Versatile Super Eagles Defender Abdullahi Shehu Has First Training Session With Dream Team Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that União da Madeira defensive midfielder Abdullahi Shehu started training with the Dream Team VI on Wednesday evening ahead of their trip to the United States, where they will hold a training camp before the Olympic Games. The former Kano Pillars star was one of the foreign-based players that applied for an American visa last Thursday and returned with the squad to the hotel after the trip to the embassy, only to leave moments later. But Shehu returned to camp today in time for the start of this evening’s training session that was held at the National Stadium in Abuja. With coach Samson Siasia expected to name only 18 players in his squad list for the Olympic Games, the 23-year-old is a sure bet to make the manager’s roster as he offers versatility, having played as a right-back, center-back and defensive midfielder in his career. In addition, he caught the eye during the Super Eagles last two international friendlies against Mali and Luxembourg. Ifeanyi Emmanuel http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=19514 |

Coach Siasia Starts Monitoring Musa Mohammed At Close Quarters Allnigeriasoccer.com has been informed that Super Eagles defender Musa Mohammed has enhanced his chances of being named in Nigeria’s 18-man squad for the 2016 Olympic Games by reporting to camp early. The Istanbul Basaksehir fullback was among the players that trained at the practice pitch of the National Stadium, Abuja on Tuesday evening. However, Musa was not present when the squad had their first workout on Wednesday, but it is understood that he was excused by coach Samson Siasia to attend to other pressing matters. Porto midfielder Mikel Agu and RSCA striker Imoh Ezekiel are still in camp and trained this morning. Ifeanyi Emmanuel http://www.allnigeriasoccer.com/read_news.php?nid=19509 |

I don't even know what to say! Kudos to u guys that have been making the thread lively. Hv been pessimistic about d way d coaches n nff are handling our national teams... I don't know why those who lack d knowledge of d game keep staying @ d helms of affairs. As long as these power-greedy people are there, I see us not making use of this gr8 opportunity of having a cluster of talented footballers all coming up almost @ dsame time. The external factors has always been d bane of our football. My question is this: what are our chances of going far in Rio's men's football game with clubs turning down d release of our lethal players? 1 Like |

TheSuperNerd: I have a few issues with your comment. 1) Iheanacho CANNOT perform well as a lone striker, and he is even worse as an AMF. He hasn't played as an AMF for Man city ever, the day he played as an AMF for us against Egypt he was poor. He can only perform extremely well as a SS and a false 9, I am not too sure about him playing on the wings but that is yet to be seen. 2) Why are you guys not considering Olarewanju Kayode? The guy is just a more athletic version of Morata. He has a better work rate and plays better, just that he is in the Austrian league and yes, I have watched his full watches, not just highlights. 3) Odion Ighalo should be in the bottom of that list, does anyone know where Sani Emmanuel-our super sub in the 2009 U17, is? 4) I don't want Iorfa junior anywhere near the SE. Did you hear what his dad said? He said his son isn't going to represent us at the Olympics, and that his son is only going to represent us if he is yet to be capped by England when he turns 23, imagine the arrogance! Is his son the best player in the world? He should go and burn, let's treat him the way we treated Onuoha Nedum. 5) Chuba Akpom is a pacy guy. I think he can function as a good winger. Although well, Simon Moses, Victor Moses, Ahmed Musa, Isaac Success and some other young guns, I think he can add something there. |

