ASUU Attacks JAMB Over New Admission Model

The Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU), University of Ibadan chapter, has faulted the guidelines released by the Joint Admission and
Matriculation Board(JAMB) for admission of candidates into Nigerian tertiary institutions stating that JAMB acted beyond its powers.

According to the union, the Senate of Nigerian Universities has the mandate to regulate admission modalities as each university has standards which are not subjected to the whims and caprices of any government appointee.
Speaking, the Chairman of the union, Dr. Deji Omole, said both the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, and
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, first got it wrong by going against

Don't be confused,ASUU is just pouring out their mind.

I know some skuls like UI will fault Jamb format as they do not trust jamb to conduct credible examination neither do they trust waec to conduct free and fair examination.

Skuls like UI believe it can only trust its exam to bring in the best.

OAU will definitely support them don't forget DIBU was drafted from OAU so he must have gotten the backing of his people.

Unilag will not support as it gives few admission slot to their in house program which they trust to a large extent. It therefore means that they can admit 15 direct entry for MBBS, 25 for law. Na Unilag suppose stand against it the most.

My personal submission: I think the format is fair enough. There is no format that won't have its shortcoming.

The best format might actually be that each skul conduct its own exam. scrapping jamb but that's not possible in the interim.

hmm...letz see wat tomorrow will bring.I think they should all sit down and talk with the use of common sense this time around and probably a PASTOR/IMAM cos they seem possessed.

itz not uploaded yet though got info from an underG that list has been sent to school,so unilag gat list of those eligible already.Jamb shuld upload list within this month stay turned.

Since the commencement of the CBT, there has been much technical problems that affect candidates which results into complaining or even protest. Now this method of admission JAMB is using is a very welcome method but, what if the problems in CBT continues or can't be addressed, it will now be as "luck" which means it's not how well you prepare that will determine your score but how well the CBT goes.
Then admission won't be for the mighty ones but for the lucky ones.

In the area of O'level, expect much more "miracle centers" as no one would be chasing Cs, even the less brilliant ones.

Depending on JAMB at first instance is a big mistake and now on the o level i the biggest of all.Now miracle centers will increase thr price and most ppl will be coming for screening with all As.I think JAMB and FG have something fishy and itz surely a crooked way.The dumb modality wateva is total mistake...JAMB should be sent packing or else they came bck to PPT.

Guys u all shld go to www.jambscreeningcalculator.com ND check ur admission stand. It's nt d official list though. It's jux to knw ur stands. It's free anyway. No harm in trying. Jux follow d steps correctly

From Jamb's website you can find that they said the point grading won't favour students, which means they are not using it, as long as you have c6 and above in your 5 important subjects, your o'level result is very useful. Also, from what you posted...Jamb also said no other screening like oral or test should be conducted by universities. The screening is only verifying waec and jamb results, and other things. So, there's no stress on Waec. They are not using the point method, therefore it can't increase special centres. [/email]
