Nigerians In The US! by Fleure(f): 5:48pm On Jul 12, 2016 |
I've been in the DMV area for 3 years now and I have not met a nigerian that is actually 'straight out of nigeria'. I've also not seen any threads for people who are already in the US so i decided to create this one. If you are new in the US (Maryland precisely) and have questions, ask away! If you need a friend, mentor or someone to show you around, I'm your girl! 2 Likes |

When I realized they had removed it, I was so confused. I read their rules and definitely did not break any rule. Anyway, were you trying to send an email? |

I know what you are feeling. Yankee can be really lonesome if you don't know much people. Everytime you talk to Yankee people they will say "excuse me can you repeat that". People are just working to pay mortgages in a society where you have to careful and watchful everytime. 4 Likes |

Fleure: PG County has a lot of Pure Nigerian Community. Is Laurel not in PG County?that is one of the most Nigerianized places in the State of Maryland. Riverdale,New Carrollton, Baltimore is pure OSHODI. Your question is a strange one that you dont see Nigerians in Maryland. I could have sworn all the Blacks(Africans) i met in my Years there, 3 out of every 5 were Nigerians. 3 Likes |

Electroweb: LOL true! It took me a year to finally get past that 'can you repeat that?' phase. Funny enough, I have a lot of friends, most of them are just black Americans or Africans that have never spent a day in Africa lol |
Re: Nigerians In The US! by Fleure(f): 1:21pm On Jul 13, 2016 |
HungerBAD: You're right. I'm sure there's lots of Nigerians out here. I've met a couple old women in stores speaking Yoruba or Igbo very loudly. But in my school and where I stay, the Africans I'm friends with have never spent a day in Africa. Maybe I just don't go out enough to meet the Nigerians who actually have lived in Nigeria. I agree about Baltimore as well, I have a friend there. It's too rowdy for me though so I never really go there. |

Dreamhigh2016:1) What schools to apply to? Do your research, start from google, ask people. Join a SAT lesson or just study on your own. Write your SAT and TOEFL (depending on your school). If you need more information on the actual process of applying to a school, give me your list of schools and I’ll come up with a detailed process. I have more knowledge on schools in Maryland. 2) Visa? you need to get a student visa if you're not a US citizen. I think it's called an F1 visa. Don’t be nervous. Find useful links all over the internet. Have financial stability/sponsor documented for your interview. not too sure about the details but theres a thread here dedicated to VISA processes. 3) I-20. If your school does not contact you after granting you an acceptance letter to the school, CONTACT THEM! 4) Housing? Do your research, call and ask questions. Try to find a roommate yourself if you hate to go with the flow. 5) Choosing classes. Be careful with your choices in your first year. Check professor reviews (not that important tbh) 6) Socializing. If you want to socialize, you MUST join clubs. 7) Resources. There are a ton of resources in your school, use them! Counselling, Academics, writing centers, libraries, the list is endless if you search. Get an internship, volunteer in an activity. Get a job. |
