Midfield too small for Rooney. Tell me, was Rooney good as a midifelder?

If your answer is yes, then it is either you are just being funny or your thinking faculty is faulty.

So ask yourself why Rooney has always been praised (over 90%) of the time he played in midfield since Ferguson's era. Even Ferguson used him to do some jobs there and commended him. Get a brain.

Then you should've said Rooney WAS a World class forward...and that's even debatable.

Was it me that started the line of discussion? The person who started it should have put his comment in proper tense and perspective.

Secondly there is nothing debatable if Rooney was world class. You don't get to FIFA XI forward three by chance.

If his star is faded he will not be playing in the EPL. He will be in MLS. The question you should ask is if his star is fading.

Firstly, what has your FA cup trophy done for you? FA cup that Arsenal won back to back prior?

Mou would have valued a top 4 finish from Van gurl than his useless FA cup of tea.

By the way and as a matter of fact, Arsenal did not finish trophyless.
the FA Cup added to our trophy haul & pegged back Arsenal's number to a tie. It is a travesty that a shiit club like Arsenal should hold any record for trophy collection... well except the Emirates Cup tongue

It's better we miss UCL than just another participant.

Rooney asked for a transfer request, at the time Barca, Chelsea, PSG and Madrid were asking for his service. But SAF begged told to stay.

Ferguson: Rooney is going nowhere

Sir Alex Ferguson insists Wayne Rooney will still be at Manchester United next season.
Ferguson left Rooney out of the United line-up for Tuesday's Champions League defeat by Real Madrid, since when it has been suggested the Red Devils boss would be willing to accept an offer for the striker this summer.
However, speaking ahead of Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final with Chelsea, Ferguson denied that was the case.
"He will be here next year, you have my word on that," he said.
"There is no issue between myself and Wayne Rooney. To suggest we don't talk is nonsense.
"He understood the reasons completely. Tactically we got it right. We don't always but we did then.
"There are no issues with the player and he will be involved on Sunday.
"I left out Shinji Kagawa after he scored a hat-trick. I thought I would get more stick for that."
Ferguson is still bitter about the circumstances of Tuesday's defeat, in particular the dismissal of Nani, on which the entire contest turned.
"It is hard to keep your faith when you have things like that," said Ferguson.

Rooney requests transfer
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that Wayne Rooney has put in a transfer request to leave Manchester United.

Last Updated: 13/05/13 10:26am

Sky Sports 

Speculation in recent days has linked Rooney with moves to Paris St Germain, Bayern Munich or Chelsea in the summer.

The 27-year-old forward was omitted from the squad for Ferguson's final game in charge at Old Trafford, a 2-1 win against Swansea, fuelling the rumours of an impending exit.

And Ferguson confirmed after the match that Rooney has asked to leave the club but indicated that he is still hopeful the England international will change his mind.

"I don't think Wayne was keen to play, simply because he's asked for a transfer," the Scot told Sky Sports.

"I think he wants to think things through in his own mind. I think that's a good idea. We're not going to let him go.

"I think he's maybe a bit frustrated at being taken off once or twice in the past few weeks."

This is the second time that Rooney has asked to leave Old Trafford, also requesting a move in October 2010 before agreeing a new deal with the club.

Sky Sports' Gary Neville says the striker needs to sort himself out.

"Wayne is an emotional lad and you can see in the last couple of months he hasn't quite been himself," said Neville.
"Wayne Rooney wears his heart on his sleeve. He fights every refereeing decision. But he has been a bit vacant on the pitch. You can see something is wrong.

"But there is nowhere to go from here. I have seen players join Real Madrid and other great clubs in Europe. But they always want to come back.

"If you play for this club for 20 years it is not a bed of roses. You struggle mentally at times. He will be going through a difficult moment.
"But in a couple of weeks he will be coming away with England. Then he needs to have the summer off and hopefully get his head back to being a Manchester United player."