SIASIA: MIKEL UNSURE FOR RIO, WATFORD STOP IGHALO Coach Samson Siasia has admitted he is not certain Chelsea midfielder Mikel Obi will feature at the Rio Olympics just as Premier League club Watford have refused to release Odion Ighalo for the tournament. READ: No Rio Olympics for Osimhen Both players have been lined up as over-aged players for the summer games. However, Siasia has now disclosed he is no longer certain of Mikel for Rio 2016 as he has yet to receive Chelsea’s nod to release the star midfielder, while Watford have said Ighalo will not be released. “I’m not sure of Mikel because Chelsea have not got back to us on his availability, while Watford said they won’t release Ighalo,” he said. “It’s a big disappointment.” Already, Manchester City starlet Kelechi Iheanacho has also opted to stay put at his club rather than be in Brazil for the Olympics. Siasia expressed confidence that the likes of Umar Aminu (Turkey), Wilfred Ndidi, Moses Simon (Belgium), Kenneth Omeruo (England) and Shehu Abdullahi (Portugal) will be available for the competition reserved for players Under-23 with three over-aged players also allowed. http://africanfootball.com/news/632017/Siasia-Mikel-unsure-for-Rio-Watford-stop-Ighalo |

joseph1013: It actually occurred to me today. Conte relies on a defensive midfielder that will act as a pivot for his possession game. Something he had in Pirlo and Machisio. If Conte is going to kick start his season flying high, he needs Mikel who is the only possessive playing defensive midfielder in Chelsea. I do not see Chelsea releasing Mikel. |

Mickael2: Iheanacho can perform very well as a lone striker. Because you have not seen him play there, does not mean he can not perform well there. Iheanacho can perform well as an attacking midfielder because he gets to drop deep and play as an attacking midfielder when he plays his support role. In the Egypt game, he played as a Support striker. I disagree with him being poor. He dropped deep and coordinated play when he noticed we were not going to win the battle against the strong Egyptian defenders. He had two strong shots, One the Keeper saved and the other led to the goal. Remember Iheanacho's first Premier league goal against Crystal Palace. Even though it was for a few minutes, he played as the top striker, Replacing Bony. Aguero injured early in the game. The Reason Nacho is so good as a support striker is because he can comfortably slip into different positions in the attack and midfield areas. He also packs a nice curling cross when he is on the left wing. |

Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by TheSuperNerd(m): 1:40am On Jun 24, 2016 |
Note: First of all, I was talking about Options for the Super Eagles in the long run... not the U-23. That is what my post was about. 1) Naah... Wrong! Iheanacho shone as a lone striker in the FA cup vs Aston villa. He got A hattrick. Worse as an AMF?? Go watch the Nigeria vs Luxembourg game again... lol... Nacho still got it. He's a no.10/no.9 Super Hybrid kind of player who can play as a CF, an SS, A false 9, An AMF, and a right/left wing (inverted) forward. His potentials are are still being nurtured but I have seen more than enough of Nacho in various positions across the attack in so many games for club and country to know that what I say is true. And yes he is also a right wing forward. He even played from the left (as a left wing inverted forward) twice or thrice for man city this past season. 2) Kayode's finishing is the issue. Very poor in finishing and his decision making in the final third is still worrisome. 3) So in the list I drew up, you will pick Aaron Samuel and Aminu Umar ahead of Ighalo?? 4) Lolllll.... yeah I saw that... but I still think he is worth the trouble... 5) Pace is not what I am looking for here. I seek Technical giftedness if at all I seek forward options...... we have enough pacy players........ Akpom's technical attributes are not hair raising. But like Sir Linked said.... "The More, The ........" Mickael2: |
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by Mickael2(m): 9:13am On Jun 24, 2016 |
TheGoodJoe: You once said something, that if someone starts playing as a SS, he has that freedom to roam. That's the thing there, playing as a SS is far far different from playing as a true AMF. Some fullbacks can attack better than a winger but when you play them solely as a winger they flop, examples abound. He can roam as a SS, which means he can enter into any position that he wants so that he can duly influence the game, but if he is the AMF, he is relatively rigid which means he can't drift into anyother position and he has to be part of the main press, so you get my point? |
Re: All The News About The Olympic Eagles (U-23) HERE! by Mickael2(m): 9:24am On Jun 24, 2016 |
TheSuperNerd: Yes I know you were talking about the Super Eagles. 1) you might want to check my reply to SirGoodJoe, i can't really type it all again. Considering the Crystal Palace game in the FA cup against almost their second team, yes he played well there, there is really no striker on Earth who can't play as a lone striker, just that not all of them can play it well. And I maintain that he can't play the lone striker well against the top teams. He hasn't played as an AMF for a very long time. Playing as an AMF is not thesame as a support striker. 2) Well Kayode is essential similar to Ideye, even does it better than him, so if we invite Ideye then Kayode deserves a spot too. 3) Well, considering their performances for the national team then I will choose Aaron Samuel before him and that's considerable now. 4) Pace is sometimes required. If we are playing against a team keeping a highline, he can come in at the dying stages and exploit their tired legs. He can play as a CF or as a winger if i remember correctly so he is not a bad backup option. |

