Hello fellow Nairalanders, what's your take on this issue? A friend of mine, not just a friend but like a brother got convicted for a minor crime as fighting and was sentenced to 6 months in jail. But before that he was already engaged to a lady he want's to marry, but as of now he had regained his freedom after serving out his sentence. This is how it all happens- A friend of his came to him to lend him 10k for a business he wants to do and promised to pay him back in 1 week time. After 1 week, the said friend was no where to be found. My friend tried his phones,it was switched off,he went to his apartment,it was locked and he contacted his siblings they said they don't know where he is,since they don't live with him. As luck will have it,after 3 months he saw this bad friend in another state in a cafe to be precise. When he confronted him about the money,he just flared up and a twinkling they start brawling which lead to the friend sustaining an injury in the stomach. People around held my friend and called the police while his bad friend was taken to the hospital by sympathizers. He spent three days in hell(police station) and since no one could bail him,he was charged to court and was sentenced to 6 months jail term after series of adjournment. While in the prison, his fiancee visited him twice plus my friend siblings. But during his incarceration his fiancee family brainwashed her not to marry him, that he is a convict and that will affect the marriage because society view ex-convicts as bad people that commit a crime. As I write my friend is heartbroken and depressed and he is contemplating on doing the unthinkable. I have adviced him to forget her,and he should change his status of a prisoner and that what happen can happen to anyone. But he doesn't agree with me,so Nairalanders whats your take and what other ways can I advise him to shelve his impending action? Thanks... |

Just tell him he's just about to go away for a very long time if u can't control himself. He needs to move on, He should think abt what he has been through and kindly move on. |

dachuchi7:op why don't u own up and accept the truth dat u are d person in question u want honest advice then be honest to the pple whom u are seeking the advise from.i find it diffcult to advise pple like ur type who tell lies be bold man and always come out clean anyone who says he hasn't sin before must be a joker even Jesus has also sinned but he was forgiven. Abeg guy I knw u are the person in question jst move on and I assure you will surely find a girl out there who will truly love u for who u are.if you must knw I have been in ur shoes before and I accept my fate and moved on and nw am the most happiest man in the world.Do you wanna knw why cos I found a better person who truly love me for who I am so try and do same and tink on hw to make money women are just a plus when u are in ur own world u would understand. |

I hope by unthinkable you don't mean suicide?,cause that will be very silly, he'll just have sympathizers crowd his funeral, his story posted on Nl with lots and lots of bashing and withing 6mnths his existence will be wiped out of ppls memory. the girl has made her decision, and from the situation I dnt see a future where the two got married, if your friend really served jail time in Nigeria, then he should have grown a thick skin to such situation. He should just free his mind,go out there, mingle and I promise he'll ask himself whats so special about the girl |

He should please forget about the lady and move on with his life, if possible he should change location, he will surely get the one God called his own and the lady might just be confused but if she love him she will come back to him, maybe he should give her sometime |

Re: She Said She Can't Marry An Ex-convict by keepingmum: 9:10am On Jul 18, 2016 |
i would never advise my sister/friend/relative to marry an ex convict. I am sure if your sister or god forbid, your mum comes and says shes getting married to an ex convict you would disagree so what is the problem? She isnt your wife YET, she is allowed to change her mind and with the type of attitude you have displayed on this thread, little wonder she took to her heels as soon as an opportunity presents itself - you lunge at someone in public without questions or decorum - you cause body harm - you dont even have money to make bail - You end up in prison - you believe her family dont have the right to advise a child whom they bore and suffered over? Anyone can have several spouses but you would only ever have ONE FAMILY. |
