No bank will charge for that.

Good evening guys,
I have accounts with different banks(firstbank &Gtbank).I receive sms from my banks each time there is an anniversary e.g. my birthday or Christmas, at the end of the month I get charged for the same sms they send to me on my birthday or new year.
Now my question is, I'm I supposed to be charged for an sms sent to me on my birthday from my bank or is it right for the bank to charge me for the same sms?
I just want to know so I can tell my bank to stop sending me sms on my birthday which I end up paying for.

What sort of nonsense is this? I'm not a Nigerian but I do have a Nigerian bank account.

So are you telling me your birthday is every month? The sms you are charged for is Credit/Debit notifications not Birthday messages. As long as you have received one credit or debit alert you would be charged or other sms such as OTP, etc. . You would be charged. Not for your birthday.

Unless of course, your account is a dead account where no transaction takes place.
You have comprehension problem. He said birthday and other anniversaries like Easter, Christmas, Independence day etc

How about sms for failed transactions and the reversals? Failed transactions and the reversals are no fault of the customer.

My dear, the First bank issue is alarming, do you know they calculate sms charges as debit transaction on accounts so they don't pay u interest. Had a bad experience with dem, I keep money I no touch am, yet I get different alert for things I don't need, then at the end of the month no interest; went to ask and they said I had more than 3 debits, I open mouth ask how dem say na sms debits. I just lost it and transferred my money to diamond bank. Then the funniest thing happened ; after moving the money with plenty fight with manager and teller. Interest was paid on the 12th day of the month after 3 months with interest.
I just laughed in Spanish, nack dust comot for nyash dey waka go. Byebye to firstbank.... rubbish people

Bros, count the number of credit and debit transactions on your account for the period you were charged and multiply it by 4. Compare it to the amount you were charged and let me know the difference. Without this all I can say is you are very wrong.

Firstbank does. I had to go to them to de-activate my sms subscription and gimme e-mail alerts only.

If u didn't perform any transaction in ur FBN account in a month, they'll still charge u d minimum of #16 for SMS. 1. For notifying u ur month end balance. 2. For credit interest (which might be in Kobo...lol) 3. for tax deducted in d credit interest. 4. For ur balance at d beginning of d month.

First bank turned to a corporate thief overnight.

Dis OP is high on kwale weed!!!.....so banks charge for every message abi?...guy na lie....its only transactional messages that you are charged on!!!
For those of you calling the OP a liar, i pity you guys. Sometimes it's best to keep quiet when we are not sure bout some issues on ground.
I have two first bank accounts and the last time any transaction was carried out on either was 4yrs ago, my last visit to Nigeria. But first Bank of Nigeria keeps deducting money from my accounts monthly or once in two months, and they call it SMS charges...SMS for what?
I got fed up once and sent them an email to please deactivate the sms alerts 'cause the phone number they send those alerts to is probably owned by someone else now.

They asked i should provide some documents from the Embassy and stuffs grin, i had to give up 'cause the requirements were much.

The deductions have not stopped. Besides, those accounts are not linked to a BVN. Why the transactions ?

Op knows what he is saying, i hope these banks see this thread and do something about it...it's really not cool

do you receive sms transaction alert through your phone? if yes, that means the SMS for your birthday was not charged. However if you do not receive SMS transaction alert on your phone and you are charged for birthday SMS. Kindly go to your bank and complain

your so funny, I keep records of all transactions I make each month and I don't celebrate my birthday every month. If you read it correctly I included other anniversaries...first bank do charge me for such sms,
That may be where the real problem is; I don't think GTB does that. The only problem may be that you're being overcharged for SMSes received - I have observed that with different banks.
