you are still getting the wrong. Your pedigree is not a prerequisite for success in most cases. Failure is not an end. It's an opportunity for you to see where you got it wrong, work on it and be successful. Rich people fail, strong businesses fail but when they are termed as "failure" is when they don't get back up. Stop allowing your sentiments affect your thinking and judgements. You are worst than a failure if you are critic about one's failure with your sordid reasons.
now you're talking.

I didn't graduate with a first class, but if I did I would still forget most of what I studied years later, same thing would still happen with other grades too.
Excellent grades will get your foot in the door, but people skill will help you in all aspects of life.
You don't need a to be a straight A student to do what you want in life.

When you get a job nobody says "oh look, he isn't smart he graduated with a(insert any low grade here)" what they care about is how well you do the job.

A very very smart man once said "education is what remains after you must've forgotten what you learned in school"
I am glad I didn't let schooling interfere with my education.

Only foolish people sees "aberrant failure" as a sign of ignorant. The wise people sees it as a step toward perfection.

Meanwhile, on the main subject under discussion, OP you have made salient points. However, the major reason most employers limits their vacancy advertisements to 2.1 is basically to save them time, since there are too many formally "assumed educated" graduates out there looking for the same limited opportunity(s).

In truth, true quantification of an educated person shouldn't be based on what's written in a peice of paper, rather it should be based on the person's aptitude performance at a given time.

Well, if you (OP) have a concrete knowledge on any meaningful art/thing that has a potential for global expansion and guaranteed good ROI, send me a PM and a detailed proposal. Maybe we can work something out, if you have the zeal to work in a well structured corporation as a departmental leader.

But I heard that someone with a 2.2 can't do Msc directly that he/she has to do PGD->MSC->PHD... I don't get it. Can you say something about that?
Above 3.0 can do a direct M.Sc, though there are courses (in Nigeria) that requires a straight 2.1. Example; Occupational Health Safety.

Below 3.0, a PGD is attained first.

@ OP,

• Develop yourself with as much skills as you can afford.

• Try your hands on low capital businesses. E.g, Farming (Snail farming to be precise). It doesn't hurt being your own boss, though slowly & surely, you'll get there.

I see people branding 2:2 grads as lazy and unserious hence their grade.
University is about finding that balance between work and play. It is a place of learning and learning takes place in all shapes and forms, often beyond the class room.

Smart employers do not really care about how smart you were in school. You have to create a perceived Value for them.

What's the value of a book smart student who can't get the job done?

Lol ur post is very First class Abi,what a shame no wonder this nation will not grow,so first class will solve solutions faster

There are other major reasons why Nigeria will not grow.
1. We don't really have any tangible reason to live and work together. A Boundary was just drawn around a land mass and everybody was told, "You guys are Now Nigerians". What does "Being a Nigerian" actually mean? Can you define it?

2. There are over 300 ethnic groups in this land mass. If I got a lecture hall and fillies it up with 300 individuals each representing their ethnic groups of this Nigeria, how will the meeting go?
What common language should they all speak and why? What issues would they resolve whilst each person is speaking his own native dialect and no body else can understand him?

This is Nigeria as we are in. Can you deduce anyway forward?

A typical employer does not care about this and just selects people who can produce his results faster with the small money that he has. First class people. If you feel cheated, go and and form your own business and employ your own staff.

Since there are so many aspiring candidates, the major coorporations use Degree qualification as the first filtering barrier. They are just reducing numbers so their HR can work better. If you were the HR, can you read 100,000 emails and CVs? In 1 day? or 1 month? or 1 year? Can you do it? Of course you will delete many and ignore a lot. Even the First class ones will be too much to read. What will make you consider 2-2 people? You will use man know man? Are there not Man know mans among the First Class people as well?

Corruption has eaten deep in every sector.. Because I didn't follow the band wagon of paying for grades I found myself where I don't want to be 2.2. And since then I have lost interest in furthering the yeye education and now I'm making money that even someone in the bank sector with first class and a lot of working hours can't make.
Don't let that grade deceive you. You are better than that.. White collar job is over rated in Nigeria, some people just like the idea of putting on the slavery suits everyday saying they are going to office just for going sake, while you can put on your jeans and shirt and still make your money.whenever I go to bank.. I always see the staffs there as corporate slaves in suits disguise.

How will you advertise for the position? Because once the 2-2 guy knows he has a chance for that job, all the other 2-2 people in Nigeria - 500,000 will also email you their CVs.?
This is considering you have managed to successfully select out the First Class people from 200,000 or so.

This should be an eye-opener to folks still in school. Be disciplined. Stay glued to the task at hand. Clubbing, d*cks, puss1es, drinking, etc can wait o. Na just eight or ten semesters, not forever. It's not too much sacrifice to give urself that little edge. Life no be beans.

If one reads English for Maths Exam, the person will fail. It is not by Reading Well-well. It is by reading and learning what is spefically required for the First class.

If a First class person was sat beside you and you both were given the same exam questions, he will complete more answers than you. If you asked him how he knows all this answers, he will say he read it in this or that book or hand out.

Question: Did you read the books and handouts that he read? If you were reading different set of materials how do you expect to pass this one specific exam? What were you reading when he was reading his own materials? And HOW did he know WHICH materials to read and WHERE to find them?

This is the mistake 2-2 people make. They start off by dissociating themselves from First class people. Then they are unconnected and lost. They read a lot of irrelevant material. And cannot answer JUST what is required for the PARTICULAR exam.

So why should the outsourcing companies select First Class for you and Select 2-2 as well?
First class, 2-1,... pass are a mark of attitude.
First class people have an attitude of I will find out and do EXACTLY what is required to get the First class. - Focused struggle.

Pass people have an attitude of "Abeg Let my people go jor". Disconnected disinterested.

2-1, 2-2, 3rd class have different mixtures of Let me try, I'm tired. Let me try small, I'm tired. They try but are not persevering enough. They usually don't seek help until things are very late.

Go and study politics. This is your country. Who formed Nigeria? Did they ask you before forming Nigeria?
This is why we have different groups and Militancy's. Each person seeking his own way. This is why politicians prefer to just collect their allowances and jet off instead of providing any type of self sacrificial service to the Nation.

Someone tells Buhari, Your country is full of Fantastically Corrupt people and Buhari does not return the insult. If someone insulted your family to your face, will you keep quiet?

Because we are not a family, that is why Buharu kept quiet. He does not care. None of us care.

YES, you can pay money in many Nigerian Universities to get good grades and even a 2:1.

NO, it is highly unlikely that anyone can make a First Class solely by 'sorting'

NO, it is highly unlikely that you were a strong 2:1 student that got a 2:2 because you didn't want to pay for grades.

These topics never last long before being overrun with people claiming that graduated with poor degrees because 'they refused to sort'

Dude you really need to change your attitude. It isn't helping at all. There is nothing like luck in this world. You aim at what you want. I will stop writing. You are in an education thread as a graduate and your word spellings are terrible and casual. Nobody will take you serious. You need to MAN UP! Take responsiblity.
I am writing you from Experience! I got 2-2. My wife got 1st class from the same University. Our attitudes to life are different. I have quizzed her about the 1st Class and seen exactly where I made my mistakes and got 2-2.

I only sympathise because I too struggled with this your same attitude.
