You are on point bro!
if you think these artistes deserve international recognition, then your music taste must be very poor. Where is the talent to begin with?.

Wizkid doesn't have an international recognition. Having an international recognition doesn't mean recording music abroad, but being so good that you attract the attention of world's best record labels, being so good in your own skin that you get recognized by major international music labels; like sony music entertainment, interscope, virgin music, Tuff gong, Def jam, bad boys music, Arista, e.t.c, and getting signed to recording one or two albums for them.

International recognition doesn't mean proactively begging and paying a popular international act to appear in your or their music videos.

The only Nigerian astiste at the moment who deservely have achieved international recognition is Asa. Tu face would have, but for some of the reasons you listed. I wish I could advise that guy, Tiwa Savage and the other girl- I forgot her name- would do better with good song writers.

The current crop of musicians generally just do what others do. Unlike Fela Anikulapokuti, Majek Fashek, Sunny Ade, e.t.c who created their own thing irrespective of the music fray of their days.

Talking from experience...........

How many words do you understand in Awilo's song
Awilo sings in French, an international language. In short, I'm sure you're aware that French is an official language in Nigeria while Yoruba is not

Note - Doing indigenous music is not an excuse for lack of intl recognition. 9ice was invited to nelson mandela and MOB0 and Yousuf won a grammy with his local songs.. So doing local or indigenous song is never an excuse..

1) Quantity Over Quality - Olamide has made quantity is main goal..Flood the scene with songs and songs till you reach a point of equilibrum and then start to decline...

Olamide has failed to allow the people thirst for his songs and his releases are not up to expectations too...

It gets to a point listeners are no longer gingered to listen to what the artist will say as artist becomes monotous and repititive.

The rapper is even gearing up to release a sixth studio album.

2) Branding - Branding is also very much .... The Kind of brand Olamide potrays is of the not too internationally minded artist. He hardly dresses corporate and potray his versatility in his brand..

He has even gone ahead to Brand himself a Local Rapper. This type of image projected is the way he is addressed..

He has even refused to meet up with more influential managers and more serious minded and music experts ..... The lack of Expertise on the side of the management and consisting of influential managers does bear its mark.

3) Appeal - While deviation from indigenous music is not the point. Appeal is very paramount..... Olamide style is not appealing to the outside world.. Sometimes balancing works.. I wonder if Hausas listen to olamide songs ? But i bet more listen to 9ice ? Why

A little of more mature songs and english lyrics might do the trick....Do something appealing to every one and yet dont forget the minority. You dont waste international features with Wale on songs like papilo you go make us proud....

Give them what they love.. Trap, pop. Feature more of their artistes and seek for international features....

Olamide is a Legend and will remain one... However , breaking into the international market Like Wizkid is not an easy job......

Olamide has too much talent than to be labelled a local rapper... We want to see him topping the billboard chart and copping his own BET award soon too... Enough of the Headies and NEA awards.

I really understand where you coming from but let be realistic been a king in your country is far more enough than been a boi boi in another country.

If you saying these are the reasons why Olamide has gone international then I would gladly ask you to tell me why Banky and Sound Sultan hasn't gone international or even Darey because if na talent Wizkid and Davido no reach ds people unless of course you throw in sentiment
What everybody want to achieve in life is different if Wizkid and Davido feel they need to feature all the international artiste in the world to appeal to people den so be it
If Olamide decide to remain local so be it they all have different agenda but there goal still remains the same to make money.
Fame without money is nonsense plus I think is high time we stop chasing after this people if truly our sounds and music don evolve then they should chase after us
Bottomline do what works for you and that exactly what Olamide is doing

Look. It's not compulsory to go international. Every artiste like every product should have a target market and stick to it.

Olamide is on track. He is doing well within his target market.

Whenever he is ready to transform, he can then rebrand and change focus.

One step at a time.

Look at nice, he got a chance to sing in the UK but he couldn't sustain the so called international Market.

Where is Nice today?

please dont tell me you are trying to compare 9ice with olamide

Re: Why Olamide Might Remain A Local Artiste For Long !! by Nobody: 7:37pm On Jun 23, 2016

Because he mostly raps in yoruba. That's a recipe for local champion!

Flavor used to sing only in Igbo but became intentionally popular after he started including English in his songs.

D'banj and Davido exploded internationally because most of their songs are in English or at least pigeon English.

my point exactly,, was it not untill flavour started doing english and collabos with yoruba nd western acts , he started gaining more recognition....

Well, As much as I hate the Nigeria music industry and the artistes. Olamide tends to be worst in limelight because he gained popularity off indigenous language and models of Nigeria interactions such as slangs, salutations, Nigeria street appeal, Apparel, photo Pose, Flows and flowery, Misongynistic potray of women and the likes.

So why isn't he recognized internationally.

Reason is those indigenous factors aforementioned is difficult for the international community to understand but it makes sense to Nigerian, Not just any Nigerian but the gullible and half baked educated once, the street hustlers, touts, loosed girls and club house.

As a 21st century man who relies on his brain for responsible living, Olamide is a bad influence to me and youngsters looking up to him. Wizkid and Davido are also bad influences but the difference is they use understandable pidgin/English and mostly sing about love to women , club and burning money but in English so the international community easily understands what they saying.

Warning- To you parents who dream of raising the Einstein, Tesla or Bill Gates of tomorrow then Wizkid, Davido & Olamide are all bad influence to your children.
21st century man that does not know that olamide rap not sing lke wizkid and davido.

What are u saying? Phyno is classy amd doesn't behave as touts... Lemme give u the difference btw olamide and phyno.. Then u will now tell me who is a tout

Olamide has low cut on / I can't even describe Phyno's hairstyle

Olamide has no tattoo / I'm sure Phyno has

The two of them are bet ambassadors

They both display nigg* attitudes in music videos

So what's your definition of Olamide tout attitude.. Abeg face reality

And about Olamide relating with those big names, I make bold to tell you that there isn't any person in Lasgidi that doesn't know about Olamide.. Even if he or she is not a fan of hip hop.. He would have once heard his music..

he never said he needed BET award ok He is a local rapper.who the Bleep told you the BET is synonymous to progress!

reminds me one of his punch lines

"Ibile buruku ni mio H-factor abale sha or kin tabon"

Meaning

"I'm terribly local,you will notice H-factor or I shell"

So, my brother he never said he wanted any of those things by forming what he is not. He is a local rapper and he is contented with that. If his local way can get him BET fine and if otherwise Bleep it.

It's true na. The guy even missed one important point; you need actual talent to be recognised internationally. Just because Nigerians are easily dazzled does not mean the rest of the world is.

issue of not getting international features and bla bla is due to the fact that he is Local! anyways I still love olamide!

and yeah he need to slow down in the release of song he need to get people to thirst for his song! that's y WizKid doesn't drop singles and album any how he needs to be thirsted for in the industry

Have you been to the north before

I served in Taraba state and I see and hear a lot of people there singing and playing his songs.

Some people just have a slave mentality cos to them, if an American doesn't sing Olamide's song then he's not a successful artiste.

Young man is doing fine for himself and family and some people are talking international.

The Ooni of Ife has been in the US for some time now, some people have come online to cry that he's spending more time there than here.

He's trying to go international