TheSuperNerd: Please, give Akpom benefits of doubt. Who knows if he could turn out to be better than those players you just mentioned. We can't judge him now until we see him play after 2 - 3 years. Peradventure, we can access his capabilities as a player but before then let us cap him first before it is too late. 2 Likes |

poor success seems siasia has bought himself small sense https://www.thecable.ng/mikel-ighalo-iheanacho-make-siasias-olympics-list Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo, and Alex Iwobi, are in the 35-man Olympics list, which Samson Siasia, head coach of the U-23 team, released on Friday. The list is expected to be trimmed down to 21 ahead the competition, which kicks off in Rio, Brazil, on August 5. Some of the young talented players in the list are: Ogenekaro Etebo, Musa Muhammed, Stanley Amuzie, Kingsley Madu, Taiwo Awoniyi. Nigeria will face Sweden, Colombia and Japan in Group B of the preliminary round of the 2016 Olympics men’s football event. Expectations are high that the current squad will repeat the feat of the Kanu Nwankwo-led ‘Dream Team’, which won the championship in 1996. The last time Nigeria got to the final round of the Olympics was at Beijing 2008. The team lost out to the Argentine side inspired by Lionnel Messi in the final. Interestingly, it was Siasia who led the Nigerian Squad to pick a silver medal at that competition. Below is the 35-man list: Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa FC, South Africa) Yusuf Bala (Kano Pillars) Emmanuel Daniel (Enugu Rangers) Taiwo Abdulrahman (Kwara United) Ndubuisi Agu (FC Porto, Portugal) Junior Ajayi (CS Sfaxien, Tunisia) Stanley Amuzie (Olhanense FC, Portugal), Taiwo Awoniyi (Frankfurt FC, Germany) Okechukwu Azubuike (Yeni Malatyaspor, Turkey) Etor Daniel (Enyimba FC) Augustine Dimgba (Sunshine Stars) William Ekong (Haugesund FC, Norway) Saturday Erimuya (Kayseri Erciyespor, Turkey) Oghenekaro Etebo (CD Feirense FC, Portugal) Imoh Ezekiel (Anderlecht, Belgium) Saviour Godwin (Ostende, Belgium) Odion Ighalo (Watford FC, England) Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City, England) Alex Iwobi (Arsenal FC, England) Emiloju Julius (MFM FC) Kingsley Madu (AS Trencin, Slovakia) John Mikel Obi (Chelsea FC, England) Musa Muhammed (Istanbul Basaksehir, Turkey) Usman Muhammed (CF Uniao, Portugal) Wilfred Ndidi (KRC Genk, Belgium) Erhun Obanor (MFM FC) Godfrey Oboabona (Caykur Rizespor, Turkey) Kenneth Omeruo (Chelsea FC, England) Sodiq Saliu (Seraing FC, Belgium) Abdullahi Shehu (CF Uniao, Portugal) Moses Simon (KAA Gent, Belgium) Seth Sincere (Rhapsody FC) Ndifreke Udo (Abia Warriors) Aminu Umar (Osmalispor, Turkey) Sadiq Umar (AS Roma, Italy) |
