Mikel Obi, Odion Ighalo, and Alex Iwobi, are in the 35-man Olympics list, which Samson Siasia, head coach of the U-23 team, released on Friday.

The list is expected to be trimmed down to 21 ahead the competition, which kicks off in Rio, Brazil, on August 5.

Some of the young talented players in the list are: Ogenekaro Etebo, Musa Muhammed, Stanley Amuzie, Kingsley Madu, Taiwo Awoniyi.

Nigeria will face Sweden, Colombia and Japan in Group B of the preliminary round of the 2016 Olympics men’s football event.

Expectations are high that the current squad will repeat the feat of the Kanu Nwankwo-led ‘Dream Team’, which won the championship in 1996.

The last time Nigeria got to the final round of the Olympics was at Beijing 2008. The team lost out to the Argentine side inspired by Lionnel Messi in the final.

Interestingly, it was Siasia who led the Nigerian Squad to pick a silver medal at that competition.

Below is the 35-man list:

Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa FC, South Africa)
Yusuf Bala (Kano Pillars)
Emmanuel Daniel (Enugu Rangers)
Taiwo Abdulrahman (Kwara United)
Ndubuisi Agu (FC Porto, Portugal)
Junior Ajayi (CS Sfaxien, Tunisia)
Stanley Amuzie (Olhanense FC, Portugal),
Taiwo Awoniyi (Frankfurt FC, Germany)
Okechukwu Azubuike (Yeni Malatyaspor, Turkey)
Etor Daniel (Enyimba FC)
Augustine Dimgba (Sunshine Stars)
William Ekong (Haugesund FC, Norway)
Saturday Erimuya (Kayseri Erciyespor, Turkey)
Oghenekaro Etebo (CD Feirense FC, Portugal)
Imoh Ezekiel (Anderlecht, Belgium)
Saviour Godwin (Ostende, Belgium)
Odion Ighalo (Watford FC, England)
Kelechi Iheanacho (Manchester City, England)
Alex Iwobi (Arsenal FC, England)
Emiloju Julius (MFM FC)
Kingsley Madu (AS Trencin, Slovakia)
John Mikel Obi (Chelsea FC, England)
Musa Muhammed (Istanbul Basaksehir, Turkey)
Usman Muhammed (CF Uniao, Portugal)
Wilfred Ndidi (KRC Genk, Belgium)
Erhun Obanor (MFM FC)
Godfrey Oboabona (Caykur Rizespor, Turkey)
Kenneth Omeruo (Chelsea FC, England)
Sodiq Saliu (Seraing FC, Belgium)
Abdullahi Shehu (CF Uniao, Portugal)
Moses Simon (KAA Gent, Belgium)
Seth Sincere (Rhapsody FC)
Ndifreke Udo (Abia Warriors)
Aminu Umar (Osmalispor, Turkey)
Sadiq Umar (AS Roma, Italy)

Selective selection .

You once said something, that if someone starts playing as a SS, he has that freedom to roam. That's the thing there, playing as a SS is far far different from playing as a true AMF. Some fullbacks can attack better than a winger but when you play them solely as a winger they flop, examples abound. He can roam as a SS, which means he can enter into any position that he wants so that he can duly influence the game, but if he is the AMF, he is relatively rigid which means he can't drift into anyother position and he has to be part of the main press, so you get my point?

I get your point. The thing about this thing is that, when a player plays a particular role for a while, they get used to the pressure that comes with it.

Nacho as a young teen was exceptional with the pressure that comes with the attack midfield role. When the Cityzens coaches switched him, I did not watch him play in his training games but he will have difficulties adjusting.

That is the point. Difficulty adjusting does not mean he would not play well in the role.

Look at CR7 at the Euros. The more he adjusts to the lead role up front, the deadlier he becomes. Aguero would struggle to adjust as a creative midfielder as he was during his Atletico and Independiente days. Today he plays upfront but it does not mean he can not adjust.

Putting Nacho upfront might not bring an immediate attacking spark as he does as a Support striker. With time, he would adjust.

I get your point but what I am pointing out is that players like Nacho, Aguero, Suarez, Neymar, Mess, CR7, De Bruyne can adjust to play any where within the creative attack, WF, SS and Striker roles.

yes we can agree on this. My point is based on his CURRENT position but ofcourse he can adjust but he can't just come to Nigeria during a FIFA break and start adjusting, the adjustment should start from his club so let's just use him as a deadly SS for the future but I do agree with your points though

Yes I know you were talking about the Super Eagles.

