CSSPATRICK:

IMO, if u just finished NYSC last yr I don't consider it any gap. Of course every VO would understand that it takes almost a full year to work ur way to Canada via study route. From getting admission at one school to applying for study permit. I always believe that some time being honest and keeping your application very simple will save one a lot of trouble. Am not saying that ur answer should be doing nothing (unemployed) but helping ur father is certainly not an employment except ur SOA can show traces of payment from ur fathers company or alternately payslips will suffice. Just an idea. Good luck.

Even if it's a volunteer/unpaid employment anything to show you haven't been idle. Let's face the truth these CIC people don't like idle people.

The thing is.....according to their immigration law, every intending student should be treated as potential immigrants unless proven otherwise by the applicant himself/herself.

In getting a study permit/trv, the onus lies on you to prove beyond any doubt that indeed you're a potential student and not an immigrant. One of the way to show that you're not a potential immigrant is showing that you have/doing something tangible in your home country e.g family ties, job security, landed property, investments etc.

Any doubt in your application may be resolved against you.

The truth is no single application is perfect, however It is prudent to at least do the basic things and don't leave any patent issue hanging for the VO to figure out cos the VOs have so many applications to review. I doubt if any VO has the time to even think about what is or what is not....they adjudge your application base on the documentary evidence before them.

Yes, your socioeconomic backgrounds may help your application one way or the other even though it was clearly stated in their immigration rules never to reach a decision based on socioeconomic backgrounds. Buh let's face it if you as a student studied abroad and has so many stamps on your passport, job security, financial investment etc a VO maybe inclined to believe that you would return to your country at the end of your program in Canada going by your past and current socioeconomic background.

Issue of inconsistency with intending program of studies and past education is just cosmetic reasons for refusal. Who said you can't change your career people do it all the time..buh what can I say.

In any event try to show the VO that you're not a flight risk cos believe it not you're from a third world country and everyone is presume an immigrant until proven otherwise.

These VOs have lots of discretion, the least you could do as an applicant is to help them use the discretion in your favour by presenting a simple, clear and unambiguous application.

Hello,

Good day.

Please am an International student studying Postgraduate diploma in Canada (one year course) am presently in final term(2nd).

I wasn't married while applying for study permit but now am married and I have even changed my name to my husband name in canada.

I want to bring my husband to Canada, can we apply for OWP or visiting visa? If visiting visa, what will be the content of Invitation letter and other supporting documents?

Thanks so much.

That's very easy. Go home get married and then apply for trv and open work permit for your spouse. Spouses of Int'l students are legible for visiting visa and work permit. Better apply now b4 you become permanent resident. Then it'll become more difficult as you'll have to apply to sponsor him which is a very long process.

i am not here to battle words with any1. I speak facts and from experience amongst my friends who are in canada already. If you noted my ending statement i said i was speaking relatively to the concern about the documents listed . Ask people on this thread that if u r idle for a long time/unexplained gaps and you apply for visa..i repeat it again you MUST BE REFUSED on "PURPOSE OF VISIT" and its accomplice. Last month i spoke against about using maple edu.canada agents and 2 people on this thread who used them and i wldnt want to mention their Monikers have been denied.i dont say nonsense or what i don't know i speak facts as i have mastered the Canada study visa system.moreover my close friend used MAPLE EDU.CANADA,paid almost N600k to them and was denied visa last 2months,their family cried wella. I was the one that helped him apply for his GCMS note and the VO noted program inconsistency as the sole reason for refusal.i dont say rubbish here.if that guy above can be sincere,if he has long gap without covering it/unexplained,he won't get this visa.im not here to sugarcoat words..this is from experience which i have never seen any1 overcome even if he goes to shiloh at cannan land and pray day and night. It can't solve it.moreover with the documents the guy listed i never knew he has submitted,i thought he was asking for review so he will proceed to submitting, that has why i made those comments to cater for any long gap if he has one since i don't know when he finished service.

