Unlike Nigeria, South Africa decided it was cheaper to live in justice and equality than spend all the money meant for development on military hardware.
Most of South Africa is being uniformly developed, so the people are proud to be South Africans. Nigeria believes in oppression of parts of itself. Do it will keep spending its developmental money on weapons to oppress its own people.

Time to educate some folks here. The ONLY reason South Africa is more developed than the rest of black Africa is that she began her modern development long before any other African countries. Of all the black African nations under colonialism, South Africa was the ONLY country in which the colonialists RE -INVESTED export earnings in the local economy. Thus, South Africa's first universities were established as early as the 1880s by the colonialists. They built their first power stations in the 1890s. By contrast, in Nigeria etc, none of these things were built until the 1960s, after the colonialists left. The colonialists had settled SA in large numbers due to the weather etc. They saw it as a permanent settlement. So they governed responsibly. The rest of Africa they just looted. They exported resources from Nigeria, Ghana, Congo, Kenya, Zambia, Sierra Leone etc, and they reinvested next to nothing in those countries, for a hundred years plus. That's why they are so rich today. That was the reason for their colonialism in the first place. So SA has a 100 year headstart on the rest of Africa in terms of development, and in terms of experience in running a modern society. That is why we are all playing catch-up to them. But we are catching up, though it'll take some time. And they are not standing still either.

Thank you so much for this truth. The reason Nigerians run to SA and other countries is because they want to have all the work done before they get there. They are not willing to put the hard work in to build. They skip over the fact that these countries were built. Why were they not running there during apartheid? Why were they not running there when there were violent ANC marches?


No intention to build just to enjoy the labour of others. Those types of Nigerians really frustrate me sometimes.

To dispel a myth though, South Africans also run away from SA. Many here in the UK and even more in Australia where I used to live. When you ask them why they tell you their experience and why they felt the only option was to move their families out.

The develop that SA has had in the last 20yrs is out of this world. many african countries can learn from south africa. Before 1994, the development that was there was only for whites, black population had nothing, no water, no electricity, not sanitation, no work, uneducated. But since the black government tookover, it has pulled up over 34m blacks into middle class. As we speak today, blacks are the biggest consumers and drive the SA economy with their biggest buying power.

The black government took over and expanded the infrastructure to cater for everyone, i can say the infrastructure has been tripled. massive freeway expansion, over 2000 malls all over SA, new houses for poor, 90% of south africans have 24hr electricity supply, 86% water supply, 77% have sanitation, expansion of cities and towns across SA, there is a lot that most afrucan countries can learn from south africa.