Neville feels Rooney's family, and agent Paul Stretford, have a crucial role to play over the next few weeks.
"This is a good kid," said Neville. "He needs to surround himself with his family and his players. The ones who have been here for a long time will bring him round.
"He is not someone who will make rash decisions but he needs people around him to give him good advice. He has an agent and friends. They need to be giving him the right advice.

Lekkie073, you see. As at summer 2013, Barca and Madrid had joined the race for Rooney. If he knew he should have gone instead of working with players and managers wey dey spoil leg. Di Maria was very wise, he took off before he could get worse. Nani and Chicha were still sonewhat lucky, dem for end up like Anderson. If not for Rooney's world class brain, he would have been out already. grin

FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED FROM JOSE MOURINHO'S EXCLUSIVE MUTV INTERVIEW
Jose Mourinho shared some of his immediate plans at Manchester United when he provided an exclusive one-to-one interview to MUTV after his maiden press conference.
We pinpointed the following five things that we learned from Mourinho's conversation with MUTV reporter Stewart Gardner, which was first shown on the club's official television channel on Tuesday evening:

TRAINING STARTS ON THURSDAY

When asked how hungry he is to get started, the new manager replied: "I'm desperate! I want to train on the pitch and, in spite of many players not being here to start pre-season, I have a group that is waiting for me on Thursday and they will feel my passion!"

A DIFFERENT STYLE WILL BE PLAYED

Mourinho explained he will bring his own style of football to the club. "Yes, we want to play differently than last season. Mr [Louis] van Gaal is an absolute top manager and his philosophy is very clear. My philosophy is different. It's not better, it's different. My football is different. I am more vertical, I am more intense and I like the ball possession as a way to create a chance to be vertical. I don’t like ball possession as a way to just keep statistically possession of the ball and be afraid to play a game with transitions. Transitions always come during a game. I’m not afraid to lose the ball, I’m not afraid of risk."

WHY WE SIGNED BAILLY

The manager feels Ivory Coast defender Eric Bailly possesses a rare blend of qualities. "It’s not so easy to find a big guy who is really fast. But he is a player that we believe has all the attributes. He is very strong physically and [is also] very fast."

ENGLAND TRIO WON'T PLAY ON TOUR

Although United's England Euro 2016 contingent of Chris Smalling, Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney are set to travel with the squad to China later this month, they will not feature in the games against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City. "I'll take them but I'm not going to play them," revealed Mourinho.

TWO YOUNGSTERS PROMOTED INTO SQUAD FOR WIGAN

Tyrell Warren and Axel Tuanzebe are likely to be involved in the pre-season friendly at the DW Stadium after the two young defenders were name-checked by the boss during the interview. He told MUTV: "I don't know them well but I just trust Nicky Butt, [head of football development] John Murtough and the [youth] structure's judgement, when they say we have a few players who, in a couple of years, can be first-team players."

This kind of asumption is why there is so much argument on this thread. Then there are some whose brains are conditioned to read any news concerning Rooney in the negative. This is why it was hard for these people to comprehend what Mourinho said yesterday.

As for you, no one has argued with you when you said all the players start from same level. No one argued with you when you draw a formation without Rooney.

Wetin be your own sef? Everyone is going to fight for his position. We are also going to have some injuries. For instance people complained last season Herrera was not being used, but when everyone else was injured Herrera was given the chance and he got tired of it. Even if Rooney starts from the bench, it is a long season where many things will happen. May be the rejected stone will be the corner stone. Rooney is like a cat with nine lives.

But wait! You even missed the argument completely. Lekkie073 implied SAF wanted to sell Rooney. But Lekkie073 was wrong.

How did I defend Rooney? I am only making clarification.

Again, Rooney actually defended himself when he came from injury last season. He did very well in midfield, but I actually prefer him in attack. Let him fight for his place there.

well,Rooney is at his best a substandard midfielder and that's a no brainer trying to deploy him there again!
the era of Louis Van Daft is gone with the wind.

Mr Wayne like you rightly said should go fight for his place as the striker he his at default or chop bench!!!

no time for experimentations again!...either you man up and provide competition for your position or you pack your bags and leave!!!!!!