Gastuso ...I don't seems to understand the reason why you drew such conclusion on my personality. Can you please relate me to any post in which I discard the importance of prayers and in the power of the Supernatural? To be honest with you, I dislike attacking someone personality and will never engage in such a scenario in any forum. Or wait a minute, are you mistaking me for someone else? Please you need to clarify this. Thank you

yes....i mistook u for Michv. I was responding on his post on visa refusal on d grounds dat dia existed Gaps in someone's educational Carrier.. I dint intend to attack anyone plssss. was just trying to explain dat God can do everything if u have faith. and his stating on "going to Shiloh to pray n fast " n wouldn't get it made me to think " <<< dat looks atheistic">>>>. am sorry if u got offended. but I still encourage all of us who have submitted our apps to still trust in God. Dats what we av got to do now dat we can't change anything in our already submitted applications. good luck to all if us.

Well done, you are playing smart but not smart enough, how did I get your twitter user's name to add you in the first place, mine is on my Nairaland account which you can easily go through my profile, secondly you are not in my contact how did I send you BBM request, thirdly I don have time for person like you.
What I observed about you is that you are hiding behind you finger, you registered another moniker to hide the former one made the approval you claimed is a denial, you mentioned in one of your comments that you wrote something 2months ago PLEASE QUOTE the post if you want people to believe whatever allegations leveling against me cos I know you registration on nairaland is just about 35days now?
I have no issues with you, I have better things doing wit my time than looking for you when you are not PRV.

I have started my process for UNBC today, Buh I discovered that Edu counselling is only available for Sept resumption nd the deadline for app has even expired, till next year sept.

So I am left with an option to choose between History, interdisciplinary studies or Political science all Masters of Art (MA)

Would hav preferred Political science buh wen I went through the site I discovered that dey accept students with Bsc in Political science, or they admit with special provisions made regarding course work and thesis research programs. My undergraduate course was in Business Education (Accounting Option)

Would this affect my chances. The guy that is helping me with the whole process has told me that it would nt affect me buh I need to be sure.

Thanks ya all for ur advice

NB: my cgpa is 3.46

Yep, you can get a master's admission with that CGPA (though it would require an amazing application as well as a strategic choice of schools). uOttawa on their website somewhere states that they accept 2:2 for some programs (e.g. Electronic Business Technologies and some other programs). @MichaelFinn a long time ago (part 8, I think) got admission to uOttawa with a 2.54 CGPA. I can also imagine that some other schools with a 2:1 requirement may accept a 2:2 student with an extremely good application (excellent recommendation letters, relevant work experience, extraordinary SOP, personal contact with the admissions office, etc).

Your work is cut out for you, but you can do it!

What is your course of interest?

Sorry to take you guys back but im just seeing this argument about cgpa and Masters programme. I have an MBA admission from Laurentian Uni. Undergradute course Agric Econs. Cgpa was 2.85. but after WES evaluation, my recommended Cpga was 3.02 maybe bc it was a 5yr programme. Although I do have a lot of work experience abt 10yrs. I guess that was the positive thing. But then in my offer letter, the uni packed so many foundational business courses that I have to do alongside the MBA which has made my credit load so much. Even though I indicated in my SOP that I've done some mgt prof course. I guess they only consider undergraduate course, not any of these our naija proff courses.
Well my argument is that less than 2.9 can get Master admission in canada, in some circumstance. I may change when i get my TRV to another sch since all those course credit load has made it very expensive. Thnaks

You might want to consider transfer of credits to a university in Canada and register for a degree straight.

Good evening all I've been following this thread for a while haven't seen a case peculiar to mine yet lol.... I opted out of a federal school in Nigeria after 5yrs and I'm intending to relocate to Canada to acquire a college diploma in business administration before completing my degree in a University with the sponsorship of my parents. I'll be needing the house in going about this
