Marilo: That's been my thing with him from day one. It is my unwavering opinion that you DO NOT need a QS if you're building a simple single family home It's wasted money. (Of what value to me is paying someone N250,000 to be told that I need 5,000 blocks and 100 tons of sand, when I can simply apply that money towards my build?) Now, if you're going to be building a commercial building and/or securing finance from investors and/or financial institution then, of course, you will need that to show due diligence. My issue with Olumide4Christ is his arrogance. Basically, according to him, one is unserious if one does not hire him or his cronies even on a simple bungalow and furthermore he's always quick to deride self-builders like me and call us "Do It Yourselfer" as if we're in competition. People don't get it on here. Come and let your work speak for itself. I've never read of Spyder880, Skimanski, Aventures, Bitswork looking for work on here. If anything they encourage us, point us in the right way and voice concern when we are missing steps on our builds. 3 Likes |

EgunMogaji: Here you show again your bias against QS. Wherever QS on this forum make comments, you're always attacking them; I saw your exchanges with other QS on the "Mistakes Architects Make' thread. Has a QS offended you in time past? Please let us know and let bygones be bygone. PLEASE GO BACK to my comment above which you are responding to; where did I mention QS there OR has Construction professional become synonymous with only QS? Why didn't you state your beef against Architects and Engineers too, or aren't they construction professionals too?? Or do you think that because I am a QS, I'm only referring to QS when I say construction professionals? For your info, I have alliances with other professionals in the construction sector(Architects, Engineers, Estate Surveyors); we hold one another in high esteem and refer clients to one another & NOT pose as if we know and can do it all like the quacks do. That's how we were trained to relate. So, you totally misconstrued my comments due to your bias. I also stand by my comments because they are fact. And wait a minute, I never even mentioned your moniker in my statement so why telling me about what you do or don't do in the USA?? I didn't mention anyone in particular. Regards. 3 Likes |

Marilo: Sorry never saw your WhatsApp message. If I did, I would have responded. Moreover, my clients both within and outside Nairaland contact me via phone and/or email. As far as I am concerned, a WhatsApp message is neither here nor there. Moreover after sending the WhatsApp message, did you ever come to my thread to mention it or make a complaint about my non-response? Why wait for me to make a comment on some other thread before making your grievances? That's not right. My conscience is clear - I have attended to every KNOWN request made to me here on Nairaland and out there. When I want to make enquiries from other people or companies, I call and send emails. That makes it more serious and official. Also note that on the issue of not engaging me as a QS, that's not a problem because before joining properties section sometimes last year, God has been providing clients for me for 10 years now & will still continue to do so. My success and advancement is NOT & NEVER will be in the hands of any man, but of GOD! Never put yourself in the shoes of GOD! My conscience is clear! 2 Likes |

olumide4christ: Like I promised you before, I will be unwavering on responding to every inane comment that you make against self-builders like me who do not see a value in your profession to us. I have no beef with anyone not even with a QS when needed on a required project. You're barking up the wrong tree. It is what it is and I expected you to be upset as usual. You don't need to mention my moniker and you won't directly (you know better). What you will do, and do, is beat around the bush and attack "Do It Yourselfers" in general of which I am one. I will always respond to you and directly. An Architect is needed, a Quantity Surveyor is not needed. Fact. I'll be here for you, that's a promise. 2 Likes |

All what I am reading on this thread in the last few days is a typical example of our problem as a nation The Nigerian society has gone so bad that abnormality has become a norm. Anybody that tries to speak against it or try to right the societal ills is called "names" and seen as insane. Every criminal is "commuted to the hands of God" when decisive actions are supposed to be melted on them to punish them for their wrong doings. Nobody is holy but the level of our "unholiness" is different. Do good for good to come your way!!! 7 Likes |

olumide4christ: FINAL STATEMENT... 1. I don't comment here but I am always here (like many others). 2"....Moreover after sending the WhatsApp message, did you ever come to my thread to mention it or make a complaint about my non-response?" That statement reeks of arrogance and VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. I am not one that "beg" to pay people to work for or with me,if you choose to shoot yourself in the legs, nurse your wound if you survive it. 3. I don't and will not seal deals in a faceless forum like nairaland and you shouldn't too if you are a real professional. If I don't know of others,I know skimanski will not - I recommend you go read skimanski's responses to people (like me) who accuse him of not responding to their mails. He doesn't call them out. 4.A real professional knows every customer (real or potential) count. Anyone who says "if you don't patronize me, GOD will provide another customer" is not only unprofessional but also displaying ignorance. Why? Customer is king and always right! I am now fully convinced you'd absolutely win "back of the queue" award with your attitude. FYI, I am not in the country but I am fully on ground in Nigeria, our FDI (foreign direct investment) should be encouraged and not discouraged by "unprofessional" professionals in the profession of being unprofessional. 9 Likes |