1) you might want to check my reply to SirGoodJoe, i can't really type it all again. Considering the Crystal Palace game in the FA cup against almost their second team, yes he played well there, there is really no striker on Earth who can't play as a lone striker, just that not all of them can play it well. And I maintain that he can't play the lone striker well against the top teams.

He hasn't played as an AMF for a very long time. Playing as an AMF is not thesame as a support striker.

2) Well Kayode is essential similar to Ideye, even does it better than him, so if we invite Ideye then Kayode deserves a spot too.

3) Well, considering their performances for the national team then I will choose Aaron Samuel before him and that's considerable now.

4) Pace is sometimes required. If we are playing against a team keeping a highline, he can come in at the dying stages and exploit their tired legs. He can play as a CF or as a winger if i remember correctly so he is not a bad backup option.

If Nacho plays CF, in a full season for Manchester City, his stats will amaze you. He is actually trained as a top striker, not a SS. He plays the SS role because of Aguero. He excels in the SS role because he is one of the most gifted players in the game. His goal stats is not a fluke.

If Iheanacho could not play as a Top striker, Pellegrini would never let Dzeko go. That is what your missing.

Same goes to the AMF role.

I don't see Siasia clinching the trophy in Rio Olympics..

These 35 man provisional squad is bedeviled by sentiments in players invitation. Siasia had decided to give some players automatic shirts even before kicking the ball in camp..

Milner at one time played up front. De Bruyne played upfront last season. Creative players can play different roles. If Aguero, Dzeko and Negredo injured and Jovetic was fit. Jovetic will play as the top striker.

It is like saying why would Mancini decide to play Aguero as a striker when he is generally an Attacking Midfielder.

Well, maybe they are on Siasia's list but I am not aware. Anyhow I want to see the full list, before then I must speak out against mediocre, nepotism and na my brother choice of selecting players for the National team.
We all want one player or d other to be in d team. But come to think of it, Ajagun is an AMF but Mikel Agu is a DMF so one cannot sub one for the other. Olaitan didn't do himself a lot of favour. He wasn't consistent in his loan deal both in Holland & Belgium. Besides who will they bench in d attacking third.

thank you mr brother. I saw people saying that we should drop Ndifreke for Isaac Success and stuffs like that, one position for another. My only regret in that team is the exclusion of Isaac Success but considering the fact that he is moving to a new club and that means he has to start the preseason too

Of course I definitely know Mikel Agu is a DMF but my question is how did he manage to make the list when I definitely know the lad only played 2 matches the whole of last season? How come? How come?

To have a closer look at him? No! Because he can't tell me he does not have enough players to cover that wing on his mischievous list. The likes of Mikel Obi, Ndidi and Shehu Abdullahi are already on his list, so how can Siasi drop them for Agu?

Even as at that, Why can't he extend the same to Abdul Ajagun and Olaitan who had a better season than Mikel Agu and some players on that frivolous list. Imagine Saviour Godwin who only played 38 minutes of football last season on the list ahead of Michael Olaitan and Michael Babatunde. Yiack!

So, Siasia can't apply that his mischievous word "to take a closer look at" ko? As he has stylishly used to include those he made us ignorantly believed was not on his list initially but some how "to take a look at" turned the table overnight to suddenly surface on the list.

Apart from Alex Iwobi who else can effectively play as a AMF on that list?

Is Godwin Saviour and Awoniyi better than Michael Olaitan? Apart from Imoh Ezekiel and Simon Moses the I no see any player better than Olaitan.

WOLFSBURG OSIMHEN WASN’T DROPPED, CHOSE TO OPT OUT OF OLYMPIC TEAM

Contrary to reports making rounds in the Nigeria media that Wolfsburg bound forward Victor Osimhen has been dropped from the Nigerian U-23s, the striker’s representative has denied the news.

According to a close source of the player, the 17 year old had a chat with coach Samson Siasia of the U-23s after which they both agreed it’s best the forward focus on the Nigeria U-20s where he is guarantee to play games than the U-23s where player power could see him seat on the bench.

“Osimhen wasn’t dropped, he had a meeting with Siasia where it was agreed it’s best he stay with the U-20s, people forget so soon how he got into the team after the U-17 World Youth Championship ” He told Owngoalnigeria.com.

He further confirmed the details of the forward’s deal with Wolfsburg stating clearly that the teen star won’t join the Bundesliga side in pre season training but will resume practice with them in November.

“He won’t be having pre season with Wolfsburg as he will join them in November and train until he turns 18 when his professional contract will be activated”.
