We read 'Oliver Twist' in JS1, 'The Sacrifice' in JS2. 'The Bottled Leopard' was a required text thru JS1-3. Truth be told, I found both very...I dunno, annoying. Oliver Twist always aired on NTA so I never was interested. Dr Lana Siwaju was a selfish prat and I hated his wife Moji for a long time. His mother hung herself and you couldn't even wait till her body cooled before you threw a pretentious party. Darned woman prostituted herself to see the fool through school and all of a sudden, because some wife said somewhere that she embarrasses her, you had to get her locked up in a psyche ward...Hian!!!
Read a lot of the rest tho. Camara, Wa Thoing, Amadi, Ekwensi, Shakespeare (hated the drama). I loved Marriage of Anansewa tho. Darned trickster, the father. Always like our Nigerian tortoise. I read Forgotten Realms series now for favorites tho

Is Samankwe in the Rainforest not the story about a madman?

There is a story book I have been looking for all my life. I am not sure if it is Samankwe in the Rainforest or Samankwe The Madman.

It's Samankwe in the strange forest and it's not really about a madman... it's a boy who came late to school and when his teacher was flogging him for late coming he ran into the forest where he came across a lot of different people and strange things.

Those books were the best, man! I learnt reading with Ralia, the sugar girl. Then after, I read every book I came across. I read the Dark Child by C. M Laye in primary school. King Solomon's Mines is one book I'll never forget. If there is anyway I'd get it, someone, please, tell me.

But all sha, I thank my mom. God bless her. She showed me all. Btw, I'm just 19. Not everyone of this generation isn't sound.

I swear, I love "Joy of Motherhood". Buch Emecheta wrote interesting books, I must say.

Joy of motherhood was very interesting and depicted how things happen in the real world...it was set in Ibusa, delta state where the author comes from that's the only book from Buchi Emecheta that have read.

It was in the late 90's then, never really read meaning to it until i grew older. Really interesting piece. About man's quest for power, vengeance, inability to let go of anger etc it ll really suck you in.

But I have to admit, the writers of those days were really deep. Thank you Wole Soyinka et al. For the memories.
