He need to be doing better though. Did Bailly even make a tackle in the match? Blind did twice but I don't recall Bailly making any defensive play apart from looking fancy on the ball.

@ those that watched the game: which position did Valencia play and how was Jones?

I also think Mikhi works better in the centre with drifting wing forwards. Other than dropping deep into the midfield at times, he was constantly swapping roles with the likes of Depay and Lingard. This alone contributed to our fluid attack in the first half. The 2nd half was a bit dull apart from the goals and Perreira.
I'm saying this already, I would rather Mkhi plays in the middle than a rigid Rooney who wouldn't move an inch from the centre, especially if we have no visionary midfielder to constantly release him on the wing and with Rooney who wouldn't interchange nor drift to the wing to allow Mkhi drift into the middle. The best possible way is to deploy Mikhi in the centre.
I could still remember how Kagawa came into live on the wing as soon as Mata got deployed in the middle. Prior to that, he found it difficult interchanging with Rooney who wouldn't move an inch from the middle.

He was also good in the box-box role in France friendly matches and at the Euros, he did quite well in the holding role before Deschamps decided to move Griezman to the middle.

I still wonder how he got all those goals in the dutch league but well, I'm already coming to terms with it, this is a league Ryan Babel and Dirk Kuyt scored plenty of goals, isn't it?

To be frank, I wasn't impressed by him at the u20 worldcup but I think he's better in a deeper midfield role than further forward (no 10 & wing). His best performance in the Capital cup was in the deep midfield, just like today.
His best performance at the U20 also came when he was subbed in as a CM in their final match after several terrible display as no 10.
Well, we can look it this way. Perriera is at his best further deeper while Pogba is at his best further forward. Both would make good partners.

His agility and close control in tight space are terrible as well. One thing Lingard has working for him apart from his smart decision making is his agility on the ball.
That's why I think striker role would be perfect for Depay if he can work on his finishing 'cos his off the ball movement is fantastic.

That's because the guy usually came on when we were defending a lead and not doing much attacking. Also Van Gaal played him as a winger, while he is decent there his best position is as a central midfield playmaker.

I honestly believe with good coaching and mentoring he can reach Pogba's level maybe even surpass him. His passing and technique are excellent. He should be a squad player this season, maybe get Europa, capital one and f.a cup games.
