been able to reduce the percentage of malnourished children to 18%, it means that they can reduce it further. So other States with higher percentages should work at reducing their percentage also.

At least water is life and my brain will do good with a lot of it. That's just an article from Punch and u are here ranting like a Dog infested with Rabies. Everyhting is about North this North that and yet it is the same Almajiris, illiterates as u call them that rule you and make you guys shout marginalisation. Isn't it so shameful that these Almajiris and illiterates even deny you Biafra so much so that you cry everyday here that your region is forsaken? Dude, calm down. Don't let your myopic sense of reasoning get the better part of you. Take some water and cool your brain with it. Imagine a Brain devoid of water...it becomes dust left at the mercy of a gusty wind. #word! You are ur own enemy, stop looking beyond ur nose to see that ur enemy lies within!

Malnutrition is in all corners of Nigeria... but definitely, the South east does not have the highest percentage.

I cant believe this but if this true it can be related to unavailability of time because business every time every time. But sincerely northern children eat worse than any place í have seen. Even their rich don't know how to combine food.

Word oro nla. What baffles me is most is their inability to comprehend. The research is about kids below 5years and they are year screaming almajiri. I don't blame them since they either slept their way through school or bribed through.
