Hello house, can any Guru in the house shed more light on this:

Is the speedometer reading in all cars the same? For example, if a Kia Picanto is at 100mph and a Land cruiser is at same speed, will both cars covers a distance of same time?

If the answer is Yes why then 2 cars running at same speed tends to cover different distance?

If NO, does that now mean the speed limit boards vary for different cars?

Thanks y'all..

Between 100kg metal and 100kg cotton wool, which one is heavier?

Op, there's a difference between 'Acceleration' and 'Speed'. That's what is confusing you.

Seems you need to refresh on this formulae:
distance =(speed * time duration of speed)
Cars running at same speed might not cover the same distance because it is not practicable they will be able to sustain that same speed through out that duration of travel .

in simple terms 100 miles in bugatti is the same as in a mini cooper but

then the other equation is

how fast a car can accelerate to certian speed eg on top gear they measure to 60 miles per hour hence the phrase 3secs 0 to 60miles per hour, so how fast can the car reach its top speed

they finally can the car maintain that claimed top speed

Theoretically, a bugatti doing 100km/h is same as a keke napep doing 100km/h. Putting them side by side and at that same speed, they will get to the finish line at the same time provided all things been equal. "ceteris paribus" hehe

An object will remain at rest or maintain a constant speed unless acted upon by an external force. Now newton's law of motion comes into play because all object in the world is been acted upon by a force "gravitational force" not to bore you with too much of physics.

Car speed is influenced by a lot of factors, weight, acceleration, aerodynamics, engine etc.
Let's use a realistic example.

So why is a FORD mustang V8 with top speed of 320km/h faster than a benz V12 S550 with same top speed. That's where horse power, acceleration and weight comes in. Now you need to read on this things to know how race cars work.

I think you guys have missed the point the thread starter is making here.

He's not referring to acceleration. The point here is two different speed readings - actual speed, and indicated speed.

If we're going by actual speed, two different vehicles, starting off from the same point, at the same speed will in theory arrive at the same finishing line, at close to the same. I say close, because it's virtually impossible for two vehicles to build up speed, at the same rate, to the set maximum for the test. Also, the path the tyres take through turns will slightly increase or decrease the distance covered.

Indicated speed is a different matter, and totally inaccurate. Manufacturers are obliged by legislation, to factor in a reasonable error margin. They are designed to over read. The error margin will vary between different vehicles, and this error margin is not linear. So, for example, a vehicle travelling at an indicated 32.5 mph, may actually really be travelling at a true 30 mph. A second vehicle may be indicating 31.9 mph at the same true 30 mph.

These errors will increase, the faster the cars are driven. So, at an indicated 112 and 109 mph respectively, both vehicles may be travelling at a true 104 mph.

In conclusion: Using the speedometers indicated speed, two vehicles on a dead straight 15 mile stretch, starting off at exactly the same speed build up, reaching an actual 70 mph will cover the 15 miles at the same time. But...their speedos will not be showing the same speed as a GPS times.

If all other factors remain constant then aerodynamics is factored in. Coefficient of drag.

Tyre size and other factors affect the displayed speed. It's not always a true reflection of actual speed.

Hmmmm......indicated speed and actual speed..... manufacturers settings vary...makes sense now. I always wondered why when travelling in a Made in Japan Toyota /Nissan whatever it would indicate a much higher rate of speed than ones made in the US. Same for trucks/buses.... they tend to indicate speeds lower than the actual speed.

Speedometer boards, also known as instrument clusters, are an essential part of any vehicle. However, like any other electronic component, speedometer boards can malfunction or become damaged over time. If you're in the market for a new speedometer board, look no further than .

is the leading online marketplace in Nigeria, offering a wide range of speedometer boards from trusted and reputable sellers. Whether you're looking for a brand new board or a used one, Jiji has got you covered. This is a small device that measures the rotation of the vehicle's wheels and sends this information to the speedometer board.

With just a few clicks, you can find the perfect replacement speedometer board for your car at a great price. Plus, with the option to negotiate prices directly with sellers, you can be sure to get the best deal possible.

One of the most common reasons for speedometer board replacement is a faulty speed sensor. If the speed sensor is not working properly, it can cause the speedometer to display incorrect readings or stop working altogether. Due to their location on the dashboard and constant exposure to sunlight, heat, and moisture, speedometer boards can become cracked, faded, or even completely unreadable over time. Therefore, it is important to replace damaged speedometer boards as soon as possible.

When looking for a replacement speedometer board, it is important to choose a reputable seller like .

In such cases, it is important to replace both the sensor and the speedometer board to ensure accurate speed readings.

Another reason for speedometer board replacement is physical damage. This not only affects the functionality of the board but also poses a safety hazard for the driver. This will ensure that you get a high-quality board that is compatible with your vehicle and will last for a long time. So why wait? Visit today and find the perfect speedometer board for your car at a great price.
