chydon24: Your misconception is of the highest order. Even the past administration of Goodluck Jonathan knew very well that there is crude deposit in the North East, and any possible drilling will spell doom to the Niger Delta region and break their monopoly on the nation's resources. And most importantly to those Nigerians that don't know, it's better you know the truth today about the Boko Haram insurgency, Jonathan deliberately gave a blind eye to their activities so that oil would not be drilled and for the economy of the region to be brought to its lowest level. Remember late Gen.Abacha had wanted oil drilling to commence in the Chad basin since 1998. 2 Likes |

Why do we have to fight over nothing. Nigeria got to this stage because our leaders refused to see beyond stealing. Note that Nigeria is a GAS country, filled with IRON ORE and ALUMINUM (Ajaokuta), with excess BUTMEN and LIMESTONE. crude oil is just 1/100 of what can make money for Nigeria. so called NDA will go extinct by 2017 when this government will have fully diversify |

this is a welcome development, this will help our dear country to tighten its coexistence. we don't hv to abandon Ndeltan resources, I think we should combine the two in order to nourish our economy |
Re: Crude Oil Drilling In Lake Chad Basin To Start Soon by Cityguy: 10:27am On Jul 09, 2016 |
To me it is good development. Let them also pollute their environment. Let them also have something to contribute to the centre. If this is done, perhaps their resistance to resource control would lessen or vamoose altogether. They must not finish the reservation I the South first and then say bye-bye. Let it be going together, paripassu. At least since boko boys who wanted to corner that region cos of its oil have been roundly and technically defeated and can only attack soft targets (according to official government parrot), it is fair that we also share the proceeds together since it is God that put it there. Lest I forget, I hope nautical miles experts will not come up with silly excuses as to why it should be for Niger republic and not 'Naijeriyans'. |

piagetskinner:Hahahaha. That diversification into agriculture or wetin you call am na for paper only. I was more convinced when Adesina held sway in that ministry with support of the government of the day. I remember it was that time fertilizers distribution chain was modified to ensure farmers got them at subsidised rates. Youths were encouraged given what they were seeing at that material time to go into agriculture. I started hearing of 'Koko gaari' etc. What happened next? Everything changed and those gains have been sadly reversed. The long and short of it is that we are still heavily dependent on oil and might , I'm afraid, be so for more long years. |

Candyrain: What makes you think I'm so bothered about Niger-Delta? You know that feeling you get when you are walking along a street and you see a two-year old baby playing with a very sharp knife? That feeling that makes you instinctively want to go and collect the knife from her and maybe scold the mother, that is the feeling I have for the people in this area. Unfortunately for you, y'all are adults and it makes it worse. |

It is a strange argument to suggest that Delta People should be worried or concerned if oil is found in commercial quantities in the North or West of Nigeria. Why should they? Nigeria as one nation exploited and distributed the wealth derived from Delta Oil to service and develop the Nigerian State, as should be the case. This helped to make Nigeria the most powerful and wealthiest Nation were black reside anywhere in the world or history for that matter. Likewise, if oil is found in commercial quantities in the North or West, proceeds will be ploughed into Nigeria and all will benefit as all benefited from Delta Oil. And in the unlikely event that oil discovered elsewhere in Nigeria suddenly ceases to become a National asset but a regional one, well then Delta State still has oil. The only issue Deltans should concern themselves about, in the advent of commercial quantity oil in other regions of Nigeria, is the improbable neglect or abandonment of Deltan oil to Militants and their sponsors. If this happens, the area will descend into depravity and conflict. To prevent this, Deltans as a whole need to wake up and be more proactive in terms of determining what happens to their wealth. The people of Deltans should not and must not be deceived into thinking that the militants are fighting for their interest. The militants are not fighting for their interest neither is the Delta state leadership or leading politicians. These people are all in cahoots and probably in conjunction with foreign interests, which include the oil companies themselves. While, the Deltans cannot do without the duplicitous oil companies, which have the expertise, Deltans can and should begin to look to forming grassroots movement which covers a broad base ethnic appeal. It should, i suppose borrow a lot from socialist philosophy of collectivism, but be democratic and market savvy. I'm thinking of something along the movement began by Obiageli Ezekwesili, pictured below: The Delatan peoples' need something with broad spectrum of people power in order to SAVE-OUR-OIL ltd and environment for the just and equitable benefit of all Delta communities specifically and all Nigerians generally. DO NOT ABANDON TO MILITANTS! Or you'll all rue the day |

Hard knock on Niger Delter! Now that your boys have shot down all your mesure source of generating revenue in the name of cripling the # economy, that only a state is rich of restoring back to function. I'll plea with the northeast to not only produce oil for your consumtiom but with food and live stock for your feeding so you can be stong enough in distroying the fresh air in the region. |

If Chad can be exploring its oil from the same Lake Chad basin, who says oil can't be on the Nigerian side too. That was how they said Lagos cannot have oil and the rest is history today. Ondo cannot have oil and the rest is history today. Ogun State is also loading. The sooner the oil exploration starts in NE the better for us all. It balances the scale of power and render the over heard slogan of ''our oyel'' useless and DOA. 1 Like |
