I came here to verify if the conversation would become more about why the op should buy a Toyota and not the Peugeot which his enquiry is purely based on and I was not disappointed. Nigerians and Toyota! Smh. 5 Likes |

angels09: Hello angels, Peugeot cars have one of the best suspensions and they are stable, my attraction to it, 407 not exempted. They may have their own pros and cons jut like any other car. There is no car without issues even the so admired Toyota(if you were to elaborate the issues with "spider" alone, you could run, but then its the best Camry ever build(i'm talking about sophistication, complete turn around). What i'm usually concern about in cars is handling, performance and leisure rides, including prestige. i can trade anything for these things . I keep 3 lovely Merc cars at top shape(100%), which i fix almost everything myself, fuel pumps/filters,alignment and balancing, including changing of brakepads(everything about brakes), water pumps, steering pumps and racks, ac units, diagnoses all my electricals and fix them all by myself etc and have no pains as in cost of maintenance as parts are cheap and available everywhere. Like today i have just finish changing my thyroid/centre thyroid and shocks, and also do my alignment in one of my Merc, being a public holiday. Does that makes me a mechanic? Of course not(but saves me so much money. I do not only fix cars but my generator sets and laptops and every appliances at my disposal but not for the public, even though i'm a programmer by profession. Bottom line, Peugeot 407 is a sweet car, very stable and handles just fine(better than some Jap mobiles), especially the coupe type, so alluring. Her issues are not overwhelming like you put it, and anybody with some interest and common sense can handle them just fine and cheap. 4 Likes |

auhanson: Wrong, spyder Toyota aka Muscle (XV40) is the most Toyota Camry ever built. They were only seeking to appease global market due to their popular demand, they paid less attention to quality and the result is/was clear for all to see. |

The average Nigerians car owner only wants to drive without taking out time to give their cars the desired attention. Even humans require periodic check ups. Another problem is that, many fail to seek information about what car they can acquire and afford it's maintenance. For example, knowing the cost of replacing major parts like engine, transmission, and others is important. If such costs fall within what they can readily afford, then you can say they have a good chance of having a great motoring experience. Cartalk is a good place for demystifying motoring and equipping us even before we become car owners. I have learnt so much from these so called 'Mechanics'. I now understand that my car's reliability depends largely on my usage and maintenance culture, brand of car regardless. 2 Likes |

angels09: After all said and done you didn't communicate anything, all I'm seeing is the usual lazy road side mechanics rants of "oga buy Toyota, all these other cars no strong reach Toyota" , arrant nonsense!!!!! We haven't even entered the security side of it oo, what's the most stolen car in Nigeria........... And to think you called out some people here for seeing the op as "potential atm", I'll love to ask, if you buy the Toyota and it develops issues and you take it to the roadside kazeem, is it fixed for free? Or are you going to come back here to tell me thy Toyotas don't get spoilt? 1 Like |

LastSurvivor: Yes, you can, if that's your desire or what you want. All you need is find a good workshop that understand HDI or Peugeot Diesel engines very well or get your own proper scan tool for the lion and do the checks or diagnosis yourself, if the need arises. Ikenna, Lion King. 1 Like |

LastSurvivor: If i may suggest, for what you have not been living with, i think it is adviceable to buy what you may not need to fly a specialist down(buy what you could easily obtain help, whether online or from neighborhood in your locality) It is just my opinion for the fact that i am not usually comfortable with diesel cars, in a sense that common sense that applies in patrol engine applies differently in diesel engines, few really have information about them..In some cars too, you really need to be wary of the some routine clean up of the combustion systems and so on as you get to certain mileage, not so comfortable with(though modern diesel runs cleaner than the olden ones, but diesel is diesel). For the HDI system, or the diesel-electric hybrid, i dont know how many Nigerian garages could handle it if it should malfunction(the efficiency may be inviting for the diesel engine but also consider the possibilities of HDI fixes, especially for the fairly used type, anything can happen. Hence, do your homework well before dabbling into it. Good luck. 2 Likes |

Blankstare: Not only that.... I have witnesssed several peugeot owners who learnt mechanic trade by force waking and coming everyday for months to the workshop.... to the extent that he became finished financially that the techie had to be buying food for them..... ain't gonna tell anyone peugeot is cool, except you are in KD or Lagos... even then it could still be hell... if you are lucky to know gazzuzz great, ikenna351 doesn't sound too nice on the phone most times.... I am not going to advocate any brand but I know peugeot cars are pure evil on wheels... all the economy savings will be spent in a day when the evil comes knocking! 6 Likes 2 Shares |

my personal view from ownership of a peugeot. Pros Sweet to drive, great handling, great fuel economy, no one breaks into it to steal parts, no one takes it at gunpoint. Cons It's a crappy car with poor 2nd hand value, and when it's brain touches (which is very often) (coils, CTS, BSI) it can be very annoying. Gazzuzz the kazeem king 6 Likes 1 Share |

angels09: Oh yeah! Sure you do, hi. angels09: Well, European cars are very difficult and expensive to maintain, beside Merc. Peugeot 407 may not be as bad as Rover, try it and you will ever regret it for life. I have seen some poor guys still drive and maintain their Peugeot 407, but my rich doctor friend could no longer maintain his V6 Rover, after spending the equivalent amount he bought the car on repairs just to correct some certain error he caused(transmission fluid dried up, and he drove the car like that unknowingly until the transmssion parked up.That caused him a new set of transmission and an engine swap), which did not even work at the long run. 1 Like |

Ikenna351:So your saying if i fuel a 406 and a 504 with 10liters of fuel and drive to anambra from enugu, the 504 can reach without guzzling fuel , btw i have a 404 for sale incase, i see your blog |
Re: Peugeot 407: What Is Your View? by Ikenna351(m): 7:55pm On Jul 22, 2016 |
kengodson: Last year, I drove my 1986 Peugeot 505 V6 stick from Abuja to Kaduna (about 200 km) and it consumed 18 liters of fuel in the entire journey. However, I have also done same distance with same lion with fuel consumption higher than 18 liters. On highway, it's not the vehicle that determines fuel consumption. It's the driver. As for Peugeot 504, Anambra to Enugu (Awka to be precised) is less than 90 km. If my 505 V6 can be that fuel efficient on 200 km journey, then 504 with 4-cylinder engine will do the 90 km journey with less than 10 liters of fuel. Peugeot 406 will consume less, if that's what you are asking. Ikenna, Lion King. 2 Likes |
