The general public is aware that in recent days, some States of the Federation have witnessed spate of kidnapping incidents perpetrated by criminal elements in a bid to further their selfish pecuniary and/or criminal interests. In furtherance of security measures initiated to checkmate this trend, series of special tactical operations were carried out by this Service, where successful arrests of masterminds of these criminal gangs were made by the Service, while their hide-outs were decimated.

2. On 7th June, 2016, one Kabiru SHUAIBU, the ring-leader of a kidnap gang, comprising his accomplices namely: Haruna SALEH, Tukur SHUAIBU and Abdulmumuni ADAMUNA, were arrested by the Service along Murtala MUHAMMAD Bridge, along Lokoja-Abuja Highway, in Lokoja, Kogi State. The suspects were part of a criminal gang which has been terrorizing innocent citizens in the Northern region of the Federation. During their arrest, a locally-made pistol, seven (7) cartridges, fourteen (14) mobile phones and six hundred and fifteen thousand naira (N615,000) were recovered on them.

3. On 8th June, 2016, one Reuben AKINBEHINJE aka Chairman, the ring-leader of a notorious kidnap syndicate, was arrested by this Service in Akure, Ondo State, along with five (5) other members of his gang namely; John Imoleayo UCHE, Seun LAJUWON, Seun Iseoluwa AKINTAYO, Lateef Fayemi HAMMED and Saheed OYEWO. The AKINBEHINJE gang has been the brain behind the kidnap of two Catholic nuns in the State and other criminalities such as armed robbery, hijack and diversion of fuel tankers and cult-related activities in Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Lagos and Kwara States.

4. Similarly, on 12th June, 2016, this Service arrested one Ifeanyi Michael ONYIKE, a suspected kidnap kingpin at D-line, Port Harcourt in Rivers State. ONYIKE was involved in the kidnap of Ebere CHINDA, wife to Igo CHINDA, the Personal Assistant (PA) to the Minister of Transport, Rotimi AMAECHI.

5. Further to this tactical offensive, on 25h June, 2016, in one of the North-Western States, one Sani ABDULLAHI, and his three accomplices, namely Rufai Tukur ABDULLAHI, Najeeb ABUBAKAR and Abdullahi AHMED, were apprehended by this Service. The group has concluded arrangements to embark on serial kidnap of high-value targets in Katsina State, before their arrest. This gang has hitherto been terrorizing the North-Western States of Kano, Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara.

6. In a bid to stem the activities of vandals in the Niger Delta, this Service effected the arrest of Selky Kile TORUGHEDI, on 17th June, 2016, in Calabar, Cross River State. TORUGHEDI is an ex-militant and suspected member of the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), and was arrested for planning to assassinate one MB.YAHAYA, a serving military officer. TORUGHEDI, who is a close associate of Government EKPEMUPOLO (aka TOMPOLO), had already conducted surveillance at the residence of YAHAYA in Kaduna, preparatory to his plot when he was intercepted. He is also fingered as a sponsor of pipeline vandalism in some States in the South-South region. Suspect is currently assisting the Service, with critical leads.

7. In a related operation, this Service arrested one Christian OLUBA aka SENSOR, another suspected militant with the Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). SENSOR was arrested while perfecting plans to carry out explosive attacks on critical oil and gas pipelines, including critical storage points.

8. Meanwhile, sequel to increasing threat posed to public peace by the activities of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), this Service arrested one Chidiebere ONWUDIWE, a graduate of Mechanical and Chemical Engineering and known member of IPOB, on 22ndJune, 2016. ONWUDIWE and his associates within and outside the country, were planning to carry out coordinated attacks against religious bodies/edifices, Police-Check Points and the computer village in Ikeja, Lagos State, with Improvised Explosive devices (IEDS). The suspect was apprehended while making logistics supplies for their nefarious plan.

9. In another development, on 19th June, 2016, at Langtang North LGA in Plateau State, this Service in liaison with the military and Police, arrested one Nanpon SAMBS (aka Yabam), an illegal arms dealer. SAMBS is a member of a notorious black market arms syndicate led by one Peter NEHEMIA (aka Adagyo) which operates in the State. A Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher and circuit charger were recovered from a Toyota Highlander SUV belonging to the suspect.

10. Also, this Service wishes to alert the general public to be wary of suspicious packages and persons, as celebration of the Eid-el-Fitr approaches. The Service is availed of intelligence which indicates threat by extremist elements to attack selected locations across the Federation, particularly parks and congregations of worshippers, in order to further their cause.

11. The Service wish to state that it will continue to deploy every window within its constituted mandate to ensure the security and safety of all law-abiding residents and citizens wherever they reside. We therefore call on the general public to be security-conscious and to report any suspicious persons/groups or activities to relevant security agencies.

How system does not encourage locally made innovations, it rather kills or discourages young scientist and engineers. There are a lot of guys that av being working on locally made drones and these guys should av being recuited long ago to help develop drone technology with the help from countries like China.

because of the underground thing/secrecy way we deal when it comes to arms/hardware procurement its very hard to tell the exact numbers of t-72 we have in service currently. Some say 16 and some 70plus. But there is one thing I know for sure and that av seing with my own eyes .there are more than 16 units of t72 in our inventory.

The first batch of 16 T72m1 which where delivered by antonov heavy aircraft cargo. The t72 AV where delivered through shipment and transported to the north eastern frontlines. During the trial of the former NSA sambo dansuki claimed his regime bought 20 BMP1. He also claimed they bought over 100 Bigfoot MRAP but from a video I watched on youtube , the present NSA was in China and made mention of "30 units" they bought are rugged and they are doing well in the north east frontlines.

