Willie2015:

Average milk yield per female cow is 1 litre per day which is poor when you compare with the 30 litres per day in the article below.

Govt/Dangote need to intervene with free artificial insemination and force Fulani/Individual Investor to adopt zero grazing. Thats the way forward.
It's more than 1 litre. I've seen with my own eyes. I'd should be about 10 litre.
I do buy for my dogs every morning.

Our indigenous cows cant give you 10 litres

The country’s average daily yield per cow is 0.5-2 litres from indigenous breeds. ( Source Sahel Capital)

the most you can get from a local cow, eg Sokoto gudali is 5 litres. but the average still remains BTW 1 and 2 per cow

If i were to begin commercial milk production,at whatever scale, what would the uptake be like? That is to say, can i be assured that Nigerians would provide a steady market for milk and milk products.

Does milk consumption vary by region?

Te reason i ask this is i read a news report that Shonga farms run by the oyibo farmers from Zimbabwe were forced to pour out excess production by their cows.

Nigerians general do know what fresh milk is,most are use to powered milk. yogurt, traditional nono done by fulani.if you really what to sell fresh milk in Nigeria think of ideas like fresh milk Despenser(milk ATM) in established shopping malls in Lagos or Abuja or .people going to such palaces are mostly likely to try new things. processing fresh milk into yogurt is what most dairy farms do in Nigeria.

Innovative marketing. Many supermarkets in Kenya are now attracted to having a Milk dispensing machine (Milk ATM) within their space. Some are owned by the supermarkets while some by another entity that pays the supermarkets for the space being used. There are some who are independent, they own their own space and sell bread, eggs etc alongside the pasteurized milk. The dispensing machines are of varied capacity, 250 litres, 500 litres, 1000 litres.

Milk coy also have to fulfill the required 10% local content, most of these coys still rely on importation as such they should be able to mop up your production.

I want to know the breed so one can look into it for the possibility of Artificial insemination.

We get to buy 5 litres of raw milk directly from dairy farmers for $1.60.

I don't know the breed add in not into herding. but I think he has like 3 different breeds.
he has one stout looking black and I think white female and another with horns looking like a bull used by cow boys. They're just part of a mixed farming of poultry, pigery and fishery

I don't think there exists a local breed that produces 10 litres of milk per day from a healthy lactating cow at peak production. Certainly not the white fulani breed. @Pavore9 has a point. Maybe you might elaborate your claim as literature indeed confirms the breed I have just mentioned produces 1-2 litres perday.

Why would anyone pour money away? You can turn your milk to yoghurt or cheese for sale. These products move very well. Processing your milk I have more profitable than selling milk

First get an an idea of the breeds we have locally and their productivity, should you want to get involved with artificial insemination. If you need to visit a dairy farm in Kenya, get in touch with them and request for a month's understudy and they will let you know what in entails or there is a well known farm in the Eldoret region that offers a 5 day practical training course in dairy farming and it costs $150. Check out the link for details.