EgunMogaji: My issue with you is that when someone says something which doesn't align with what you're doing or believe, you attack the person or seek to make the person irrelevant to people of like mind. My 1st client on Nairaland never asked me to prepare a BOQ for him or tell him how many blocks he needs for his project. He went through my thread and asked me to do a feasibility study on a number of plots of lands he had in Ibadan, to determine what kind of property would be best for each plot of land, the estimated funds to be invested, return on investment and payback period. All these I did for him, warranting me to travel to Ibadan to carry out the exercise. I mention this because QS work is far beyond 'how many blocks or bags of cement', though I must say that's about how much the quacks really know. You only say that because that is what is within the limits of your knowledge. So many people out there know that QS work is far above and wider than blocks & cement & they relate with QS as such. Nice night! 5 Likes |

On behalf of the silent majority, the readers who try to keep up with this thread when they come to Nland but do not comment, I say thank you to the gentlemen, awon ore aje, who have taken it upon themselves to protect people they do not know from one man's fraudulent hustle. There is nothing about this brabus to suggest he does not know what he did, all you have to hear is the way he derides his customers with comments suggesting they could not afford financing to do something in one way or another. That is very typical of fraudsters, they try to shame you with nonsense that implies you don't have money, just because you are mindful of how you spend money you worked for. Awon ota aje , enemies of enterprise. To every gentleman/family that lost money through association with this character, greet your wives well and hold her close. The fact that you are still married after losing so much money to this character is a testimony to the love your wife has for you, you know Naija women no dey play like dat By the way it does not matter whether someone spent N27 million or N27000, anyone who works (not talking fraudsters aka hustlers with no visible means of income) for their money, you can tell from their speech. Reason why cultured gentlemen are careful who they let into their inner circle. Everyone comes on the internet, who knows the "work" of each person's hands. Because someone makes a living does not mean it's honest living. All it takes for evil to flourish is for good people to keep quiet and watch evil repeat itself again and again in perpetuity because they don't want to "keep talking about the past" What hogwash! The only person that ever tried to defraud me (he almost succeeded), I still talked about him this year and that attempt is close to 10 years ago. An unrepentant brabus has not even pretended to be contrite and folks are shouting "leave him alone." That is how we Nigerians do yeye big boy, pretending we can afford to lose money we worked hard for. If you have excess money, give it to charity and get a tax receipt or give it to strangers/relatives, not to incorrigible fraudsters, keeping the "ota aje" enterprise alive. God bless all you merry gentlemen standing up for something and may there never be another victim. The character finds his prey here, that is why he shamelessly refuses to stop posting, valiantly trying to find new prey. Thank God for men who have taken a stand to stop evil from regenerating perpetually. I remember the ahonahoi scandal very clearly, that young man was his first Nland victim, I think. Same way some people were dancing around with excuses for brabus at the time. It is now what? 5 yrs after? modus operandi has probably not changed much but the "let him be" crowd still abound with their drums. Same way they kept making excuses for the inspired guy until the guy finally stopped pursuing prey here but not before a N2 million+ naira "hustle" was completed on a victim, no money, no car, don't know if she ever got restitution or not. I had to step out to say something after reading the misleading, apologist comments. . . . . . and yes, get it all in writing and yes, we the onlookers are happy to see the conversations that cannot be disputed by brabus in any credible manner. Anyone that loves transparency is not afraid to put things in writing, it is the mischievous that often prefer to leave no records. 21 Likes |

EgunMogaji: "Eru kan ni mu ni bu igba eru", toto, oshe bi owe The art of estimating is as old as construction itself. And the war between builders/engineers and quantity surveyors is no news too. Lol. I hope I am not interfering in a conversation of no concern to me, but I must not look on and all you to misjudge all QS based on your experience with few. Estimation, does not increase building costs, rather it gives you an overview albeit detailed breakdown of everything you need from clearing site to handing over. But you already know that. Maybe it is in Nigeria, that QS, like other professionals, try to collect stupidly huge amount of money for preparing bills and valuations. But please, God forbid the day when we execute projects without financial analysis. Let each professional handle his job, respectfully and with due respect for ethics. Thou shall not call all QS bad, because the ones you know are bad. Neither shall you shoot down all technical builders, because your builder neighbour is a swindler. Let your statistics be a representative of the population. I hope when you work with some other QS, your orientation about professional billing will change. And I hope all professionals will learn the art of managing clients with courtesy. Thank you. JB! 3 Likes |