Still on the issue of t72 av seing like 2 units in Ojo military cantonment in Lagos , quite a few in jaaji zaria these same year and there is still quite numbers of units in the north east. Along Lagos -ibadan express way immediately after redemption camp av sighted four low-birds transporting t72 av covered with these kind of military shelter with holes used to cover them and am sure they are heading to the north.

My conclusion is you cant really tell the exact units/numbers placed when it comes to our defense procurement, especially the Nigeria army.

To ur last question the first 16units where T72 MI and the test which came through shipment are originally T72 AV types.

Maritime security: House c’tee seeks intervention fund for Navy


The House of Representatives Committee on Navy has called on the Federal Government to consider a special intervention fund for the Nigerian Navy to enable efficient tackling of the increasing piracy attacks in the Gulf of Guinea and rising militancy in the Niger Delta region.
This is as the committee commenced a nationwide inspection of naval facilities, as part of oversight efforts to proffer modalities to tackle the growing need for an effective maritime security in Nigeria. The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abdulssamad Dasuki, speaking at the Nigerian Navy Headquarters in Abuja recently, said the Navy needs the special intervention, similar to that being done for the North-east region of the country.
“The provision of such funding can support the immediate purchase of equipment and any logistics requirements which may be required for any naval operation…Federal Government to consider the presentation of a Maritime Security Supplementary Appropriation Bill for the immediate equipment purchase,” he said.

“We will assiduously put effort in collaboration with other committee members to create awareness on the need for increased funding for the Navy, and even consider channelling to Navy budget, all funds previously paid to private maritime security firms by NIMASA and NNPC for maritime security and other pipeline security arrangement,” Dasuki added.
The Chairman added that as the insurgency in the North East is being contained, proactive steps need to be taken for new treats and resurgence of other security challenges.
He noted that there are several emerging security challenges confronting Nigeria in the sector, in the Gulf of Guinea, and in recent dynamics affecting critical national infrastructure in the Niger Delta region.
The nationwide inspection is to be conducted at naval establishments and installations, to take note of present challenges and explore avenues to support efforts of naval internal security operations.

Boko Haram invade Borno village, steals foodstuffs, livestock


Boko Haram struck Dile village in Askira-Uba local government area of Borno State torching some buildings and stole all foodstuffs and livestock in sight.
It was gathered that the insurgents who shot sporadically during the siege on the village met an empty village as all the residents had fled into the hills and surrounding bushes.
A drunkard, a son of the late village head (Lawan) was however not too lucky as he was too drunk to flee when others were and was caught by the insurgents who woke him up from his deep slumber before shooting him dead.

A resident of the town, Clement Satumari, who spoke to our correspondent on phone, said the insurgents invaded the village in their numbers about 7pm on Friday and shot all through the night.
He said the villagers were lucky to have detected that some people were laying siege to the village and were waiting for nightfall to launch an attack.
He said this made everyone to flee into the surrounding hills and bushes before the insurgents could launch an attack.
Satumari said immediately it was dark, the insurgents invaded the village and shot sporadically and even razed some buildings.

TROOPS AMBUSH BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS IN KUKAWA


At the early hours of today, troops of 118 Task Force Battalion, 8 Task Force Division sprang a surprised ambush on some elements of Boko Haram terrorists along Gerere Junction, Kukawa Local Government Area, on the northern part of Borno State.

The Boko Haram terrorists were suspected to be fleeing from the advancing troops of 119 Task Force Battalion presently mopping the general area of Kangarwa in Kukawa Local Government Area.
During the operation, the troops killed 4 Boko Haram terrorists carrying logistics items. The troops recovered 48 Jerry cans containing 1,440 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) Automatic Gasoline Oil (AGO), 8 Motorcycles out of which 2 were destroyed, 21 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, 2 AK-47 rifles, an unprimed Improvised Explosive Device and a 36 Henagar Hand Grenade, as well as assorted drugs. However, one of the military vehicle and communication equipment were badly damaged from gun shots by the terrorists.

The troops have continued to intensify vigilance and high level of alertness following concerted efforts of clearing the remnants of the terrorists.

GROUND TRAINING CENTRE GRADUATES 591 RECRUITS


A total of 591 recruits have passed out over the weekend from the Ground Training Centre, Kaduna having successfully completed their initial 6-month military training. The new entrants into the Nigerian Air Force constitute the Basic Military Training Course 35/2016. The Course started early January 2016 with 596 intakes but 5 of them were dropped for various reasons and were unable to complete the training. The training objective is to inculcate basic military skills in trainees and provide them with general military orientation required for them to function in the NAF. The passing out recruits have all been assigned specialist trades and posted to NAF formations across the country pending the time they would be programmed for specialist training. The next batch of intakes, comprising 1250 recruits are expected to commence training on 25 July 2016 in line with the NAF recruitment projection for 2016.
Addressing the recruits during their passing out parade, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Baba Abubakar urged the recruits to brace up for the challenges ahead in their call to duty. Air Mshl Abubakar informed the passing out recruits that military service is not just a means of livelihood, but a clarion call to serve the fatherland, and which sometimes may require making the supreme sacrifice., The CAS, speaking further as the Reviewing Officer, expressed the confidence in the ability of the recruits to live up to expectations as the training curriculum was recently reviewed in line with emerging security challenges to impact in them the right skills and training needed to deal with any threats to national security. The CAS also used the opportunity of the passing out parade to show the newly installed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) camera on the ATR-42 MPA to the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, who was a Special Guest at the occasion. The NAF, of recent, has deployed the ATR-42 MPA to the northwest in support of Operation Sharan Daji to checkmate the activities of cattle rustlers, kidnappers and armed bandit.
