     My major breakthrough in revenue did not come in my farming business until i started making use of modern technology in my business.

In my early days in agricbusness,i know there is need to do things differently from the ways our old generations are doing this agricbusiness to be able to get a better result.
    I have had the priviledge to speak with ten of thousands of farmers and potential agro-preneur this season who have the passion to create wealth for themselves but dont know how to.
Why is it that farming have come to be associated with old,poor personality in Nigeria than other farmers in other countries like US,Neitherland,Brazil etc
   The old,poor farmer are now being diminished and replaced with new generation of young,richer farmers.The side of the coin you may find yourself depend on your approach,how you are able to innovate and do things differently
 I personally believe that every entrepreneur involve in any value chain of agriculture should be a multimillionaire if not a billionaire.
   With over 170 million Nigerians to eat everyday,how on earth do we still have poor farmers,it boils down to 2 things which are lack of adequate knowledge of modern ways of farming or inappriopriate use of it and lack of sales/marketimg structure
   I once made loss cultivating some 30hectares of land in my early days in maize farming; i made the mistake of not making concrete soil test for the farmland. Mere looking at the soil and positive recommendations from local farmers cultivating in the location, i thought we can cultivate maize.We went ahead and started the cultivation.
  To cut my story short,we applied the wrong fertiliser at the wrong quantity and our target for the harvest was so poor.
If i had done proper soil test,our result would have been excellent and reduce some of the wastage.
    I just acquired 1,000 acres of farmland with the aim of acquiring up to 7,000acres in the next 2 years (all will be acquired through the revenue that will be generated through plantain farming).One of the revolutions in plantain farming is the use of cultured hybrid suckers which prevent disease outbreak,produce good yield,uniform harvesting, etc.Its a game changer for my plantain business as more revenue are being generated.
On 1 acre which can contain 1000 suckers at a time will produce 1000 plantain bunches at a harvest with the use of cultured hybrid suckers.
    I remember sometime ago when i produce about 100 tons of cassava tuber with my friend on some acres of land;we contacted a flour company who is willing to buy our cassava but on getting to the factory, we were told that our tubers was low in starch content reducing the value of our tubers.We were paid a peanut at the end of the transaction.
Before i knew we planted “Oko iyawo”( it is a name for a local variety of cassava),it was late and we have to let it grow.
Since then i have switched to TME variety which is very high in starch content.
I was asked by one of my traineee last week in a seminar that i should talked about sales and marketing in agribusiness.
   Sales of agric products is not an issue;with over 170millions of Nigeria consuming everyday,anything you take to the market will be bought and consume but the issue for agropreneurs is selling at a profitable price.
As an agro-preneur,if my cost of producing a plantain bunch is #500,it will not be business wise to sell at that price or below it.You can sell any agric products but at what profitable price?
If you know the local market will not be able to buy more than #500 per bunch,then you have to find or create a profitable market thats willing to buy at a price higher than that amount.
You should also know what the market needs,how should you produce what the market needs,

yes,its possible in a perfect case scenario; right farmland,effective cost management,proper farm management and right team.