The English NT is cursed because they have 100% EPL players

4 of the starting 11 for the English NT were in the PFA 11, More than any other team the English NT is the closest representative to the EPL and their uselessness can be traced to the EPL

There is no rational way you would take credit for EPL and refuse to take credit for the English NT they go hand in hand

The long well-detailed rebuttal i typed for your post got wiped out by my rascal cousin who won't let my phone breathe. I can't be arsed to re-type it again. So i'll wait till next time this argument will crop up so I can bring up my defence.

Ferguson hails midfielder Rooney

Thu, Nov 3, 2011

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson praised Wayne Rooney's performance in an unaccustomed central midfield role in the 2-0 Champions League victory over Otelul Galati.
The England international played in a withdrawn position in the weekend win over Everton and found himself alongside Anderson for the Group C match because of injuries to Michael Carrick and Tom Cleverley, while Darren Fletcher is working his way back to fitness.
Rooney responded by dictating from deep as it was his long diagonal pass which started the build-up to Antonio Valencia's eighth-minute goal and he rounded off a laboured team performance with a hugely-deflected goal seven minutes from time. "I think he was our best player. He showed great awareness of that role," said Ferguson.
He added: "His selection of passes at times was very good and showed great energy and determination - we got a really good performance out of him. We had injuries and that is one of the reasons we played him there. Cleverley is injured, Carrick is injured, Darren Fletcher played on Saturday but it was better he played next Saturday.
"It was an option for us and a good option because he has all the qualities you need to be a central midfield player. The first thing you have to say about him is that he receives the ball very well.

"He is aided by the fact he plays in a forward role, when receiving the ball is more of an issue but that was an advantage for him. I am not surprised the team we were playing against were aggressive in defending so he has to take credit in being able to handle that part."

Ferguson lauds 'brilliant' Rooney after Man Utd midfield role

3 years ago < 500 READS

M nchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was delighted with the performance of Wayne Rooney in central midfield on Sunday.
The England striker was moved into the middle of the pitch for the clash with Stoke City at Britannia Stadium and Ferguson was full of praise for the way he performed in the 2-0 victory.
"He was brilliant. I was thinking he possibly needed a different role in terms of getting his confidence back. He has been under a bit of criticism, not serious, but there were some doubters nonetheless," he told Sky Sports.
"He's a fantastic player and our job is to get that confidence and form back. I thought a spell in midfield would do him the world of good and it worked for us."

he will excel even if he is used as a goalkeeper vs otelul galati....Rooney of 2016 is not a footballer any competitive team will give a first eleven opportunity...whether as a support striker, midfielder, defender or keeper
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 12:01pm On Jul 06, 2016

Everyone is entitled to his opinion. I know since SAF's era, 90% of the time Rooney has played in midfield he has performed outstandingly well. Some have often said he could be as good as Scholes if he continued there. Same he did under Moyes, the game against West Ham comes to mind.

At Wembley, Rooney bossed the midfield twice in FA semi final and final. Yet they said he cannot pass. If Mourinho implied Rooney cannot pass in midfield, then he wouldn't have penned him for the number 10 where it is more difficult to pass.

Is it only Otelul you saw there? Did you not see he played against Everton? And I thought had Arteta, Barkely, Tim Cahil at the time.

He also bossed the midfield in the Britena Arena in a crucial game in the run in 2012/13 season.

2016
Rooney bossed the midfield in two games in Wembley

He bossed about three league games

He bossed the Russia game and the game against Wales.

This is someone who is not an out and out midfielder.

The formation I put up is what I feel is about the best or close to the best @ the moment. Of course we are yet to see how Henrikh & Zlatan will adapt to the league but that's assuming players are optimum level.

You can put up your own format bros, no fighting.

Something you should know is that this team will not go anywhere while parading 2016 Wayne Rooney as one of its key players. You either deal with that or continue hoping for "Paul Scholes".
