Why are we not considering these two for our olympics team? DONE DEAL: AS ROMA SNAP UP UMAR SADIQ AND NURA ABDULLAHI By Aanu Adeoye The Nigerian youngsters spent last season on loan at the Giallorossi, and the Italian club has now confirmed their signings on permanent deals Italian club AS Roma have announced the signing of Nigerian duo Umar Sadiq and Nura Abdullahi from Spezia on four- year contracts each. Sadiq and Abdullahi both spent last season on loan with Roma's Primavera squad in the Italian youth league, helping Alberto De Rossi's side to win the Italian championship. Roma have now confirmed they have exercised the option to sign both youngsters permanently, paying €2.5 million for each player. The 19-year-old Sadiq made his first team debut in November away at Bologna, scoring his first senior goal in a 2-0 win over Genoa in December. The highly rated striker scored twice in six appearances for the senior side last term. Abduallahi made 18 appearances last term for the Primavera, scoring two goals from his right back position. The duo was discovered by Kaduna- based Future Africa Football Academy and then transferred to Football Academy, Abuja, where they were sighted by scouts during a tour of Europe. 1 Like 1 Share |

amagunnerfan: Our fall had to do with us losing Westerhoff. I think that is where we lost it. Westerhoff had a working system and encouraged competition. He was not scared to introduce a talented home based player to displace a top professional. We won the AFCON in '94, had a good World Cup. Why not keep him. Westerhoff would have kept the Super Eagles hungry for titles. Coach Westerhoff left and the Hunger died. |

Sadiq Umar is in the US Camping list..... http://owngoalnigeria.com/2016/06/17/roma-sadiq-umar-threathens-liverpools-awoniyi-olympic-hopesapplies-for-us-visa/ Reports said he was processing his US Visa with a view to joining up with the team when the time comes in Atlanta, USA. I will like to see him displace an off-color Awoniyi and even kick out Junior Ajayi.... Thankfully, Success was included too. Mickael2: |

Kelechi Iheanacho pulls out of the Olympics The Man City striker has agreed to stay with the Blues rather than head off to Rio with Nigeria for the Olympics in August. Kelechi Iheanacho will focus on forcing his way into Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team after the Blues decided not to let the player go to the Olympic Games. The 19-year-old striker was invited to join the Nigeria squad for the Rio games, with the football tournament starting in August. But City were under no obligation to release him, and with Guardiola taking the reins on July 1, he asked that every available player should take part in pre-season. With players who progress in Euro 2016 and the Copa America already due to arrive back late, the Blues are keen to have as much as possible of their squad fully fit. City are understood to have spoken extensively with Iheanacho, who is on holiday in Nigeria. He wanted to represent his country, but is said to have fully understood City’s position, and is also aware of the need to show Guardiola what he can do. With new players due to join the squad – Nolito and Leroy Sane remain strong possibilities – Iheanacho recognised the importance of being in the squad from the start. The Olympic tournament, which is for Under-23 players, starts on August 3, which would mean Iheanacho missing a big chunk of pre-season as well as the summer tour of China. If they progress from their group, Iheanacho would have been away for the start of the Premier League season. And if they reached the medal positions – and Nigeria won silver in 2008 – he would miss at last the first leg of the Blues’ Champions League play-off. This article first appeared in the Manchester Evening News www.naijiant.com/sports/kelechi-iheanacho-pulls-olympics/ |

That's very true. The worst that could happen is Both Nacho and Success joining the U-23s late.... and I mean very late since both are already proven young talents. But that won't happen.... Nacho needs to get going under a new manager who is largely regarded as the best coach in the world today. And Success needs to hit the ground running ahead of life in the world's most competitive and most watched league. So we work with Our Best for Rio without Nacho and Success. Iwobi could still be available as he is already in Wenger's plans and Wenger already knows what he can do and is fully aware of his potentials. Iwobi's case is different because he isn't getting a new manager. In Messi's case in 2008, Messi just finished his 3rd full season with Barca. He was 21 then. But Nacho is 19 and just finished his first full season with Man City. The difference is clear. So in attack, I hope to see the likes of Sadiq Umar step up and be counted. If Siasia is fair, I see Sadiq Umar gate-crashing into the final squad for Rio. With Success' absence, I also think taking Ighalo won't be a bad idea coz I can't count on Ubong Ekpai and Junior Ajayi leading our attack biko.... I don't even wanna see them on the final list for Rio. The likes of Imoh Ezekiel, Simon Moses, etc should provide good attacking wingplays. In all, With the availability of our other top U-23 talents in other positions added to the ones above, I feel we will cope just fine without Alien kid Iceman "Nacho" and Isaac "The Beast" Success......... P.S: I will personally miss them though. TheGoodJoe: 1 Like |

