Hello abujaniv
If your interview is on a Friday, and you happened to be approved. When will your visa stamp be ready?

Hello akagson,

It usually takes 3 business days - so if approved on Friday, you can expect it to be ready by Wednesday, if there are no additional issues. That is only if you have paid your SEVIS fee and it is reflecting in our system (this usually takes about 1-2 weeks), so if you only paid your fee on Thursday, get approval on Friday, it may actually take 1-2 weeks for the visa to be ready. Therefore, plan ahead and pay your SEVIS early as soon as the appointment is scheduled.

I am Curious.. i intend to Pay 100% tuition before my interview would it be stated on my i 120 or would the school issue a separate documentation to that effect?

Hello pristine88 -

That is a question for your school.

Hello youngtigga -

That is a question for USCIS as they are responsible for those decisions. I will warn you that overstaying your tourist visa (or even staying for many months without being able to explain to the Consular Officer that may adjudicate your future cases) while you wait for a decision, does not exempt you from ineligibilities that would then hamper your future ability to study and visit in the U.S. The best plan would be to apply to a school, get admission, and complete the visa process here in Nigeria.

Hi Abujaniv,

I have a question for you please. I am an F1 PhD student currently studying in the US, and I plan to come to Nigeria to get married to my fiancee sometime close to the end of this year. My school does not explicitly require that I show a marriage certificate in order to get an I-20, neither do I see any such requirement on the official immigration website. Is it illegal to get an I-20 from my school to bring along when coming down to Nigeria for my wedding later this year? Even though my school does not require it, I'm also wonder if presenting an F2 I-20 which predates the date on the marriage certificate will raise some reg flags when she goes for the interview. Getting the I-20 before coming will be more convenient, as opposed to coming back to the US, applying for one, sending it down to Nigeria and then having her go to the embassy afterwards. Any suggestions you have will be well appreciated.

Thank you

Abuja NIV,

I'm 32 years old with a Higher National Diploma (HND) with a major in architectural technology. I recently gain admission to Northern Arizona State University to study Civil Engineering B.Sc. (4years) program.

I was told the United State recently change their visa issuance policy and that they do not issue more than 2 years generally.

Should I go ahead and apply? As I was told by friends that my chances is very slim, and I plan apply for my visa this July.

Please I want clarification and advice if it will be necessary for me to withdraw the application ASAP.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

Hello VO
I applied for an I-20 scholarship visa in January and my application was put on pending ever since then with no contact from the embassy. Fortunately I got another one but from a different school. I want to ask if I'm eligible to apply or a new visa or not.
Thanks

Hello youngtigga -

That is a decision for USCIS, but the process is the same - you will need to be accepted into a school first. Be careful that you do not overstay your visa while you wait for a response as you may then be ineligible due to misuse of the B1 visa.

Hello tp2324,

You will need to get an updated I20 for your new school. You can email the Consulate or Embassy and ask that a case note be added to your case, but you should bring both I20s with you to the POE to explain your situation to the CBP agent.

Hello xpress101,

All visas to the U.S. for Nigerian citizens are only valid for 2 years. That does not impact schooling as you can apply for a renewal.

Hello guys,
I will be at the embassy during the coming week for my f1 visa interview. I work with an IT firm which has agreed to a leave of absence for the duration of my masters in the US. I know i'm expected to come with supporting documents like bank statement etc for the interview; what supporting document should i ask my office to prepare for me as evidence of the fact that i work with em and they are approving a leave of absence for me?

Good day vo
On behalf of a friend,
He was at the embassy for interview for f1 visa but was denied, He has HND and applied for Bsc, after all the questioning the officer said he's not eligible . He can't really point out why. 1)Is doing Bsc after HND not realistic? Cos the woman was kind of skeptical why He will want to do bsc in US. 2) He has informed the school and they want to offer him masters degree cos that was his first option but the advisor discoraged him then. can He reapply for the visa with the masters before school resumes in September. Then how can He get the details of the reason for his refusal the from the embassy. Thank you.

Hello Abuja NIV
I transferred my sevis fee payment from old SEVIS ID to the new one hoping to reapply since my previous application is still on pending so I thought I mail the consular first of my intention to reapply for a new visa notifying them of pending application so I was given an appointment under "221G" to come on Tuesday. I emailed the SEVP to help revert the payment back to my old SEVIS ID but no response from them. Pls how do I go about it.
Thanks
