Nigeria sold a total of 190 billion naira ($673.76 million) in treasury bills on Friday with maturities ranging from three months to one year, with yields broadly flat, fixed income dealers said. The central bank sold 28 billion naira of the 3-month treasury bills at 9.98 percent compared with 9.99 percent at the June 22 auction and 42 billion naira worth of the 6-month bill at 12.24 percent against 12.30 percent previously. The bank sold 120 billion naira worth of the one-year paper at 14.99 percent, the same rate as at the last auction. Africa’s biggest economy issues treasury bills as part of measures to finance the government budget deficit and also to help manage liquidity in the banking system. ($1 = 282 naira). Hello Everyone. ! Fantastic job on this thread, I love the flow of information. Please assist me with answers to some questions; Do banks give a lesser interest rate on treasury bills even after auction (if you do not bid)? Thing is, I contacted first bank to make enquiries about their interest rate, the lady told me it was 7.5% for a 91day bill as at the last auction and that there wasn't any auction in the last few days because of the holiday. Also, please advise what bank offers a solid and genuine interest rate for T-bills. Please help! |

Timmi:WtF! Almost 15% in discount rate oh with 17% in true Yield, DAMN! By my calculation an Investment of 20million will yield 3.5million anually, HOLY SMOKES!!! Treasury bills is Blood money & Hidden treasure. If this rates remain like this for 5yrs eh, with the power of Compounding interest. Ur money go BLOOWWW 2 Likes |

Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Nobody: 6:58pm On Jul 12, 2016 |
@Chukzyfcb Inflation is at 15% , Meaning treasury bill is not really an investment let just say to keep up with inflation, After inflation the real interest might not be above 1%. Is that what u called Blood money & Hidden treasure ? In a lay man term,After ur 15% from treasury bill mature u go market everything dan add extra 15% ...so wat did u gain? But it better than keeping money in savings that all. http://www.tradingeconomics.com/nigeria/core-inflation-rate |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Chukzyfcb(m): 7:06pm On Jul 12, 2016 |
Tritri:So that's why you went all out on me. Bruh I don't need your link to understand your point. Yes inflation is 14% while T.bills is 15%, but then how many investment can offer you such returns annually. Real estate rental yield in lagos & abuja gives 5-8% annually. Stock has been on a bearish run despite the dividends sharing, which is deadly I ask you again Mr economics, which Investment will give better returns? Mschew I tot u had something to say sef. 5 Likes |

@Chukzyfcb I c... U're still a kid..when you start working keep ur money on treasury bill. And when u start spending tell everyone u did blood-money. For investment better dan T.B, Go ask Biz men. U Wondering why people still invest in real estate even with it 7% go and read from page 1 . The USA inflation rate just 1.10% , There T.B rate below 1% Annually. what does that tell you? So ur country interest rate at 15% and it blood money why dont u go GHANA and do T.B cause there rate is 24% . Did you just finish SEC school? |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Chukzyfcb(m): 7:36pm On Jul 12, 2016 |
Tritri:I would have gone to ghana to invest but my reseArch has shown they don't Allow non citizens to. Plus I'm at risk of exchange rate fluctuations. IF only you knew the power of compound interest, you wouldn't be saying what you are saying. I want to let you know that. If you invest 20million Annually in tbills of discount rate of 15% for 5yrs. Your 20million will turn to 45million naira.....same time if you buy a Plot of land for 20million today, in 5yrs U CANNOT sell that same piece of land for 45million. Its almst impossible. That's the Power of Compound Interest. Don't mention business jeez you must be a Kid!, when Investment is discussed what they talk is - T bills & Bonds - stocks - commercial paper & Banker acceptances - real estate - Valuables like art work or Gold No Investment teaching manual or Book discusses business. In Investment talks are on ; how money works for you. In business, you work for your money. You don't sound thAt smart to me. Raise your argument not your voice 5 Likes |

Chukzyfcb: Go school And learn u no go gree..Innitial Gra gra dey worry U. ,we talking about interest rate . ur talking about compound interest , with inflation ur only money is still your 20M. For your Info.I owe a Bonds worth over 100M...Yes and am regreting that now. why..as at then the rate was 12.54% which seems to be the best..4month later rate is 15%...who's losing? Finally u seems very smart..Why not go put ur 20M on T.B then start dreaming how to buy a range rover because you just did blood money . Real Interest Rate' The real interest rate is the growth rate of purchasing power derived from an investment. By adjusting the nominal interest rate to compensate for inflation, you are keeping the purchasing power of a given level of capital constant over time. For example, if you are earning 4% interest per year on the savings in your bank account, and inflation is currently 3% per year, then the real interest rate you are receiving is 1% (4% - 3% = 1%). The real value of your savings will only increase by 1% per year, when purchasing power is taken into consideration. Another one Real Interest Rate = Nominal Rate – Inflation Rate It’s important that the real interest rate be positive so that a lender or investor knows he’s beating inflation. If the real interest rate is less than zero, then the rate being charged on a loan or paid on a savings account is not beating inflation. The lender or saver would be losing money from a purchasing power perspective. For instance, Fred has $1,000 and wants to buy a refrigerator that costs that exact amount, but he doesn’t need the refrigerator until next year. So Fred places the $1,000 with his bank in a one-year certificate of deposit paying 5% interest. This 5% is the nominal rate. If inflation is 6% then, using Fisher’s formula, the real rate of interest on the CD is negative 1%. At the end of the CD’s term, Fred receives $1,000 plus $50 interest. But because of the 6% inflation the price of the refrigerator is now $1,060. Fred’s $1,050 is now not enough to buy the refrigerator. From a purchasing power perspective, Fred actually lost money over the one-year term @Chukzyfcb As i said earlier Innitial gra gra...Local Champion. 4 Likes |

Tritri:HAhaha I wAs waiting for you to say that & you just did. You are in the T.bills thread & you Don't know the meaning between discounted rate & true yield. You think tbills is like fixed deposit where you just see the discount rate & calculate it like simple interest, hehe. Mr tritri you need to go to a financial school. I set the trap for you &you just embarassed yourself. I wouldn't argue with you again. I don't want to be sharing out my secret findings just to prove shit to you. |
Re: Treasury Bills In Nigeria by Chukzyfcb(m): 7:59pm On Jul 12, 2016 |
Tritri:You are not smart now! With bonds you lose out on compound interest. T bills allows you to be flexible & cash in on increasing rate. With Bonds, rule out the possibility of benefiting from a compound interest....I'v compared a 5yr plot of land to a 5yr tbills & you don run hehehe.......yeye dey smell |
