Can We Have A Revolution In Nigeria ? by cindybella101(f): 10:32am On Jul 02, 2016 |
Please care to read through this article cause I can assure you its worth your time. Ignore any typo error as am bound to make mistakes thanks. Nigeria is a vast country with over 250 distinct ethnic groups, by October we will clocking 56yrs of our corporate existence as a nation but the fact remains we are not really a nation in the sense that we(citizens) are always are each others neck caused by tribalism, religious bigotry and nepotism and I begin to wonder were we all got it wrong as a nation or could it be that the white men left us too early or maybe the black man is truly cursed as seen in our everyday dealings. I started to pen down this article this morning when I was researching the prospect of furthering my education in Ghana but was enraged when I saw that our dear naira is even no where near the cedi, where 1ghc = #72 and I begins to ponder were we got it wrong as a nation but I couldn't ascertain. If I decide to throw this as an open-ended question, we will start attacking each other with each tribe blaming one another forgetting our problem is not tribal. That we don't have stable electricity, food, good roads, water is not caused by any tribe. Before election we see our politicians cutting ponmo, frying akara, eating corn, drinking #20 satchet Milo, telling us they have no shoes, but after election what do the masses get in return ? Absolutely nothing, they loot our common wealth with impunity and throw crumbs to us while we keep on singing their praise cause maybe they are from our tribe, religion or party. I can go on and on but I don't want to make this article longer than necessary . How can I be a patriotic citizen of Nigeria when Nigeria as an entity have done virtually nothing for me as citizen, no light, no water, bad roads and a very bad economy. After pondering for a while on how to get Nigeria to be the giant of Africa it claimed to be, I concluded that what we might need is PATRIOTIC REVOLUTION ! Yes I mean patriotic revolution drawn from the different tribes of Nigeria were we will all stamp our feet on the ground and say enough is enough and demand our right in this country. Please this thread should not be a tribal bashing thread because our problem is not tribal or religious but our egoist elites feeding off our ignorance. The Igbo's are quick to blame the Yoruba's not knowing that the average Yoruba man in the street if Lagos, Ibadan and osun is not praying for his downfall, Same as the Yoruba's blaming the Igbo's forgetting that the average Igbo man in the street of Onitsha, aba, Enugu is suffering the same fate as him, not praying for his downfall and not his problem. So is revolution what we need right now or are we even lazy to start a revolution ?? |

Revolution CANNOT take place in Nigeria. There is too much mutual distrust to make that possible. The "he is our son" syndrome makes it an impossibility. Besides, instead of a violent revolution, I would rather we had an ethical revolution. There is too much of the ills ailing this nation in everyone. Corruption is every where, everyone wants quick money, parents pay teachers to help their children pass exams, and a host of other social malaise. 1 Like 1 Share |

Only the youths can change the course of this country's present and future. And only the youth can lead a meaningful revolution. Unfortunately most of the youths are blinded by ethnicity and religion (watch as they flood this thread with ethnic bashing), they are illiterates and those who manage to go to school are half-baked. Most of them can't even write a simple English sentence withou you wanting to throw up, not to talk of reading. Nigeria has lost it. And it's not likely we will ever get it right again. It would have been better before the advent of social media and smart phones, But the average youth in the world only buries his head in his/her phone. Our girls are shallow and take selfies per second. The boys stuff their phones with porn and ruin their lives with it. The average Nigerian is selfish to the core. |

Am not proposing a violent revolution but rather a peaceful one. The mutual distrust can be overcome if we can learn to gradually trust each other as I proposed in my write up. |

Ioannes:we will get it right if we want to, we just have to believe and work towards it. I can bet that if a few courageous youths can start it, many youths will follow suit. And my sure bet is leading the peaceful revolution from our universities if our sug presidents can monster the courage and make it happen. Just imagine were the youths of all our universities are leading a revolution, am sure other youths out of school will follow suit |

Ioannes:Some are sellouts but definitely not all. Am sure some are the youth wing different political parties cos of the status quo, some will readily change their mind if they know its for the benefit of all. What will it profit an sug president to sell his right for thousands of naira that doesn't have value except in Nigeria and still follow his colleagues the following year to look for nonexistent job when he can change the current system through his post ? |
Re: Can We Have A Revolution In Nigeria ? by Victorvexz(m): 12:07pm On Jul 02, 2016 |
Revolution cannot occur in Nigeria because Nigeria is a democratic country, where there change of government and policies every four years. So what is the need of revolution when another government can take over within just 4 years, with good and different policy that u may like. Revolution only occurs in dictatorships. The highest thing the citizens can do is to call for the impeachment of the president in a democracy like Nigeria. I am yet to see any democratic country on earth that went on a revolution. If u have seen one, please let me know. 1 Like |

Nigerian youths are the most disadvantaged youths from a wealthy country. All these old men do is to feed them with tribalism and they go out fighting each other while the old men steal their future. When i see an average Nigerian youth hustling in the street, i can't help but imagine how better off they could have been if they fought for their rights rather than for politicians to get into power. 1 Like |

modath:Their is sense in what victorvexz said in his post. No need having a revolution when a new government can take over in four years but now the question is going to be how to do that ? I have heard about the youth Democratic party sometimes ago I don't know how serious they are and the caliber of people there, maybe we as youths can look unto the party and see if they hold the answer to our problem. What do you think ? |