Marilo: You are all misunderstanding what he meant! 1.) There is a LIMIT to DIY building...... some builds get "so complex" whereby, "Real Engineering Calculations" is what determines where a Column goes and how it balances its weight/Moments about a particular axis. It is the COMPLEXITY that determines the need or not. This is FACT, whether we accept it or not. 2.) A BUILDER is "expected' to be someone FORMERLY TRAINED (some get BSc. Building Technology, HND Building Engineering, e.t.c) and therefore COMPETENT is his Profession! There is a "Professional Body" regulating Building and the Building Profession (NIB or Builders Guild). Apart from AbdulWastecx and on eor two other ones, all these people parading themselves as "Builder/Engineers are NOT "Professionals", in the real sense of the word! Yes, they have acquired experience over the years but "Professionalism" is a measurable quantity, proved by taking Exams and showing your competency. Computing Professionals take certification Exams, to prove their Competency..... even when they have experience and track record. It is still required. Accounting professionals take certifications Exams, to prove their Competency..... even when they have experience and track record. It is still required. Ditto Medical Doctors, Surveyors, Pilots, Bankers, e.t.c. What makes us think Builders will/should be different? What we do here in Nigeria can never be done in any advanced country.... the best you can "DIY build" is your Shed or Garage! We are just "Enthusiasts and DIY's" aficionados! Let us be honest with ourselves. Anything bigger than the above, you need County/Council approval........ and you wont get that without the Signature and Stamp of a Professional Architect and/or Builder .(who will study your build properly, confirm that it is safe and meat standard Engineering requirements, even when it is just a simple Personal Home. They wont even approve it if you try to "DIY" with a multi-level Rentable Apartment. Anyway, it is when accidents happen that we all start to look for blame. Lastpage! 8 Likes |

MY GENERAL RESPONSE to all those still "somersaulting" over my comment I am not asking anyone to forgive Brabus or give him more job. Why would any "sane person" even dream of that, despite all said and done? Carry Gun and shoot your "criminal" or take him to court, if that is what floats your boat. Whether anyone agrees or not with the way "l tackle issues and my personal mindset", is immaterial. Soak it Up pleease. I am not here to please anybody or be liked by any faceless being Do whatever you think is RIGHT, in your own thinking, DO IT to him E nor concern me! l "believe and practice" what l preach. I dont want to use certain words here because somehow, it will rub-off on the Clients who have undergone so much already, and that would be insensitive. Some of these "Cry-more-than-the-bereaved" are no better than the person they criticise, in the real world but then, they can hide behind internet and "pretend over-righteous"! Each man to his own beliefs, Abeg, e don do to dey make all these cowardly snide remarks. Anyone that wants to "call me out' on this matter, should do so DIRECTLY so there is no ambiguity about who they are talking to. We dont all have to "sleep with our heads facing the same direction".... thats why its a DEMOCRACY naah. Poor or Rich, I dont pay anyone's Bill ............and nobody pays mine. Lastpage! 4 Likes |

NLresidentQS: This is not a piss on QS thingie, it's singularly a piss on Olumide4Christ thing with his arrogance. Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by lastpage: 8:21am On Jun 26, 2016 |
EgunMogaji: We are not referring to the same thing. You are talking about SIZE/FOOT-PRINT of the build. I am talking about COMPLEXITY of a build. Both are not the same thing but not mutually exclusive (I know you know, but you misunderstood me) Would you consider the building of a family Home, to have the "same Complexity" of say the building a Ten Floor Apartment with an under ground garage? That is just an example of what l have in mind. I am a DIY person myself. Infact, l applaud DIY people because it shows they are intelligent, to be able to pull it off. I only said, one cannot always do DIY for Complex builds, One needs to add the services of a Professional, to avoid "had l known". Personally, i will NEVER DIY any build more than Two Storeys (ground, first and second floors). After that level,l will let professionals handle it. It does not make me any less, it just means l cherish the life of people l will be putting inside and l dont like to waste my money correcting errors that are avoidable. No one can disrespect you or anyone for doing DIY on their personal build. Its your money, your house and your effort. E nor concern anybody at all. Thanks. Lastpage! PS: The use of the phrase "Shed/Garage" is not intended to disparage the build....... just an allusion to "complexity" of the build.
