nacozee: Very true and that will happen when the gap that has been existing before you and i got to where we are is filled namely affordable health care, hospitals and qualified doctors. And don't just assume that as a pharmacist I'm in the retail sector. |
Re: You Are Not Doctors! Nigerian Man Who Nearly Died From Error Blasts Pharmacists by yetseyi(f): 4:05pm On Jul 10, 2016 |
I have always said it that a large percentage of the problems plaguing the Nigerian health Carr system will be solved if these health workers work in synergy. Besides we don't have a perfect system in naija thats why I smile at some of the comments. |

yetseyi:The problem with the sector lies on envy, jealousy, greed, inferiority complex comin from those who dont like their position and where God has placed them. If we all stick to our responsibilities, roles, and work limits, the sector wu b sweet. God bless all. |

theuniqueone: Hello sir/ma. So you don't know pharmacists could be called Doctors. I think I have a problem with your education. Pls Check or read up on the Doctor of Pharmacy degree (PharmD). Pls, for the fact that you are a professional, refrain from making this kind of comment. I can send you materials on this if you are interested. Above all, make your personal research. Thank you. |

Lisaflex:Pls, educate me on the reaction to Azithromycin. After that, I will send you materials on where Azithromycin has proven useful to asthma patients. This is obviously an idiosyncratic reaction which the pharmacist is not responsible. And for the records, macrolides are the preferred choice for respiratory tract infection especially cough in relation to the Floroquinolones 1 Like |

PharmAlfred: I am not a big fan of the pharmacists, but if she gave azithromycin and not fluoroquinolones for respiratory problem then she did nothing wrong(textbook antibiotic treatment). Its sad he got a reaction from using the right drug for his condition..shit happens |

Re: You Are Not Doctors! Nigerian Man Who Nearly Died From Error Blasts Pharmacists by PharmAlfred: 5:36pm On Jul 10, 2016 |
I think the major problem is that many people do not have the facts of the case. We all immediately jumped into our judgement and conclusion mode and started bashing the pharmacists. For the records, the young man did not go the pharmacy with a prescription. I sympathize with him and I hope the Adverse Drug Reaction has been duly reported. Before he rushed to the media, he should have done some background check and besides, he claims his parents are both medical doctors. They should have known better to educate their son about idiosyncratic reaction or adverse drug reactions. He asked for Ciprofloxacin and was given Azithromycin. And Azithromycin is truly better for the condition he complained of. Azithromycin has even proven to be useful in treating asthma. all the information, you need on Azithromycin is just Google away. |

nacozee: Loool who are "those that don't know their position" this statement alone shows you are part of the problem. All of you health workers should work as a team that's how its done in saner places. I am part of those that believe everyone is important. That's how I saw a thread saying that Lab scientists are not really needed I was like seriously? No wonder every fever is termed as malaria. Nigerian health workers need serious deliverance, all of you should better work on how you will work in Synergy because at the end of the day its innocent patients that will pay for it. Lives have been lost because of this simple reason unnecessary beefing everywhere. Its just so annoying. Docs beefing pharmacist Lab sci beefing doc Nurses beefing doc Doc beefing doc. Nurses beefing nurses All of you continue your power tussle you hear while innocent patients are paying for it. I will still say it again that apart from corruption the major problem our health sector faces is this friction between the health workers. 4 Likes |

chichichilolo1:so to treat unproductive cough, I will waste my time in the hospital, on queues and hiring protocols when I can get into a standard pharmacist and have my problem resolved? I'm my clinical pharmacy classes I was made to know that simple treatment and management of disease conditions can be performed by the rxist. you refer when the scope is beyond you, not without advices and counselling. you guys are resisting change yet want to get out of the country where things you are resisting are institutionalized. |

titane:my dear pharmacists are different from doctors.Doctors take a detailed history before théy prescribe any drugs to patients and included in this history is a drug and allergy history that gives thé doctor an insight into a patient 's drug réactions and allergies so as to know which drug should be avoided in that particular patient and to make substitutions accordingly |

eleojo23:why are u not satisfied with ur current role? if u are allowed to make minor prescriptions, u wud stil want more, mayb to become consultants. Why do u find the structuring of ur work faulty that u keep wanting to change it to suit ur taste. why did u not insist on becoming a med doctor if ur zeal was in prescription than in drug dispensing. |

nacozee: Now you sound threatened! Why are you feeling so? Change is a constant thing. I hope you wont have a heart attack if I tell you that pharmacist do residency program in the US and some other countries. For instance, https://pharmacy.uic.edu/departments/pharmacy-practice//residency-fellowship-programs/pgy-residency-program/pgy1-community-pharmacy-residency-program www.hopkinsmedicine.org/pharmacy/residents/ Even Nurse practitioners are now prescribing in some countries. https://www.health-ni.gov.uk/articles/pharmaceutical-non-medical-prescribing It is only a matter of time before it becomes common all over the world. In fact, take a look at the curriculum for the West African Postgraduate College Of Pharmacists, residency is a part of every specialization (including clinical pharmacy) http://www.wapharm.org/pm/webpages.php?id=17 Also, the doctor of pharmacy degree(PharmD) which has more emphasis on clinical practice is being embraced in many countries including Nigeria. You don't need to be threatened. The shortage of doctors and the need to make healthcare easily accessible to everyone has led to the expansion of the roles of pharmacists and nurses. They however still have their limitations. A doctor will always be a doctor, nobody is trying to take that away from them. You guys just have to keep an open mind and embrace the changes and see how everyone can work together. You cant fight the change for long because it is here to stay. 5 Likes |
