There must have been obvious signs at the time to indicate Skye bank was struggling.

All these unneccesary mergers and acquisitions.

Prudent bank was doing very well before the bank was acquired by Skye bank. Maybe prudent bank might have been as great as today's GTBank

No wonder, at the bold part!!! First Bank have been sending me SMS of some not too clear and frivilous charges on my acount these few days!

I think the Excos of Skye Bank shouldn't just go free like all the name of resigning. This action of theirs have put so many families into delima to retrenchment of staff and outright sack

Their Chairman is a man Friday to GEJ so acquiring mainstreet bank is just a dinner discussion for him . he invested so much in acquisition of government properties too.

First Bank is in serious financial troubles. They have some really bad dollar loans which they gave out to players in the Energy industry. Unfortunately, the fall in oil prices and rise of the dollar has made the borrowers unable to repay the loans.

Bad market for SKY Bank. Why would not over stretched Nigerians not withdraw all their hard earned money? CBN could have made this secret so as not to scare their customers complicating the issue.

Financial services is a highly regulated sector.

CBN are the regulators of this sector and they have every legal right to dissolve the management of any bank that's being badly managed to the extent that depositors' funds are at risk.

Nah. The sector is specially regulated. This is because it deals more on depositors' funds than shareholders' contribution: trust is primary. CBN is empowered to do so under Banks and other Financial Institutions Act. Unlike other corporate bodies, CBN regulates even the internal affairs of the banks to a good extent. For instance, banks (including microfinance bank and merchant banks) cannot sack or appoint their directors, management staff or external auditors without CBN approval.
