@Topic, I lived and worked a bit in Abidjan so heres my piece : WORK : If you don't speak, write and understand perfect French, forget about corporate jobs. BUSINESS: Buying and selling works. Clothes, beauty products, household articles, food items are all hotcakes. the market is mostly controlled by Lebanese, Turkish and Nigerians. Mauritanians and Nigeriens are into mini marts(what we know as stores/small supermarket) . Laundry and bars/Pubs is also another nice biz. Ivorians love their drink, food and women. Restaurants and food kisoks is also profitable but neatness and presentation is a MUST else na you go chop your food. SCHOOL: Don't be deceived, English schools are expensive but worth it. Lots of private Unis especially in Cocody area that teach in English. ACCOMMODATION : For luxury look at Bietry, Riveria, Plauteu, Cocody and Deux Plateu area. For middle class look at Marcory remblais, Trechville, Kumasi, Vridi, France Amerique. Abobo, Youpougon etc areas are for the lowest income earners. However, security, amenities are basically same regardless of which part of the town you stay. utility bills are strictly per as you use meaning each individual has his/her own meters . Light bill comes out and is paid once in 3 months, water every 2 months and its very affordable. Constant light and water is guaranteed and you dare NOT owe for utility. To rent a house, You need to have a maximum of your 3 months rent paid upfront and one month as caution ,total 4 months rent payable upfront. You wanna pay more? at your discretion. Unfurnished S/C in Luxury areas goes from 60,000 cefa per month, middle class starts from 30,000 cefas while in places like Abobo, you'd get from 15,000 cefa per month. Luxury furnished apartments start from 100,000 cefa per month. DOCUMENTATION: Besides your international passport, each individual , citizens and foreigners alike are expected to have two identity cards. Very important and more important than your passport sef. First is the identity card from the Nigerian Embassy then the identity card from Police which also doubles as residence permit. To obtain both are easy and quite straightforward : Go to 9ja embassy, fill out some forms plus your passport photo, your id card is issued withing 2 weeks tops. Armed with the id card, go to any police station close to your house and apply for residence permit. very easy. Without both documents, be ready to be bribing your way out of every police check point (mille Franc) and blimey you can get as much as 10 checkpoints in a 10KM trip, most wont even take bribe but would take you to the police station where you would be made to go farm for free for the Government for 24 hours. FOOD,SOCIAL LIFE : Food is cheap, beer expensive. LOL their women love 9ja men and are quite charming. If you are single, chances are you might end up marrying them. What else? . . . 33 Likes 4 Shares |

I am just fed up with this country and I want to see what outside the country will offer me. I am on a monthly pension of 46k. I have a wife and two little kids aged 7 yrs and 6 month. If we travel to Abidjan, rent a self con apartment, can 46k be sustaining us monthly until I get my stand to go into business? I mean if I live in a middle or average class area? 1 Like |

heaven4me: Cocody is better. The secrete is that any francophone country is better in terms of living, life generally, socialities, business, enjoyment, electricity and freshness. But anglophone countries are cool when it comes to work and hustling. Meanwhile, Cocody is a Commune (area) in Abidjan where the Rich and the Wealthy people live. There you will fine a large number of expats (tourists from around the world) living and relocating in that area, mostly Lebanese, French men, American, South african, Chinese and Europeans, likewise at Zone 4 ( zone quatre) too many europeans live there. goodieuzo: lol.. Thats the community of Enjoyment..Too many Bars and Clubs, Beer houses, Marquis and Brothels ooo .. They will just be disturbing you every Night. Remember, Abidjan doesnt sleep.. the night is always young. Only if you are used to crazy lifestyle, then you should live there, Rich people who live serenelife dont build house there, only the Sex seekers and Yahoo boys mostly live in Yopougon. But you can rent an apartment at Yopougon Sicogi or Lacodjro area.. thos place are quiet and cool. 4 Likes |

vocalprince: 1. You need approximately 20k to transport you to Abidjan. try to go to cotonou first then from there Abidjan is just 10k and lago to Cotonou is jus 2k.other money for border bribery. 2. Chance depend on your French. But dont worry if you dont understand french, you can still get a job. It realy depend on your qualification. french is just an add up. make sure you try to at least know some stuffs in french (will help a lot). Many companies and small bussiness are owned by Nigerians and Ghanians here. so you can still get a job, but might not be a standard one tho. Medical jobs realy need french speaker only if you are a professor. 3. Its not a system, even its not blendable. You have blended with the whole thing as long as you step in the city of Abidjan anytime any day. .Abidjan is always friendly, our national anthem says it all. 'pays de l'hospitalite' meaning COUNTRY OF HOSPITALITY. You cant complain about the hospitality, bet it! only if someone behaves arrogantly or badly 6 Likes |

CHRISTIANO7779: You are the one to decide which business you would like to do. We can't tell you because you have to decide what you are interested in buying from Abidjan and selling in Nigeria. Remember that here in Nigeria, many Nigerians are broke - as in, they are struggling to survive financially - except your client base will focus on the rich and political ruling class. You know they've got money all the time regardless of the economy. Sell to them and you will see good money. Other Nigerians will just keep pricing your commodity for cheap till it frustrates you. 4 Likes |

CHRISTIANO7779: As it has been said that nobody give you ideas, depends on you. But i will just suggest for you: - Buy Clothings there and send to Nigeria for sales (wholesales) - Bags and women acessories (thats still buying and transporting) - If you are capable, open a shop in Abidjan, sell Electrical appliances - If you have money, join the car parts and machine bussiness - Open a marquis fastest profitable bussiness in Abidjan. FOOD HOUSE "allocodrome'' - Beer Houses or Just a shop of retailing drinks and breweries (same as above) - Beauty stuff, marquillage, makeup shop (best), Hair dressing (you will sell like madt), Beauty House JUST GIVING SUGGESTIONS AND IDEAS WILL SHARE SOME PICTURES AS USUAL 4 Likes |
