Good Morning fellow Nairalanders, my Landlord gave me quit notice to vacate his building a day after my house rent expired, I was hoping to renew the rent on Monday, Please I want to reply him telling him that I pay rent annually and therefore can't be given a week to vacate his building, please can any lawyer in the house help me to compose such a letter. Thank you.

Your landlord is a joke. Get a lawyer and enjoy 6 months free. That would give you enough time to get a better place |

I read the letter with keen interest and it is very laughable. So, landlords still carry on with this attitude nowadays? Pathetic!!! Shame on the Lawyer that drafted the letter though. Back to the topic, before the expiration of the rent, were you at all given 6 months quit notice? Were you in anyway disturbing the peace of the property and community which serves as threat to the lives and properties of the community? Do you live in Lagos? If you do, good. Lagos Tenancy Law entitles you to six months, and nothing less. You don't need to decorate the letter. Just let the lawyer who wrote to you understand that you are writing in reference to the letter he sent and that you are aware of your rights as a tenant. That you will utilize the six months' notice as stipulated in the law and nothing less as long as you pay yearly . You have to do this politely but firmly. And you have the duty of adhering to the six months notice. Else, you will become wrong. But.. Where is your tenancy agreement? |

Why do people always hammer on six months notice. @ OP,if the agreement you signed stated ONE YEAR CERTAIN, then you don't have a case. Just vacate the apartment or renew latest on the day your rent expires |

Before the expiration I was never given any six months notice, he called me a day to the expiration date and tell me he is not interested in me renewing the rent that I should start looking for house, after two days he came with a layer to serve me the quit notice, I have never in any way disturbed the peace of the property, the reason he gave me is that he want to make use of the property, Please will appreciate if you can help me with your contact, my whatsapp number is 08064741098. elbukaze: I am sorry, i am just seeing your post. I hope its not too late (I pray) Back to the matter, I think you should insist of telling the lawyer that, you were not served 6 months quit notice prior to the expiration of the tenancy period. Let him understand that, getting an apartment within a short period of time is unrealistic. I employ you to beg for 3 months duration (although not in any law) to allow you find an apartment. Mind you, the three months you requested should be free. I dont want to give out my personal number here bro. I am a staff working for this company. |