AF EXCLUSIVE: Monaco begin transfer talks for Nigeria Olympic skipper AfricanFootball.com can exclusively reveal French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco have opened discussions for Nigeria U23 captain Azubuike Okechukwu. The 19-year-old midfielder is currently signed on to Yeni Malatyaspor in the Turkish PTT1 League, but following an impressive debut season in Europe, he is now a target for several European clubs, with Monaco understood to be ahead of the queue. AfricanFootball.com has been informed that the French outfit have opened discussions with Malatyaspor, after failing with an initial bid during the January transfer window. “There are a lot of clubs who have shown interest in him, but Monaco are in the forefront and have even opened discussions with his present club,” a source confirmed. Godwin Obaje you mean.... And yeah... he's good. Same as Blessing Eleke. Eleke especially hasn't gotten a Call-Up since the time Siasia invited him but injury stopped him. But here is the sad news for these guys if true. I read Siasia has already submitted a provisional 35-man list he cut out from the initial 60. Siasia don't intend going with 60 to Atlanta. That will be overkill sef.... lol Don't know how true the 35-man list news is but Africanfootball.com or Owngoalnigeria.com carried the news. One of them did. Heard Musa Mohammed is already in Abuja. Same as Viv Solomon Otabor... and a few others. Siasia doesn't have a team yet.... yet he is still holding out for guys like Junior Ajayi and Ubong Ekpai. iffa catch them on that list Ehn.... Iheanacho should be ruled out of the olympics... But I. Success can still make the olympics.. The lad is yearning to be at rio.. His transfer to Watford in no way compromises his chance... He can team up with watford after the olympics.. forget the preseason ish... with or without preseason success is guaranteed play time at Watford... If success had left for watford in January wouldn't he play?.. My main problem is that Siasia has never really rated success.. ofcourse success isnt messi but he is arguably the best in his position naija got in this age grade ... I got some info that siasia initially never had success in his plans for Rio... Now that is worrisome.. Maybe this transfer ish is all Siasia ever needed to ditch him.. By and large, if siasia isnt comfortable working with success.. thats ok.. he is the coach.. but he should deliver.. For the Records.. .. If Success does not make the olympic team, it isnt because he had a transfer to Watford but perhaps siasia always had an illfeeling about success boarding the plane to Rio.. and consequently never pushed for his release.. - 1 Like |

Nigeria to cap Akpom, Odubajo in September reveals top official Arsenal Striker Chuba Akpom Nigeria could cap Arsenal youngster Chuba Akpom and Hull City defender Moses Odubajo as early as in September ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers the following month, a top official has hinted AfricanFootball.com Both players have represented England at age-group levels, but they are eligible to play for Nigeria at full international level now. Nigeria will play a final qualifier for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations on September 4 at home against Tanzania and that could be when both players will get their call-ups. The NFF earlier this year got Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi to switch allegiance from England to Nigeria, and is set to do the same with Odubajo and Akpom. “We are close to getting Moses Odubajo and Chuba Akpom to play for Nigeria,” the official told AfricanFootball.com “We are especially excited at the prospect of Odubajo, as he plays in the right-back position which has been a problem for us over the years.” Odubajo, 22, plays as a right-back or right-forward for Hull City and helped them return to the Premier League at the close of the last season. He has represented England at youth level, but he is yet to feature at senior level for The Three Lions, making him eligible for Nigeria. It is a similar case with Akpom, 20, who is with Arsenal but spent the last season on loan at Hull City. The striker has played for England at youth levels, but is yet to be fully capped at senior level, which means he is eligible for the Super Eagles. To be frank Ehn.... I don't think Nigeria needs Akpom. Check out Nigeria's Options in the centre forward position: (present and near future) -Odion Ighalo -Brown Ideye -Isaac Success (yet to be capped) -Victor Osimhen (we saw him at U-23 level) -Sadiq Umar (yet to be capped) -Aminu Umar (some don't even know he is a CF) -Kelechi Iheanacho (anytime any day a whiz player in the CF or SS or false 9/AMF roles.. beast player). -Aaron Samuel -Fanendo Adi (yet to be capped) So how is Akpom ahead of any of the above listed players?... The NFF should not waste time with Akpom please. Can they just focus more on Odubajo, Dominic Iorfa, Ehizibue, Ebuehi, And even Adarabioyo and Kigbu? These are defensive options and defence is Nigeria's archilles heel now. We are well stocked for the next 10 yrs plus in attack and more will still rise and keep rising.... Besides, he didn't consider us all this while till now because he knows he got no chance with England in the long run. Akpom may eventually agree to play for us but he finds himself behind so many of the above listed players talents-wise. terzurum5: |
